Bertha's Housecleaning

The three women arrived a minute or two before 8:00 AM. They started upstairs and worked their way down. They worked quietly and efficiently. Overall they were thorough and easy to work with. There were a few details that were overlooked and when I showed them to Bertha, she responded immediately. The wood bed frame has a somewhat intricate design and is a challenge to dust. Both the headboard and footboard had to be redone. When one of the women cleaned the overhead fan, she stood on the bedspread with her shoes still on her feet. I asked her to use a ladder or to take off her shoes. The cabinet doors have hard to clean corners and several had to be redone. The wood bannister had not been cleaned in years. The dirt was pushed into the grain. That took a brush and hard work to get reasonably clean. The job was more difficult than Bertha realized when she gave me her estimate. She later told me that she thought the job would take about 5 hours. In fact, the three women were there for 7 hours. The house really sparkles now and I am pleased. UPDATE: She worked very hard, but it turns out that the cleaning products she used were not very effective. The tiles in the shower still had a lot of soap scum on them.
