When I researched preschools in my area, I had a great talk with the owner on the phone.  She was super friendly and made me feel welcome.  We discussed the types of food served at the school, they don't serve juice, they offer milk or water.  Which was great, since my son loves milk.  After enrollment though, they said they aren't allowed to serve milk.  (???)
My son was also potty training at the time and when he would have an accident, they would "let him clean himself up".  He was 3 and a half at the time.  Not appropriate.  Then, they would bundle up the poop inside the underpants and send it home with us.  When I asked why they couldn't just roll the poop into the toilet, I was told that the teachers were supposed to put it in the toilet.  Even after that, they never did.
The morning schedule was from 7am to 12:30 ( what I was told and what the packet and sign out sheet also state) Yet when I would drop my son off anywhere from 7:15 to 7:30, I was given major attitude.  Things like "well there are no friends to play with because you came soooo early"  and " I know you have things you want to do, but maybe you should drop him off around 8am" were said.  I felt that my son and me were completely unwelcome.  Then when I inquired why they said see you at 12, when all the paper work says 12:30, they offered no explanation, just "said nope, its 12".  I later found out that they hadn't updated their paper work.  12 was fine, I just got attitude when I thought it was 12:30.
There was an incident where I came to pick up my son and I found the kids playing with a cat.  They were chasing it into the trees. I asked whose cat it was, and was told they didn't know, that it was probably feral.  I asked what they were planning on doing about it.  Keeping it away from the kids, having it caught?  I was told "What are we supposed to do?"  I gave the suggestions and was told it wasn't their problem.  Letting the kids play with a random cat is unsafe and unsanitary!!!
Here was one of the final straws: Every morning I had my son greet each child and teacher.  I was trying to teach good manners.  The owner sometimes opened and WOULD NOT acknowledge my son.  Who runs a preschool and is cranky with the kids?  She says the reason was that she wasn't a morning person......
Also, they advertise that they are working on getting accredited, they are not!  They advertise that they have no turnover of teachers, which I liked. I wanted my son to have the same teachers for a while.  During his 6 month stay there, they went through at least 5 new teachers, with no notification to the parents.
They also stopped serving lunch, which wasn't a big deal to me except that the price stayed the same.  And, they wouldn't provide time for my son to eat a lunch from home because they wanted to focus that time on schooling.  Yet, whenever I stopped by during that time, they kids were having free-play outside.  I asked to be able to send my son with something to eat, because going from 9am to 12 was too long for him to go without some food, and was denied.
There are a few other things that happened, but it would take forever to go through them.  Ultimately the things I talked about weren't a big deal, but add them all up and it just got frustrating.  The biggest problem was that I didn't feel that my son or I were welcome.
