WEST VALLEY PET LODGE

About us

West Valley Pet Lodge is family owned & operated since 1988. We are the one and only kennel in the area that can provide your pet with a "natural day". By that we mean a sunrise, and a sunset in beautiful Campbell. Your pet will not be confined to the four walls of an indoor facility that keeps them under artificial light most of the day, and deprives them of the fresh air we all seek and need. We are a traditional kennel - an old fashioned kennel, if you will. We don't shy away from that description. For well over 20 years we've seen the fads come and go as to the best way to care for pets. We've been tempted -(group play, communal boarding, tv, et al). But for us, safety, security, and the health of your pet is paramount, and we know our way is the best way. We encourage all pet owners to check our all of their options. Please visit every facility you are considering, and thank you for considering West Valley Pet Lodge

Very professional.  Confident my dog is getting good care at West Valley Pet Lodge when I am away.

It's very nice and very good. The dog was having a good time when we were there. It was the first time I ever boarded them so I was a little nervous. When we came back, they were happy and we were well taken care of so we're happy with them. It's a very traditional boarding place. It's not high tech so you don't know where and how to see your dog. It just has a very natural outsource and setting. They get a little crazy with the dogs. They did build it well and they were able board both dogs together and that was best for us.

The cost depends because I leave my dog there for day care, or for a night or for 2 weeks. Sometimes you can do extra things like extra play time and things like that. My dogs like going there, and that is always a good sign. They like the people there, and the people like dogs. I have seen other people who don't like animals. I used another boarding place where they trained and boarded dogs, but they used to drug my dogs. This place is in the middle of the industrial area, so there isn't anybody during the night. They are very professional, you can count on them, they are responsive, and they can give the dogs medication if needed. We feel very comfortable leaving our dogs there. They will let you check the kennels. They are very open, and very clean.  Their price is very fair for what they do.

The cat cages are nice and big and our cat was sane and healthy when we picked her up. They were prepared for us and accommodated our particular requests. The staff is friendly and we will definitely use the service again. Only quibble is they use scented cat litter, to which I am allergic. It took a day or two before our cat smelled neutral again.

They're good for dogs that are not playing in a group area with other dogs. If your dog is not used to playing with other dogs which mine isn't, it's the best thing to have them in a kennel rather than a group play area where they put all kinds of dogs where they're romping in one big room together. Because of my dog's personality - he is very timid and easily frightened of other animals - for him to have his own cage is the best thing. He likes the pet lodge. He wags his tail when I bring him over there. I know they treat them well and their phone lines are available to call and leave a message 24 hours a day. They're not staffed 24 hours a day but they get their messages. They require that you bring proof of vaccinations of your pets. That protects my dog when I know that all the other dogs are vaccinated. They also board cats; they have a separate cat wing although I haven't had any experience with that because I don't have a cat. If having your own cage suits your dog's personality then I really think that going with a kennel like their's is good. So I like them!

The whole experience was wonderful with West Valley Pet Lodge.  First off, we just moved to the area and had no idea who to use to board our two cats.  We used Angie's List to find West Valley Pet Lodge and took a tour.  The staff were extremely friendly and answered all of our questions.  When the day finally arrived to board the cats, one of the cats threw up in the car on the way to the lodge and the staff were wonderful and allowed us to bathe and dry the cat prior to putting him in his cage.  The cages are huge and both of our cats (who are about 10 lbs each) could stay in a cage together and still have plenty of room.
We had originally planned for the cats to be boarded for only a week and a half.  Unfortunately, circumstances changed and we had to call and extend the cats stay for 3 more days.  The staff were very accommodating and assured us the cats could stay and would be fine for the extra days.
I would highly recommend this facility to others.  Our dog will be joining us in California in the next few weeks and we will definitely be boarding the 2 cats and dog with this facility in the future (we were able to see the dog portion and the cages are in excellent condition to board our 57lb dog and we have the ability to request one to one play time with a staff member).  Also, this facility was the cheapest facility we found in the area.

All went well.  This is a privately-owned business, and the people there really care about doing things right.  It's not fancy, but we like that our dogs have an indoor/outdoor kennel, and get outdoor play time (vs. others, that board indoors 24/7, and the dogs never get to play in the sun).
I dinged them just a little in the price category, because even though we love the service, the drop off and pick up times are very limited for working people, and especially if you want to get your dogs out on a holiday or weekend (you can't, without special arrangements, and you still have to pay through for days you did not stay).  So we ended up paying for more days than we actually stayed.  As a point of comparison, I still think it was worth it for the added care and attention, and for the dogs having outdoor time.
Lastly, we have one doggie who is not so good with strangers.  Nonetheless, he seemed to do well with the staff of WVPL -- no problems.  So we were happy about that!

