The initial job started out okay. The painter and crew arrived on time and began work when they said they would. They began by pressure washing the decks and sanding the interior and exterior of the doors. The initial quote was to use oil paint on the doors, but the painter said that the fog would not allow it to dry, so he used latex instead. He said that the sanding job they had performed would be sufficient to allow the latex to adhere properly to the doors. The painting progressed, and we noticed that it wasn't particularly smooth, with a lot of brush strokes showing in the paint. As the end of the job came near, we noticed more problems with the job, like poorly scraped windows in the french doors, and the tops of interior trim not being painted. There was a lot of drips on the thresholds, etc, and a center aluminum strip between the french doors that was painted with latex had quickly began to peel. We also found a patch of one of the decks not painted at all, and some mold and smoke residue that was quoted to be painted wasn't done at all, along with one interior door not painted as quoted. When the painter was called on these issues, he did come back and strip most of the aluminum strips, leaving one on the main french door not stripped. There are still several spots that need to be either scraped or touched up, but we paid the painter already, and the check cleared the same day, so we don't expect to be able to get him back any time soon. We are just hoping that the paint stays stuck, we have already found a couple of bubbles on the interior trim that we will have to touch up. It seems like it should be obvious that the painter will clean up well, and do the work quoted.
