The painter Jane recommended was prompt, did an excellent job and stuck to the original quote. He was very professional and I would use his services and the Handyman Co-op again.

Came on time.  did a ok caulk job, heavy use of caulk.  does the seal but could be tighter.  first worker left a scratch like mark from his belt buckle on the tub itself.  panic.  a more experienced worker came out and was able to clean and buff out the mark, showing no damage.  unlikely to use them again because of uncertain skills of first worker.
Response from Handyman Co-Op
"With all due respect, the dates on this review are totally wrong. This job was performed Nov.21 of 2006. Our service and providers have greatly improved since then. We endeavor to take seriously comments from clients and will continue to provide professional, reliable workmanship. Jane Story, Owner, Handyman Co-op"

We were prepping a house for sale. Jane was able to help with small and large jobs. A few of her contractors were priced a bit high, but for the most part everything was great. Communication was great, especially since we were using multiple contractors and scheduling different work. I would recommend Handyman and would use them again.

They respond quickly. They come and give you an estimate and they tell you what it is that's going to be done. The people who work for the Co-Op have been with them for a long time and they were familiar with the house and with us so that worked out really well.

Handyman Co-op was recommended to me by my neighbor (she has used them on a number of occasions) and when I needed shelving and cabinets installed in my garage, I decided to call them. The lady who answered the phone is the owner and she had a carpenter call me right away. The carpenter made arrangements to fit into my limited schedule. He came to my house that same evening for the estimate and did the installation the following Monday, which was the only day I had available.
The carpenter went to home depot, got me some prices and provided me with a detailed email about the costs of each option. Since I was doing shelving and cabinets in the garage, I certainly didn't want to spend a ton of money. When I got the cost, I was a little shocked. But, I was provided with the receipt for the materials and of the $650 that I spent total, the materials were about $500. Personally, I am not sure a "carpenter" was needed for this job, but he did a good job and didn't go over the time.
The reason that I gave this review a "B" was more for the carpenter than the service. I asked him if he would come back and install a wardrobe cabinet (it was in my initial quote but I chose to not go with it due to cost) because I liked the other cabinets and could really use it. He said he would. He picked up the cabinet from Home Depot and was going to install it at my house. When he arrived and took it out of the box it was partially damaged on the door. He asked if I wanted him to install it anyway. I said no. He said he would go back and get another but would also check out the prices to see how much it would be if he built one. After he left that afternoon with the damaged wardrobe cabinet...I never heard from him again.
The service was good. The quality of the work was good. But, it was unprofessional of the carpenter to not call back. It was right before the Thanksgiving holiday and things got busy for most people, so I never pursued it further.

This is a coop, so your experience might vary with the individual handyman. The person who answered the phone was prompt in sending out a plumber, but later when I needed assistance, she was unavailable. The plumber's name was John. Unfortunately, I had to go to work and was handling this by phone from work. John was going to assess the situation and get back to me. He left me a message saying that he was going to have to dig the line out, that it looked like a major job, and that he was going to get started. He did not leave a call-back number. I was apalled that he would begin work without my authorization, so I called the Coop back to ask them to ask him to stop. I didn't want to pay someone plumbers wages to dig out a pipe. There was no answer, so I left a message. (No one ever got back to me.) Then I immediately took off work and drove home. I live an hour from where I work. By the time I got home, he had found the problem and was fixing it (not such a major job after all). Later I found him wandering around my house looking for me. I guess he had knocked and I didn't hear him. Still, it seemed rather unprofessional and a little creepy that he would just walk into my home. He asked to clean up in the bathroom and borrow a towel. Plumbing is dirty work and I thought it odd that he didn't bring his own towel. Anyway, the project ended up costing me less than $300. As I had paid a plumber more than $600 for a similar job in the past, that seemed like a reasonable price. By the way, the third time I had this problem, I fixed it myself for the price of a piece of sewer pipe. I might use this company again, but they would not be my first choice.

They did a great job. The clean up was very good. We will use them again however some of the guys did not speak English and I couldn't tell them things at times. The main guy did speak English though.
