The following year I decided to have a new roof installed;
Initial contact with company and estimate process went well
Job started on schedule
Crew stayed with job until completed
Clean up was good
Unexpected issues were easily resolved
Great communication with owner, estimator and project supervisor
Attention to detail
I am very happy with the work performed by Chico Roofing
* Discoloration in one of the product bundles. This is in the process of being addressed with the manufacture representative and may even resolve itself within 6 months.
* Overlooked an area wood which was replaced that needed to be primed so it did not pass inspection the first time.
* Company could have handled the issue of the priming the exposed wood more professionally, but it was readily completed by them when I asked.
*The crew was punctual and polite.
*The job site was left clean and debris free each day.
All old roofing material that was torn off the roof was hand carried and dumped into a truck with very little that needed to picked up off the ground.
Had a small problem with the minor roof repairs. Showed them where a small section of barge rafter along the eave needed to be replaced. They failed to fix the problem until I brought to it to their attention, plus they did not have the wood for the repair. Fortunately, I had an old 2x4 I gave them that worked, but was not ideal for the repair.
As is standard practice, they installed metal drip edge along the barge rafters. The drip edge was brown, while the rafter is painted white. The drip edge should have been white to match the rafter color. They said the color matched the shingle color. I let it go, but now I wish I would have had them use the right color.
The roofing materials (felt underlayment and shingles) they used were of good quality. They laid down the new felt and installed new flashing on one day and made sure the roof was dryed-in (waterproof felt would prevent leaks should it rain overnight). The shingles were laid the following day. This process all went well, but I discovered a problem several months later when cleaning leaves off the roof. Two of the vent flashings were not sealed around the vent pipes. I sealed them myself because rain was coming.
They used a another contractor to install the new seamless gutters. Very impressed with the quality of the gutters and work done.
Had major problems the attic insulation. I checked the attic after the insulation was blown in. The fiberglass insulation was not applied evenly with many high and low spots, and there were areas with virtually no insulation. Had to have them come back to fix the problems, but I'm still not happy with the final results. Chico Roofing installs attic insulation as a "convenience" to customers who must meet new energy/building code requirements. An Insulation Contractor would have done a much better job.
Am very pleased with the gutter guards (Gutter Dome brand) installed. Pricey, but they work great.
Finally, this was really disconcerting. A week or so after the job was done I received a notice from the roofing materials company where Chico Roofing had purchased the shingles. The notice said I was liable should Chico Roofing fail to pay for the materials I called the company, and indeed the materials were paid for. This may standard practice in the contracting business, but how was I to know this. The impression I got was that Chico Roofing was concerned I would not pay my bill. I should have been informed by Chico Roofing to expect to receive the notice.
I could not be more pleased. The roofing crew was professional, friendly, and punctual. They explained what they were doing. In the original bid, they included a section of dry rot repair on the small section of the roof that I had pointed out. They noticed dry rot at the base of my chimney as they were roofing, and for a reasonable additional cost, repaired that.
The solar panel array was designed for my house and thoughtfully addressed the shade trees on the property. The solar panel crew was just as focused and efficient. I am particularly pleased with the fact that if there is an issue with either the roof under the solar panels or the solar panels themselves, the same company covers it--and the company is local. And I have a warranty for both!
