Contacted Hansen Landscaping to do our front yard. We met with Steve and shared our design thoughts. Steve presented us with a drawing based on what we were looking for. A drawing is one thing but the finished project is another. We never in our wildest dreams could have imagined how beautiful our yard looks now. To us a simple design of a dry creek, artificial lawn and some plants was what we had in mind. Steve's design took our plan to a much higher level. The dry creek is a show stopper. The team sent to do the work were awesome. It took them 6 business days to complete. They were at our home on time every morning and made sure everything was cleaned up before they left at the end of the day. Any questions or concerns I had were always listened to and addressed. Steve Hansen made everything work seamlessly from first meeting him at his showroom to laying out the timeline to working with Jack on selecting the right plants and then sending us Hugo, Raoul and Martin who worked so hard and made me laugh everyday. We couldn't be happier and choosing Hansen was the BEST DECISION EVER!!

Hansen is overall and fantastic contractor to work with. They have a very clear process that guides you through from design to build to handoff back to us, their work is stellar, their crews are punctual and professional. We did both back and front yard and the designer encouraged us to dream big with the overall design, but was able to piece it out in such a way that we could build pieces and save some for later. Even though we only did parts of the overall design, I'm still left with the nicest yards of anyone I know.

I used the overall fair rating because we actually did not have work performed and I could not rate price and quality. However, the consultation went very well and many ideas were presented. Unfortunately the day after our interview, the service provider emailed to let us know he would not be able to help us after all. We had paid for the consultation, but it was refunded. The consultation appointment was made and started on time. The provider seemed "to get" what we were looking for. We were disappointed we were not able to use their services.

Hansen Landscape Contractor transformed the front and rear yards of my home with new landscaping that marks a dramatic departure and stunning improvement when compared to the ordinary and forgettable landscaping that no longer surrounds my home. Steve Hansen is the owner and visionary of this highly regarded and fully credentialed landscaping company in Castro Valley. He brings more than 30 years of landscaping experience and expertise to the table for his clients. Collaborating with Steve during the all-important design phase was enjoyable and educational. I found it rewarding to work with Steve and every member of his landscaping team, including Peter (landscaping blueprints) and Jack (project manager). Jack is masterful at managing several Hansen landscaping crews and numerous ongoing projects while maximizing productivity every workday. I reserve special praise for Steve’s landscapers because they are the men who turned my landscaping vision into reality. Led by Hugo and Raul, all of the workers assigned to my home worked extremely hard. These outstanding landscapers overcame every challenge, including soil conditions that mimicked reinforced concrete and weather that was oppressively hot, with utmost professionalism. Moreover, Hansen Landscape Contractor is NOT a landscaping company that suddenly disappears and abandons its clients when the last plant has been planted. Hansen considers its major projects to be long-term investments. Louis inspects the new landscaping of my home with consistent regularity to ensure the continued health and optimal growth of every new tree and plant. I am completely satisfied with all of the work done for me by Hansen Landscape Contractor, and I endorse this company without any reservations.

I did a project with them. It was in the summer. It was for landscaping.

Everything they did was great although the weather delayed the finish product for a few weeks. it looks great, using drip lines, decorative rock and bark. New trees and shrubs will enhance the yard which makes it appear to have more depth. Great show place in Castro Valley to get many ideas for landscaping.

It was fabulous. Louis was the designer and the project manager. The workers were polite and courteous and cleaned up after themselves after each days work. The job was done in a timely manner. They are going to maintain the yard.

They are excellent! I have the same two guys that come out every time so they know exactly what I want and know how my yard works. They make our yard look awesome every time! I would definitely recommend them!

Andy and Roberto arrived ready to work, answered all questions and responded to my concerns in a satisfactory manner. Afterwards, they cleaned up completely. They were friendly and had a pleasant demeanour all the time they were at my home. I am satisfied with the completed job. I recommend Andy and Roberto of Hansen Landscape Contractor to anyone looking for diligent, hard working yard work.