We searched for a place to board our dogs the first time we left for a long vacation. It seems that every place we visited was either a 'dog spa' that would cost us more than a 4-star hotel room, or a jail cell where the dogs would just be miserable. We were SO happy when we found West Valley Pet Lodge. The staff is awesome, the place is clean, and they have a couple of extra-large pens where our two large dogs could share comfortably. And the price was right in the middle between the spas and the jails. Perfect for our dogs and our budget.

Our first stop there was unannounced and we were pleased to get a tour of the whole facility, and all of the dog runs were amazingly clean and all dogs looked happy and active. The play area is fenced in and very nice. The runs are indoor-outdoor and covered so the dogs won't be baking in the sun, and can stay warm if they wish. There is a raised platform for the dogs to sleep comfortably too.

We could tell that the folks that worked there really cared about the dogs and the clients, and everything was explained to us, including the nutrition of the food that they supply so that we could compare fat-content of their daily food to make sure that they could transition without getting sick. We could bring our own food if we wanted. They were also willing to allow us to bring any toys for the dogs we wanted.

We stopped back in 2 more times unannounced and were welcomed to inspect the property again. Every time, it was the same wonderful experience. They gave us a 10% off coupon for their first stay, which was a nice bonus!

We housed our dogs there for 10 days during our vacation, and came back to happy healthy dogs that smelled great. We have since taken them there 2 more times and had the same wonderful experience every time. We were thrilled to see an Angie's List coupon in a couple of the latest monthly booklets, and used one at our last stop. The times we've taken our dogs, they are happy to be there. They actually run for the door, and are excited to see the staff members! They happily head to the back without even a goodbye lick! Amazing.

We'll keep going back. Why even look for anywhere else?

We got home a day early and called ahead to asked them to suggest a time when we could pick her up. When we got there, our dog was washed but had only been towel dried. She's an extremely hairy dog, and getting a bath without a blow-out usually results in loose hair getting all-over the car (which happened on the way home). It took me 20 minutes with the blow-dryer in the garage to get her dry enough and to blow enough loose hair out of her to let into the house. Not to mention the fact that I had to take a damp dog home at the end of November, and she was sneezing all the way.

My dog ran into the office and put her front paws up on the counter to say "hello." Since we've been taking her there for 10 years, she's very happy to be there. Kevin greeted us and gave me the collar and lead to put on her while he verified my emergency number and gave me an estimate of amount due.. He then took her inside while I left. Since she was there for a week, she was given an exit bath. When I picked her up, she was very happy to see me, but it was clear she also was happy with her stay. She smelled fresh from the bath and looked very clean. Typically I need to walk her immediately, which I did that day, and I then carried the plastic bag into the office so someone could dispose of it for me. They've always been willing to do this for me. In addition, they all recognize my name when I call for a reservation and I never have to identify myself when I go to pick her up. I want to add a bit more information about this kennel. When I was searching for information by calling the various places, Gary invited my to visit them for a tour. That's what sold me on them. Additionally, I boarded my dog for 5-1/2 weeks several years ago and she was just as happy then as she is during a shorter stay. I think the 4-member staff goes out of their way to make the dogs and cats happy in addition to providing excellent service to the pet owners.

Our dog was very well taken care off (in fact every time she comes back with additional pounds on her since she gets to eat way more there). We took the daily playtime option too - and she gets some 1:1 time that way. We would like to mention the great customer service there. On one of our trips due to a family emergency we had to leave town without any notice to make reservations in advance etc. We called up west valley pet lodge literally on our way out to the airport- and they took in our dog without any problems - she stayed there well for the next 3 weeks.

We are quite pleased with their care however they do not have very big cages or a big run for the animals. That really is there only down fall. Their cost is quite good, they have a very clean facility and most of all they treat my dog really good. I would recommend them to others.
Response from WEST VALLEY PET LODGE
""We are of course happy that the member was pleased with our services, but feel we need to comment on her "size of runs" comments. Our kennel runs easily accommodate dogs from Yorkies or Chihuahuas, to Mastiffs or Irish Wolfhounds. We've kenneled all, including our own 3 Irish Wolfhounds - 2 of them, together in one of the runs designed for just that purpose. Perhaps we failed to show her that area of the kennel. Sorry!" I trust these guys with my best friend. Scrappy loves it there, and they like him too. They do not put little dogs in runs next to big aggressive dogs. I've been using the Pet Lodge for many years. I learned to book and pay in advance for holidays. They fill up fast for Christmas. These folks like animals.

Overall my experience has been good. The two dogs are boarded together in a large kennel with room to run and a covered area. Play time is available for an addtional fee. Exit baths are also available. The dogs seem to be well cared for.

MY OVERALL EXPERIENCE WAS WONDERFUL. I WAS IMPRESSED WHEN I CALLED TO INQUIRE ABOUT THE PLACE. THE STAFF WAS VERY HELPFUL AND UNDERSTANDING. THEY OFFERED TO SHOW ME WHERE MY DOG WOULD BE STAYING, AND SHOWED ME THE REST OF THE KENNEL.
