Sherlock detectives seemed right to me for Ron’s approach to isolating the leak. Lol, I assumed from all his experiences he already knew the most likely source from the beginning. So I found his bedside manner better than Sherlock Holmes. The cause of our leak was quite rudimentary in the end. I still had my other concerns and I couldn’t pinpoint the leak myself even though it was right in front of me. It wasn’t critical. We are getting a plumber to do the easy fix along with other home improvements we already had in mind. I wish we had a more complex house or bigger problem to evaluate our experience against the one star reviewers. I guess the point is I thought Ron’s flat rate was appropriate. I prefer it to getting a plumber involved. Now those experiences have not been positive, one plumber doing the water heater came up with a story that he also saw a leak under the house. I ignored him, but it did concern me. So when I called Ron, I was concerned that was the leak or from the new plumbing tapped off our house going to the recently constructed ADU in back. So at his rate he saved me from potentially being swindled, pointlessly crawling under the house, and he verify our new piping was holding up. I learned a lot as well, so for even my simple request I had no complaints on the cost. Great experience

A man came out and spent about 1 hour locating the leak. He finally Said he found and marked the floor where it was. Curiously it was just beyond the wall separating the bathroom and living room. I found this odd but I was assured that’s where it was. Of course once our plumber came and removed the hardwood floors, cut the slab and dug a 3’x3’ we found no pipes there. He found the leak underneath the bathroom floor. What a joke.
Response from Sherlock Leak Detection
"Leak detection is not an exact science, unfortunately sometimes mistakes can happen. We always try to mark the location to cause the least amount of damage. Sorry about the miss-location, I wish you had contacted me so we could correct or advise."

Ron said it was hard to locate PVC leak. He finally identify a general area that he said we would find the leak if we dug the soil area where he marked. My son and I spent the whole day digging until we finally found the leaky PVC joint. It was over 3.5 foot away from the area he had located and identified as the leak should have been. I will not use him ever again.
Response from Sherlock Leak Detection
"Sir, 3.5 feet away in PVC line that cannot be traced is an ACCURATE leak detection. It would be nice if you can share in your review that no one else that inspected your property knew were the leak was. You could also share that it took so long to dig because you wanted to tunnel under the patio slab. We did a great service for you, and on the same day you requested. The fact it took a days work to dig the location has nothing to do with the locating service. Ron"

Fantastic. The only issue is that Angie's list has changed their listings and do not leak detection in their list. This makes no sense as this is what they do. When you look now all you get are a bunch of plumbers who are going to try and sell you a re-pipe.

The leak was not detected and thus not repaired.
Response from Sherlock Leak Detection
"Clarification: Irrigation leaks are sometimes impossible to locate because PVC pipes cannot be traced and they do not make noise when leaking like copper pipes do. Some companies do not even service irrigation leaks. Price quoted was $295-$395 for leak detection and $150 service call for unsuccessful leak detection. Client was aware of all this information prior to scheduling the appointment and calculated that it is in his best interest to invest the $150 service fee to try and locate the leak."

Within 45 minutes of arrival leak was discovered and we were able to make repairs that reduced our water bill by 60%!!! Well worth the investment and highly recommended. Think of a doctor with his stethoscope looking for a needle in a haystack.

Ron arrived promptly as promised. He was very thorough and very professional. He was also very patient and answered all my questions. This is the second time I have used him and had been very satisfied both times. I found his name initially thru Angies List.

The leak was repaired and restoration work commenced.  Communication was excellent among the various professionals who helped us deal with a plumbing emergency, just a week before the 4th of July holiday.

Ron was recommended to me by my trusted plumber, Tony’s Plumbing. They indicated that he is the only person they recommend for leak detection. He was able to accommodate me a day earlier given that he would be in the region which was very helpful. Ron arrived on-time, asked a few questions then began his investigation. He took his time and determined the leak was in the concrete floor in our add-on room. When the plumbers arrived they confirmed the leak’s source. After Ron left, I turned on the water and noticed it was sputtering out of the faucets and the water’s color was a bit murky which concerned me. When I called, he shared he had forgotten to run water through the pipes before leaving. This releases the gas used in the leak detection process. The water discoloration was from other debris in the pipes. He was responsive to my concerns and instructed me to run the water for a while and flush the toilets which eventually resolved the issues. It was a comfort to have found the root issue in about an hour. I recommend him and would call on his service again if needed (which I hope I won’t have to do).

Ron returned my call within 10 minutes and came over shortly thereafter. He was professional from the moment he arrived and introduced himself to the time he left. It took a while for him to narrow down the possible location of the leak and, fortunate for us, it was found under the carpeted area and NOT the hardwood :)  And, no, the floor wasn't warm and the carpet wasn't wet or, as I told Ron, we would have known where the leak was and I wouldn't have needed him :) We have a two story home so it was important to define where all the water lines were running from the water heater in the attached garage to the kitchen and to the three bathrooms, two of them upstairs. We heard this leak in a wall outside the Master Bath upstairs and thank heavens we didn't cut into the wall to look for it!. Good job Ron!  We will call Ron again in an instant if we suspect but can't find a leak and we will highly recommend him to our friends.

Fantastic job!!! Found the leak location in about 10 minutes using an IR camera and sonic leak detection instrumentation. Was extremely polite and courteous and explained all the steps taken as well as suggestions on how to fix the leak as well as professional plumber references if I did not want to fix/bypass the leak myself. You could not ask for more. Price was extremely reasonable.

I noticed water along the baseboard near my vanity in the master bathroom.  Ron came to inspect, and was able to actually pinpoint the
source of the leak which was on the other side of the house in my dining room (improperly capped pipe).  He was very thorough and professional, and has also recommended a plumber and restoration company to provide estimates to do the fix (Sherlock Leak Detectives find leaks, but are not a plumbing service).  It was worth having Ron come out, and use his expertise to diagnose the problem before calling in other services IMO.

Provider expertly used an array of methods to locate source of leak. I was thrilled to learn that repairing the leak would be a minor job instead of a major job requiring ripping out walls. Providers fee was worth every penny for resolution and peace of mind. Ron was very professional and courteous.

Called the provider after noticing water damage along our baseboards. They were quick to respond and scheduled leak detection service for the next day. Technician was very courteous and quickly diagnosed the issue as condensation coming from our HVAC system. $295 seems a little steep given the amount of time it took to detect the leak, but to be fair, it's a flat fee and the service call could have easily taken much longer. I was also expecting some sort of report detailing the findings. Did not receive one, but when I requested it the contractor was happy to provide a short description of results on the invoice. Overall, I was quite satisfied with the provider, though in the future I might chose one that also handles repairs and mold detection. Now I have to call someone else for that.
Response from Sherlock Leak Detection
"Thank you for your feedback, just wanted to clarify that a leak detection is a flat rate quoted and agreed when scheduling the appointment. The fee is to locate your leak, and I charge for my knowledge, experience and special equipment and not for amount of time spent, even if it takes 5 minutes (see review below dated 6.1.2015). Actually my service saved you a lot of money. A plumber would have charged you much more jack-hammering your slab looking for a non-existing slab leak, causing unnecessary damage to your flooring and not solving the problem. On the other hand, Instead of providing you with a report that there is no leak in the plumbing system and completing my scope of work, I relentlessly kept investigating until I found the problem to be caused by the air conditioning unit (although the air conditioning technician said there was nothing wrong with the unit). Because I do not do any repairs and not trying to sell you any product or service other that the one we agreed upon I will provide you with an un-biased opinion and solution. Hope this explains better what service I offer. I am happy you were satisfied with my service. Thx, Ron"