Louis Sieggel was the main contact and coordinator for the project and he was perfect. Very professional, courteous, and friendly without all of the usual "fake friendly" schtuff. He and all of the crew (Jeff and José) were simply down to earth. They answered every question without fail. And explained things very clearly. We always knew where we stood with the project. They know their business extremely well, including the potential hazards. The install took two days and went very smoothly. They removed the old metal sprinkler system as they went along installing the new PVC one. They were very neat and clean and you would never know anyone had been there at all by the end of the project. It looks and works perfectly and we are extremely happy. Working with really good contractors has been so rare for us and Hansen made it worth every penny. No frustration and no wrangling over silly things. They took care of any concerns immediately. We cannot say enough good things about them and highly recommend them.

It went extremely smoothly.  After Steve and Peter came up with some really great ideas and helped us finalize the landscaping plans, they sent over a crew to tidy up the existing lawn areas in the interim before the project could start. Once the project started, Jack supervised the job and kept us informed of what was going on at all times.  There were a few days where schedules changed, but since we weren't on a tight timeline, it all worked out fine.  Jack kept in contact and let us know what to expect each week as far as scheduling, the supplies that would be delivered and where they would be stored, and how big the crews would be.  The crews were great and really knew what they were doing.  They showed up promptly each day they were scheduled, and they left the area neat and tidy every time. Hugo patiently answered all of my questions during the project as well.
Our new yard looks *great*!  The neighbors are happy, and friends and family have said how impressed they are with the quality of the workmanship.  The new trees and plants are doing well and the backyard is a great place to spend time.  I would recommend Hansen Landscaping to anyone who needs landscaping services. They weren't the cheapest option for us, but the quality of the landscape design and installation, and the excellent communication throughout the process was worth it.

With the recent drought situation in California my husband and I chose to stop watering our front yard lawn and had also recently had a large over grown tree removed that could have possibly fallen onto our home and our neighbor's in a severe winter storm. As result, the yard was barren and in dire need of new landscaping for many months. We knew we wanted a drought tolerant landscape but didn't know how to start the design or what type of plantings would be best. We checked with several sources on line and after visiting Hansen's show yard in Castro Valley we chose Hansen Landscape Contractors. We met with the owner, Steve Hansen, who showed us around their large show yard to give us an idea of the many options available to us--different types of rock, pavers, concrete, plants, ponds, waterfalls, etc. Their show yard is beautiful. Once we decided to use Hansen, we were contacted by one of the project managers/designers (Louis Siegel) to get us started on the project and who also finalized the project with us. Louis met with us to get a general idea of what we wanted. We were informed he would draw up a design and informed us of the cost involved up front. He gave us a timeframe of when to expect it and how he would send it. Once we received it and reviewed it, we discussed it with the project manager. The design was broken down by price so we were able to approve or reject anything we didn't want so that we could stay within our budget. Communications were done by email and by phone for the most part after the initial meeting and found Louis to be very responsive to our calls. We were given timeframes of all the activities that needed to occur and given choices of the products so that it was what we wanted. The project stayed on track; we were always informed in advance of what to expect. The project manager was on site when it started, check in periodically as the project was progressing and did a final walk through. After the landscaping was completed the project manager did a 1 week, 2 week, 1 month, and a final check up at 2 months on the health of the plants. We found Louis and all of the other workers to be very professional. I highly recommend Hansen Landscape Contractors.

