CENTURY 21

Jannay Murphy Hughes was the agent representing the buyers of my house (I had a listing agent not with Century 21). Jannay did everything possible to keep the buyers from proceeding with the sale. Jannay stood in our kitchen and with the buyers present told them (and us) everything she did not like about our house. She continually pushed them to look in Orangevale as she thought they'd get "more house," and she liked the area better (we weren't located in orangevale). the buyers told us they wanted to make an offer on this house right away, but Jannay pushed them to keep looking at houses. I don't understand why a real estate agent would intentionally push their buyers away from a property they want to buy becaue it doesn't meeet her (the agent's) personal tastes. I also think it is very unprofessional for an agent to point out all of the things she doesn't like about a house (it's on a well instead of public water, has laminate floors instead of real wood, 8 foot ceilings instead of 10 foot ceilings, small house, no sidewalk in front, chain link fence instead of all wood, no pool, kitchen in the front, etc.) in front of both the buyers and sellers. She should have had any conversations regarding her personal feelins or opinions with the buyers separately, and then let them make their own decisions based on their own personal tastes, needs and objectives. When she conducted the "agents visual inspection" of the property, she added opinions instead of keeping it objective. She insinuated that we had made electrical changes we never made, and she never asked us about it before committing it to writing. She stated that drywall tape was visible in one of the bedrooms when it was actually a heavy "knock-down" area that had settled when the popcorn ceiling had been removed and refinished. Fortunately the buyers were able to overlook her unprofessional nature. I have bought and sold many houses, and have never seen an agent so focused on her own agenda. She was so interested in "protecting the buyer's" that we almost refused to sign some of the documents to force them to back out of the contract. Our house would have sold, and we weren't in a hurry. It's a shame because the man she sent over a couple of times to cover for her was professional, courteous, and acted like one would expect a real estate professional to act (he walked around with the buyers, didn't share his personal opinions, and didn't point out his perceptions (positive or negative) in front of the sellers.
