He was ridiculous. I had called him to get a quote and I walked away from the quote, because he was coming up with all kinds of charges above and beyond what was being advertised on your site. I said no thank you, it's too expensive and I walked away from it. He called me back and then he said he would do it for a little bit above what was advertised on your site. Then what happened was his girl called me back and asked me if the area he was going to lay the sod on had seven hours of daylight. Are you serious? I said I don't know I've never calculated the sun on my north side of my house. I didn't even know how to answer it, it was so stupid. I would never ever call him back again. Originally on your site it was for $500. He was saying, well there are dump fees and it's going to cost me to go to the trash, or wherever they dispose of it and he says the fees are higher now. I said I don't need it. It was stupid. It was just idiotic. I found my own gardener and I had him do it.
Description of Work: I did have interaction with them. He gave a quote for just laying sod and fertilizing the ground.

Update: 07-23-2011: my grass is still alive!!!! Am sooo happy even without me having green thumbs!!! OK here is the key: for sod you need a good prepping of the soil and a good irrigation system and have it leveled, so you have no puddles of water sitting. And don't drive a truck ( like me- blond!!!) over it specially not if its wet!!! You will have to be patient with driving over it, walking once in a while is ok, but let the roots settle first.. That is a MUST, so that the grass will survive. I actually at first tried to not water on the too hot parts of the day, but actually it seems to help the grass when you do water it. I am so excited, I will do the first cut on my almost 5000 square foot of grass. Its beautiful, has once in a while lighter spots and it looks in certain spots like it would die( maybe 4 or 5 tiles from the whole 5000 square footage, so that's a very good quality). So when you see a lighter spot, water right away. Get a rainbird ( Walmart the once you stick in the ground for about 4$ are idiot proof and work very well, to catch spots that need little extra TLC). I love the fact that the baby grass changed immediately the whole environment. The air is more oxygenated( since its a life plant) and cools the whole area and its just luscious and we absolute love it. The sprinklers - get somebody who knows what they are doing, my dude a honest hardworking man, did not do sprinklers quite enough, we had to learn online how to adjust the rainbird 5000...so get a pro, it's worth it, it also can safe you the overexpense of over engineering a sprinkler system.....overall, i can honestly only recommend SUPERIOR SOD, it was great doing business with them, they will take care of you, and I feel good that I found them. Oh and yes- the baby grass can come from different sod farms. I bought the first half pallet in my truck home it was grown in corona, the shipment ( pallets I got were from superior sod but in castaic. Both grasses are beautiful. It was the fescue,( which is rather thick and resists walking on driving on and animal feel( dogs)), the soil component in corona is thicker, and maybe 5 tiles were rippt. The tiles from castaic were ALL intact and beautiful.Maybe 5 squares from the 5000 square feet did not come out, so that's tolerable. For the watering timer i choose the ORBIT Easy set logic - 6 stations all weather-Model 57896 HOME DEPOT approx 40 or so $( its also blonde proof and easy to program, you have 3 settings(A B and C and can program all of those settings for up to 6 stations..., and they will go in sequence. And for dogowners: some grass will have small mushrooms comming out- they are very poisenous, don'r let your dogs eat them. But that's just a word of consciousness. And according to the sod company it depends on the watering times: you should not water over night so that the mushrooms will not grow. Overall the grass is beautiful and its the probably best thing we have done for our lungs...and if you have a puddle of water somewhere ( i have 2 spots, an easy way to get rid of that is supposedly to just over time sprinkle just a lil bit of sand over so the grass can root through.... that I have not tried yet, but am about to...hope that review helps someone...
Description of Work: Responsible business owners have warranty for 1 year on their sod (Keep all receipts) wonderful product, fresh thick grass, delivery guys are on time, the company will notify you about delivery time, Usually you have to place order before noon on the day before you want the delivery, then the company will call you around 1500 or so hours with estimated delivery time. It was painfree to do business with them, compared to other sod companies who have shady tactics and even worse products. I am really happy with my product. If there should be a problem they can send an inspector out and if the grass was bad they will most likely replace it free of cost to you.But that depends from case to case. It is very important to have a sprinkler system in place and the ground mulched and rotor tilled and wet from sprinklers ( or hose) Thats the MUST when you get sod. Otherwise the roots cannot catch. then you also should stage the pallets in the shade and get on the installation right away.Maybe pre rotortill and then let it sit, if the ground is too soft they cannot enter with the forklift and stage the pallets where you want them. The forklift is wider then a car, you should have room made for it. If you have to wait for your installer you can wet the pallets down a little bit, but be carful do not do this in burning sun. Best time for installation of the sod is early mornings, sod is a living plant a perishable. Once the sod is put down and buttoned up properly water it right away. We are so far very happy with the sod. It changes the air quality right away and the relative humidity(rh) goes up. It makes a building block to a backyard paradise. I had bad experience with another sod company. Please be advised that you can refuse the delivery. Read the paper before you sign. All of it. Check the sod before you sign. And don't let anybody play on your good heart to do them a favor. You are the customer and paying for their product. You need to check the sod before they come on your property and if you can before they unload it. It should be green and have some moisture wicked in between the layers and folds. The roots should not be too thin and intact (not cut). If you are in doubt research sod laying on the internet. There are good clips on you tube how to lay sod. So far my sod project is nice. And for the installation of sprinklers make sure you get somebody who is bonded licensed and insured and a contractor who knows what they are doing. It might be a necessity to get a pressure regulator for your sprinkler system to avoid water hammering. You do nit want to have your floor in the house torn apart because of a broken waterline..... so that was just my experience. Hope it helps somebody. Good luck.
