Alterra Pest Conrol

I pay about $114 quarterly.

Their door to door sales rep promised to cancel my current pest control company, and had me give her a bill with all the information on it.  Their person came out and sprayed, followed 2 days later by my current company, who had never been contacted.  I spoke with Alterra immediately and ended up speaking with the manager, who apologized, said they never handled the cancellations, and agreed to terminate my contract.  When it showed up on our bill I contacted Alterra again, and again they said they would take care of it.  They didn't.  Discover Card took it off our bill and sent them paperwork if they wanted to dispute  it, but Alterra never responded.  Then I got a mailed bill with a finance charge.  I called them and re-explained everything and they said too bad - their person sprayed.  (Which he never would have done had they told me the truth to get my signature on the contract in the first place.) Now they are threatening me with collections, because they completely circumvented my Credit Card consumer protections by just simply mailing me a bill.  This feels, shady, unethical, and illegal.  And Discover can no longer help, since they sided with me and put the money back that we had been charged.   What is a consumer to do??!!!

I have parted ways with this company, but I would say it has been amicable.  The manager over there, Robert, has bent over backward trying to satisfy me as a customer, but between their processes for scheduling appointments and the technicians that work for them, he's just fighting a losing battle.  

That said, they were able to control the pests around my house, so I was getting value for my money.  But the logistics of getting them to come out at times convenient for me, and getting them to honor reasonable requests like shutting my gate after their visits, became such a hassle that it was clear I needed to move on.  

The professionalism of workers is outstanding; however, their product doesn't seem to eradicate insects.  We were told that they can come back anytime, but reaching a person on the phone was difficult.  We're now trying a new company.

Clearly they work on commission as prices start high but can be negotiated much lower.
Every single person I dealt with has been super-friendly.
Treatment is questionable as to efficacy. We sometimes got more bugs INSIDE the house after treating outside. They often had to come and re-treat (no additional cost, immediate response.)
Non-toxic chemicals don't always work well. Spray on lavender plants to repel bees only worked for 24 hours (they did not guarantee it.) One tech sprayed the improper material inside the house leaving horrible white powder all over the walls and floor! Had to return and clean up and re-treat. (They learned from this mistake.)
Nice people, decent enough price for quarterly treatments, just not convinced their products really work all that well.
