1/05/2015 ? I purchased vinyl flooring from Carpet Empire in Cathedral City, CA. Purchase contract signed for $2,225.00. Deposit of $1,100.00 paid. Flooring to be installed in kitchen, dining room and bonus room (laundry and office area).
1/14/2015 (approximate date) ? I received a phone from the salesman telling me the cost would be an additional $465.00 which I agreed to.
1/21/2015 ? Vinyl flooring installed over existing vinyl floor. Installation took approximately 8 hours.
? Originally 1 installer and 1 assistant appeared to install new flooring.
? Gradually 5 others appeared to ?assist?. It appeared that these additional ?helpers? were friends of the 1st assistant. They were loud, laughing in the street, and exhibited extremely unprofessional behavior and did not appear to be concentrating on the job at hand. Several neighbors commented on the noise.
? The work appeared to be satisfactory.
Early July ? I noticed 5 long strips of raised flooring flowing from one side of the cabinetry to the other in both the kitchen and the bonus room.
During this period my husband became terminally ill; passing away on July 19th which delayed my response to the flooring issues.
July 23rd or 24th ? I called Carpet Empire and spoke to Mike Thomlinson or Chip (have spoken to both of these people) and told them of the problem. They said they would send the installer out to look at the floor.
1 week later ? The installer inspected the floor and told me it could be fixed.
A few days later ? Two men appeared and wanted to cut out 2 foot squares where each section of raised flooring existed and patch/glue it back in. I rejected this proposal to solve the problem: it would have resulted in 5 large patches (20 additional seams) within the flooring; there was no guarantee the patches would have been properly fit; seams create opportunity for later flooring movement, dirt catching and unsightly appearance. While the men were at my house, I phoned Carpet Empire and told them their proposed solution was not acceptable.
Subsequently, I have made many phone calls to Carpet Empire. Each time they assured me they had ordered the new flooring and were ready to install once they talked with the owner. During one of these calls I was informed that Carpet Empire would not be responsible if the sub-flooring was damaged upon removal of their first installation. I expressed disagreement. There has been no installation as of this date.
