"We responded to this review when it was first posted, but that was somehow removed. This is a long review, but in general, it seems like the only major issue was the color of the hardwood floor stain selected and whether or not it perfectly matched the color of the stain of the doors in the home. So, right off the bat - I don't know what this "professional stain matching service" is that we were quoted as having; we definitely did not make this claim. In addition, there can't be a guarantee that the floor stain will exactly and perfectly match the doors. We absolutely will do our best to match it as close as is possible (and I do guarantee our best is the best one can provide). But there are SO many factors that go into the surface's final appearance: - Wood species - UV damage or other wear & tear of the doors over the years - Lighting effects on floors & doors - Color of paint on the walls & furniture in the same vicinity reflecting onto the surfaces Our mechanics make stain samples on your actual hardwood so that all the aforementioned environmental factors can be seen with a larger area of color. That's why they don't have stain charts. Of course, the homeowner's approval is required before the stain is selected, which was also provided in this project. I wish we had received a phone call during this stain matching process so one of our office managers (or myself) could have addressed the concern at the time - just like we addressed and fixed the concern with the damaged floorboards mentioned near the end of the review. Sometimes, things aren't perfect right off the bat. That happens! But we take great pride in our work and will make sure to correct any issues our customers may have or educate them on what the potential issue could be. They are too expensive for what I got. They also put some marbolium in a small area and I couldn't close my door. He complained and complained and begrudgingly fixed the door. And then they left without putting the strip back on the bottom of my door. I called them and he said Oh yeah I saw that in the back of my truck. He came back out and put it on.
I will never use them again.
"Hi [Member Name Removed], We're quite surprised to see this review 2+ years after the jobs were completed, especially after receiving a positive feedback evaluation form from you! Here's a scan of that feedback form showing all 10 out of 10 ratings. This is typically anonymous, but you just happened to put your name on the back of it as your return address! [Removed Hyperlink] Please understand that we're just writing to defend ourselves against the claims you made. From what we recall, the project and experience with the 2 jobs we did for you were actually very positive. It's important to understand that your hardwood floors are 5/16" floors. These are different from more modern, thicker 3/4" wood floors. The number refers to the thickness of the wood planks. 5/16" floors have flat sides and the wood planks do not "connect" with each other. This makes them more vulnerable to subfloor/foundation movement. 3/4" floors have a tongue and groove that "click" the planks together, eliminating the gaps between planks. Since 5/16" floor planks do not "connect" with each other, they are much more susceptible to natural wood expansion/contraction, along with the movements of the ground (especially here in the Bay Area). This means your 5/16" floors WILL lead to these gaps you mention over time (say, 3 years - just about how long ago it was when we refinished and fixed these floors). We also didn't INSTALL these 5/16" floors. We just REFINISHED them. Excessive movement would mean a structural issue below the floors - an issue for a general contractor! -- Regarding the Marmoleum in your kitchen, it was so long ago that I can't address the begrudging attitude. Sorry about that. However, it seems like the other minor issues were fixed and there were no other issues. Sometimes, things aren't perfect right off the bat. That happens! But we take great pride in our work and will make sure to correct any issues our customers may have or educate them on what the potential issue could be. That same pride and quality is reflected in our pricing. For any questions about this reply, please contact: Joan Slaughterbeck Owner, Slaughterbeck Floors, Inc. 408-379-5813"
Wow! Awesome. From start to finish. To begin with, they have a really great showroom. They have a lot of samples of different brands, styles and types of flooring. Their staff is helpful and knowledgeable. I never felt pressured or given a line like, "The sale is only this weekend" or told they were going to throw in something at a discount because I was so cool or because they were so cool. You could tell that they took pride in their company and the reputation of their business. It also seemed like the employees at the office really enjoyed working together.
After placing my order, there was a manufacturer delay in the delivery of my flooring. This delayed the install date by two days. They kept me up to date regarding this and called me when the flooring arrived.
The gentleman who installed my floor was fantastic. My floor couldn't look any better. Real attention to detail. This was also evident in how he was teaching his son who was with him while he was installing my floor. In the four days at my house I don't recall his son ever actually installing a piece of my flooring. However, while at my house they talked extensively about how to install the flooring, how to address the installation issues that arose during installation and the why behind them.
I also have to give props to his son. I was very impressed by his attitude, eagerness and willingness to learn. It is a long day to go back and forth to fetch tools while you watch someone else install floor. He seemed to ask very appropriate and knowledgeable questions.
After completing the job there was only 1.5 boxes of material left. That is impressive. Many flooring companies will sell you more floor than you need which can significantly increase the price of the job. They did such a great job measuring in the beginning and didn't charge me for more floor than I needed that now I have the perfect amount of leftover material in case I damage a piece or I do some additional remodeling.

They installed really attractive primed base boards & if I could have afforded it, I would have paid to have semi-gloss applied. I did the work & found it very time consuming & difficult, but it looks nice.
I had used Slaughterbeck Floors two times before on the installation of oak hardwood floors in my kitchen, dining & then living room. They had done such great work ten to fifteen years ago, I decided to call them back this July & I'm glad I did.
When they were done, they discovered that the floor was1/8" lower than the former floor so we had to have a handyman come in to paint around it and reset the baseboards. But they had warned us this might happen and credited us for what they would have charged for the baseboard reset.
Our floor looks sooo much better! It's flat and you can just tell it was a professional job! The area was left clean and neat and they delivered exactly what they promised when they promised.
I would use them again and recommend them to anyone who wants a quality job at a reasonable price
