Paul (with Home To-Do's) has been my handyman for years at home and at my store. So when I moved the location of my retail store, I called Paul. He initially helped get the old store ready by moving a wall, installing lights, and hooking up phones. He also set up a neat lighting display for the front display window and overhauled the toilet. Now the old store needed the walls touched up and painted so I could get my security deposit back. Not only did I get the deposit back from my landlord, but they were so delighted to have a tenant that left a store in mint condition and ready for them to turn around. The new location needed a new counter put in, spot lights installed, a utility sink installed in the bathroom, shelving installed, a ceiling fan repaired, and signage put up. Paul did it all, and worked evenings and weekends to help accomodate my need to open for business and start making sales. He took the store signage from the old store and made a new backer board for the logo and installed it out front...looks like it belongs there (great design and color choice by Paul). He also hooked up the phone and data lines. He noticed that the water heater was very old and encouraged me to have the landlord replace it, which he did. He also noticed a leak coming from the ceiling in the bathroom, from the upstairs unit. I notified the landlord, who, after fixing the leaky toilet upstairs (another store), just wanted to patch the ceiling. Paul politely worked with the landlord to make sure they not only removed the drywall, but also the clapboards (I think that's what their called...it's an old house turned into retail space). He made sure they removed all materials that may have been contaminated. Then he scrubbed, sprayed disinfectant and fungicides on the rafters and bottom of floor above, put a hepa air-scrubber in the bathroom, and dried the area out. Then he gave the landlord the go-ahead to drywall and paint the ceiling. Paul was obviously concerned for my health and safety. The landlord was thankful for the advice Paul gave him and his worker, who sincerely wanted to do the right thing, they just didn't know how to approach the repair. Paul had my back! Like I said earlier, Paul has done work at my home as well over the years. He doesn't try to sell me things I don't need and gives honest advice. I know what I'm paying because his hours are clearly itemized, and he doesn't mark-up things he buys at Home Depot (gives me the receipts, too). He might not be the cheapest, but I never have to have him come back to redo something. It's always done right the first time. He's also one of the few service people left who actually follows up with you to make sure things are working and that I'm satisfied.
