There was a $150 minimum charge for Mr. Johnson to come out, that would be applied to repairs if we decided to proceed with his suggestion. He provided a quote within a week of his visit. We have not taken any action to complete the repair, to date.

We had a 8ft deep hole in the crawl space. It was allowing water to seap into our basement. We were concerned about the home structurally.and the foundation. We were also unsure what had caused the hole. David Johnson went under the home and inspected the damage. He showed us that the house and foundation was structurally sound and he made several recommendations. He told us what he suspected was the problem and how we could confirm what was happening in the crawlspace. He also told us we could not be sure until we had seen the hole in several different seasons and conditions to insure what was happening underground. (we were worried about an underground river) He advised several strategies. All of these were actually just about photographing the hole and watching rain and drain patterns and figuring out some plumbing and drainage issues. He advised us to wait and watch and make sure we knew what was happening before we did anything. We had had another contractor who had quoted 8000 worth of work, but we knew that company had no idea what was causing the hole, so we especially appreciated David's input. It is now several years later and David's original diagnosis was correct. We corrected the problem with a bit of pipe and about 50 dollars worth if work.
We also had David check our house to see what needed to be done to make it safer in earthquakes. .As we bought this house on auction, we had no idea that it was built to incredibly high standards and that all work to increase the safety during earthquakes was already completed. That earthquake retrofit cost $50 and was invaluable for piece of mind and was highly educational.
David was knowledgeable, professional, helpful and honest. My husband is an engineer and he when he questioned another contractor, they had no ideas about how to figure out what was happening under our home., but David has lists of ways we could figure it out ourselves with confidence. He was also reluctant do other work in our basement until the causes where known. That was also advise we should have listened too, I would highly recommend David Johnson.

He arrived on time and was very nice. He reassured my about my concerns about the foundation of the house and explained everything so I could understand. When he returned to do the work the second day he brought another worker with him. They both did a great job and cleaned up after themselves.

Dave arrived on time, was very personable and gave me a lot of good useful information on my current situation and what I could do to prevent further damage in the future. Would use again in the future to have work done.

He arrived on time, started and completed the work within a few hours, and reduced the quoted estimate because the work did not require as many hours as estimated.

The job went well except that David neglected to attach my front porch supports to the foundation wall. This is something that I had specifically asked him to do. When I brought it to his attention a week or so later, he came up and did the addtional work at no charge and without complaint. (He had charged me time and materials for the work that had been done.) I really appreciated it. It was quite a sacrafice for him since my cabin is about 1.5 hours from where he lives.

David was extremely knowledgeable and pleasant to work with! He went above and beyond to help us with our retrofit. Each house is different and poses different hurtles - we have an older home that needed a lot of work! David was right there every step of the way looking out for us to make sure that all the work was done correctly and up to code. We received quotes up to $55,000 for the same work - he had the best price and the best value. We knew after meeting with him that he knew what was needed and how to best go about it. The job came out looking great and passed the inspection. We're very happy with his hard work and feel very safe in our new home.

Mr. Johnson provided an estimate for our foundation repair for $100. He said that if we chose him to do the work, he would deduct the cost of the estimate from the final price. His explanations were clear and understandable. He emailed a written estimate in the form of a draft contractual agreement the same day. We thought the price quoted was very reasonable and we confirmed that we wanted him to do the work. He started right away and even worked on a Saturday. He finished on the next Monday. He was very prompt and professional. He was thorough in repairing our foundation and securing our house against earthquake damage.

Excellent service and very professional. Estimate detailed, thorough, and within range of other companies. Work performed at above level of estimate at no extra cost. Finished within stated time period. Workers very considerate and cleaned up at end of each day and did not leave a mess when job completely finished. I would highly recommend this company and I would use them again without hesitation.

David Johnson who specializes in retrofitting foundations and earthquake prep immediately returned my phone calls, set an appt and showed up on time. He crawled under the house gave us lots of information about how our house was built, what a good job that had already been done regarding earthquake protection, checked all the foundations and evaluated the existing problem. He checked out the whole house looking for problem areas. He gave us some valuable advise including taking photos and comparing them in another year. He showed us why our house was safe and said the best action was no action. We were very impressed with his integrity; he was very knowledgable and professional. We will use him again and highly recommend him.

David Johnson is the General Manager for the most respected seismic/foundation company in the state...Seismic Safety out of Pasadena. The USGS hired them to do their own retrofit project! Seismic Safety wasn't able to do our retrofit in Anaheim but David Johnson has his own company and was able to step in. When you get someone of David's caliber combined with his price lower than the competition, there really is no debate......David Johnson is the best value on the market. David impressed us as he found a few tricky weak spots in our foundation that most other competitors overlooked. He gave us a straightforward contract, set reasonable timelines, and communicated well throughout the project. He answered all our questions with knowledge and patience and explained it to make sure we understood. We checked his work, the city inspector checked, everything was perfect.

My wife and I purchased a 1900 historic house and required seismic foundation upgrades in order to conform with city requirements for historic property status. We were significantly less than excited about the idea of sinking thousands of dollars into a project that we would neither see nor enjoy. David Johnson was recommended to us by our real estate agent and, after taking several bids, we selected his proposal. He started work right on time and met all scheduled milestones or gave us significant advance warning when the schedule had to change. We had multiple contractors working on several parts of our house and his team worked well with all of the other contractors and was diligent in making sure that the work his team was doing happened in a way that did not interfere with the other contractors. He handled all of the surprises that come-up in remodeling a house this old. Of the general, plumbing, electrical, and framing contractors we had working on our house he was the only one to finish exactly on budget (most others nearly doubled their initial estimate) and on time (our plumber had to put us up in a hotel because they ran nearly a month behind schedule). He handled permitting with the city and his portion of the remodel was the only part that the city had no major concerns about. After our initial remodel, we decided to add more square footage to our house. Because of historic property restrictions, our only real option for the size we wanted to add was to turn our 5'6" 300 sqft dirt floor basement into 8' 600 sqft habitable space. David Johnson was the only one of the contractors we had on our initial project that we brought back to this remodel. As before, his proposal was very professional and the city approved his work despite being very hesitant to even consider a basement addition (we only know of one other coded basement addition in our city). David and his team worked very hard and proceeded on schedule. He handled some surprises that came-up (such as finding an active sewer line running at waist height diagonally through a large portion of the new space) and ensured that we always knew the status of the project and our options to deal with each new challenge. He treated the house as if it was his and always took extra steps to ensure that the structure would be safe at every step of construction (which was very comforting as we have had several earthquakes at various stages in this remodel). David Johnson and his team have been exceptionally professional, diligent, and courteous. I would recommend David Johnson for any foundation/seismic work without reservation.
