hardwood floor

We were introduced to Andy by a contractor we were planning to use on our home remodel. We ultimately did not use that particular contractor, but decided to engage Andy to refinish the wood floors on a property we had recently acquired. Admittedly, the house was a major fixer and the original wood flooring had some termite damage and some areas were in rough shape. We asked Andy to come out and look at the flooring two different times, once when we were deciding which general contractor to use and once at the start of our renovation project. At that time many areas of the flooring were still covered by carpeting or vinyl tile so were not visible. After Andy had been out to see the project and gave us a quote, we also decided to remove two walls in the living room to open it up. This information was communicated by email to Andy and the quote he initially gave us was adjusted for this information. This occured in early February 2012. As the renovation work was going to take about 4 months, we tentatively agreed on timing for the floor refinishing and agreed to keep him informed of our progress. In early April, I let Andy know that the rennovation was progressing, but few weeks behind schedule. He confirmed that this was not a problem and sent me an invoice for the work to be performed, which I signed and sent back to him so that he could schedule the work. His email message to me at that time stated, "Attached is the invoice for the hardwood floor re finishing! When you are ready please sign it and send it back so we can schedule the work. As I said on the phone I can go out to the job a few weeks prior to the start of the re finish(and after demo of kitchen vinyl-office wall) and we can discuss finish options. I understand that the work will around the beginning of the month of May. Let me know if you have any more questions! Thank you!" All seemed well and good. In early May, I contacted Andy and let him know it looked like we would be ready for him to start the flooring shortly and made an appointment for him to come out and look at the work. He indicated that he was very busy and it would be difficult to schedule time. However, we did agree upon a time. On the appointed day, I got a phone call from Andy saying he was already at the job site, had looked at it and already spoken to the general contractor. Due to a supposed misunderstanding of the agreed upon time this was several hours earlier than I had anticipated. I told him it would take me just 20 mins. to get there and would he please wait for me. He was unable to do that. The next day I received the following email from Andy: "After I saw the construction progress and the unexpected changes that had occurred with the existing flooring I don't feel comfortable to do work for you. I also, feel that I should have been informed about the major changes(entire floor under old VCT tile is termite damaged, 2 large areas beside the original ones needs to be laced in, termite damage in bedrooms). I wish all the best to you! Andy Kovacs" Needless to say, I was totally taken aback. We had been nothing but upfront with Andy. His backing out at the last minute, put several other project deadlines at risk and we had to scramble at the last minute to come up with an alternate solution after he walked out on us. Although he came highly recommended, he did not act in a professional manner and we would not recommend his services.
Description of Work: Actually, we never used Andy Kovacs (Akovash), because he left us high and dry, at the last minute.
