Euro Tech Kitchens

Not a very good experience with euro tech. The first Mike, the sales person, is very sociable and good at sales. You never see him again once the project starts. The other Mike who is the general contractor and is rarely onsite, even when there are problems. And don't ever expect him on a Friday - he golfs Friday's. No exceptions . If you challenge him on a point, he quickly gets mean. And treated Yvonne at the front desk quite poorly as well. Their main worker, Tony, did the bare minimum to install things and we often had to ask him to redo things because they weren't level, or evenly spaced (kind of the minimum you would expect). They made beautiful cabinets in their workshop. It's the only really good thing of the whole project. And they scratched them as they dragged the fridge through for install. They tried refinishing them but subtle scratches are still their. Ididnt have the patience to fight with them about getting the scratches all the way out, I was so ready to have them out of my house. We've been told by other contractors things were done with poor but functional quality. They installed the handle on our refrigerator wrong and it promptly broke off within 2 weeks of them finishing. They did order us a new one and reinstalled again with the same wrong screw. Broke again. We then spent an additional $800 (with another contractor we trusted) to reframe the whole cabinet style fridge door and replace the ruined wood and handle. I could go on.

We chose to use them because of my coworker's recommendation.  It turned out to be a very unpleasant experience.  Euro Tech Kitchens is run by two partners - Mike Krauss and Mike Rohn.   Mike Krauss does sales.  Mike Rohn does all the design and engineering.   The problem started with Mike K.  First, the contract he typed up was very brief and intentionally to be vague.   As soon as I signed the contract, he changed his interpretation of the contract, including the items in the work and pay schedules.  He denied the items he verbally promised to do.  When arguing, he would say "I've been doing this way for 25 years", "We are contractors. We don't finance your job", and "That's good for us".   Basically, he is a crook. 
Mike Rohn is better.  He is honest and does good design work.  But he does not come over to check the jobs that his workers or subcontractors do.  He only came over a couple of times when we found problems and notified him.  I emailed him many times with lists of problematic items.  He never replied my email or call.  He just sent one of his workers over to check and fix.  The biggest mess-up was the cabinet painting.  Somehow, they hired an inexperienced lousy painting subcontractor.  They used spray paint and sprayed not only the cabinet but also the sliders, laminated drawers, etc., and also tainted our windows and screens.    Although Euro Tech cleaned up the over-sprayed areas, I don't believe those were restored to the original conditions.  Their workers are, in general, doing good jobs but not superior.   There were other unsatisfactory items during the two months period.   They were just too many to elaborate right now.  If I have time, I'll come back and add them.

Overall job was done well and no major changes or add on costs were required.

It was good working with them. I liked that the workers were on time and the quality of the work they performed was good. I didn't like that there was poor communication and non-specific details of the work that was to be performed. There were several things that we thought would be included and they ended up not being, this upped the over all cost. If you plan on using their service come to them with a design ready because they do not always have enough time to do a design with you without rushing you through it.

Overall I'd say they did a good job. There's poor communication within the company between the guy who pitches the company and closes deals and the guy who comes in and measures the job and the guy who actually does the work. I highly recommend getting every detail in writing (be very stubborn here and don't let them wear you down no matter what), and supervising them every step of the way if you want to be happy with the end result. In general, that rule applies to every contractor, the question is, how willing are you to be a nudge about every detail. I would hire them again because I now know how to work with them.

MIKE WAS A VERY CLEAN WORKER. HE AND HIS GUYS WERE FAITHFUL TO CLEAN UP ALL THE TORN OUT MESS, AND KEPT EVERYTHING COVERED INSIDE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE.