After contacting Hansen Landscape, we were invited to visit their show yard by the owner Steve.  We explained we wanted to remove our sod and go with a drought tolerant design without it looking barren.  Unlike other designers we had met with who only had photo albums, Steve's property had unique vignettes of designs for us to walk through - which was really nice.  While walking through he explained each concept in detail. We then sat together and further hashed out details.   We REALLY liked Steve's energy.  What is abundantly clear is that, although this is his business, it really is his passion.  And it shows in his work.  Several days later, we received our design.  A few more tweaks and we were happy.  
His team is very professional.  At each step, from tear out, to installation, they wanted to ensure we were happy.  Excellent customer service.  At no point did we feel as though we were rushed through to get on to the next project.  Post installation appt and integrated yard service to ensure things get off to a good start is a very nice touch.  Did I mention customer service?  
When we met with Steve, we said we wanted something that would bring us pleasure as we drove home each day.  His design and installation didn't disappoint.

Went to landscapers office to see projects that had done and learn of capabilities. Foremen cam to my property and provided estimate for project.
Project went as planned.. I signed a contract provided deposit and work was done about 4 weeks later.
Foreman (Louis) followed up with an email and call. I stated that I had expected more plantings on the slope. He came back and added more plants.

The work that Hansen Landscape did on my project far exceeded my expectations. My comments for each effort as delineated above are as follows:

1. Design and contract agreement ? Working with Steve to create my design was fun and very effective in creating something that was perfect for us. Steve gave me ideas, he accepted my ideas, and created a really beautiful design. As soon as I saw the design I knew it was perfect for us. However, there is one down side to using Hansen to do the actual work (as well as the design) - this company is expensive. However, I?m a very picky detail-oriented client, so my husband and I decided that the promise of getting exactly what I wanted was worth paying a little extra. Now that the project is complete, we know we made the right decision going with Hansen Landscape. There is not one thing that isn?t exactly as I wanted.

2. Project Management ? Jack stayed on top of everything. He and I texted back and forth constantly, so I was always aware of exactly what was going on, and any issues that arose were addressed immediately. As a retired engineer used to tracking details, Jack?s willingness to keep me completely informed of progress and decisions was exactly what I wanted. The biggest issue Jack helped me with was when I changed my mind mid-project deciding to go with artificial turf instead of sod. He took care of everything, the change order, the schedule, and helping me decide on which turf to use.

3. Hardscape -- Pedro and his team worked in my front yard for 7 days (some full days and some half days). They did a really beautiful job on the concrete and flagstone that they laid for me. I can't say enough for the quality of work and the ease of working with Pedro and his team. On the day of the concrete pour with a zillion things going on, Pedro even remembered to tell me when I could have my grandsons put their handprints into a piece of the new concrete, something that was really important to me.

Landscape -- Steve?s landscape team worked in my front yard for 9 days (again some full and some half days).  They were accommodating and professional throughout the project creating the beautiful yard that I?ve wanted for years. It became very clear to me that the 3 men who were there almost every day (Hugo, Raul, and Austin) took great pride in their work and wanted nothing more than for me to thrilled with the results. They did not disappoint.

1. Follow-up ? Louis appeared within a couple days of project end to ensure we understood the lighting and irrigation systems and to check on the plants. He?s been by a few times since to ensure everything is still doing well. We did have one small issue with the turf that he made sure was addressed quickly and efficiently.

   

Bottom line is that I highly recommend Hansen Landscape.  I asked for and got exactly what I wanted, a beautiful drought tolerant landscape. My neighbors, friends, and family love the landscape as much as I do. I?m a happy camper.

Hansen Landscape is very professional, and very good at what they do.  The owner met with us to go over our wants for the space, and later followed up with a site visit, and produced a nice detailed plan, taking into account our wants for the space.  They pay attention to doing the work at the highest level of quality.  The worked on the project when promised, and completed in a reasonable time frame.  They were not the lowest quote we received, but we felt they would do a high quality job, and were confident we wouldn't regret our decision.  I would recommend Hansen Landscape, if you want the very best quality and workmanship.

There is a leak in the pond causing water to run off through the drain into the front yard.  Hansen's did some adjustment to my skimmer to help control the fill valve.  Their adjustment has caused more water to run off through a 2nd drain into the front yard.  To fix the problem, Hansen's refunded all my money and decided not to help.
