We had an issue with our downstairs furnace short cycling. I scheduled a cleaning for both furnaces figuring the issue would get caught and they'd be cleaned as well. They cam out, cleaned the furnaces and replaced a capacitor which turned out not to be the issue. Jim, the long time expert came out 2 days later to determine airflow was the issue and completed the cleaning of the troubled unit. Trina stayed in touch all the way, they showed up right on time & all including pricing couldn't have been more acceptable. We've used them for this reason for years. Dan

It went terrible.  They never got back to me with an estimate for the work I wanted.   The diagnostics part went pretty well.  He was here two weeks after the purchase date.  There were no additional costs.  He fixed a thermostat as well.  They could have got back to me with an estimate that I had requested.  The worker was alright.   I would tell a friend not to use them.

Apparently when the furnace was replaced 11 years prior,  it was not set up correctly and was off balance creating the leak.  It had been placed on bricks rather than mounted or attached to stabilize it.

I chose to have the unit replaced. They also replaced some of the air ducts.

It was not a easy job due to having to remove the old unit and build the new unit in the attic.

They did a good job in a short amount of time considering the adverse conditions.

I  highly recommend them.

Angie's List was offering a special on HVAC diagnostic calls.  The specials were from multiple vendors I had an urgent problem with the furnace.  I have used Residential before, liked them, so purchased their special.  After purchasing the special, and only AFTER committing to the purchase, I found out that the schedule offered by Angie's List had nothing whatsoever to do with the vendor's availability.  No one from the vendor could come out until more than a week later.  I found another vendor, not on Angie's List, who could come immediately.
I have given this vendor an A rating simply because they should not suffer over Angie's List failings.  I like Residential and in fact am asking them for an estimate to replace our whole system.  They have been very good in the past for us.
Many vendors on Angie's List were offering specials.  After contacting a number of them directly (and after I had already purchased the special for Residential), I concluded that they were all booked solid for a week out, perhaps because of all the specials.  Do not use Angie's List specials if you have an urgent problem.  When you purchase the special, there is no way to know what the vendor's availability is.   Go find your own vendor.  Not sure yet whether I can get my $60 refunded from Angie.  No matter.  We needed heat pronto.
Response from Residential Heating & Air Conditioning

"Hi [Member Name Removed]: I'm so sorry we weren't able to meet your timing needs for the repair. Please let me know if you are not able to get the deal refunded through Angie's List and we will work with you to make sure to resolve the issue. We've replaced a few of the systems in your neighborhood and appreciate you considering us for that future need."

He was on time and super nice.  He explained everything very clearly and gave his recommendations.  He was also clean.  He wore shoe covers and he cleaned up any mess that was made.  I would highly recommend this company and JIm without reservations.  I used them because I found an Angie's List deal and the great reviews on Angie's List.  This is my first online review of any company.

Our external A/C unit stopped working (on a very hot day, of course) and we could hear dripping at the furnace. The A/C came back on after a few hours, but we scheduled an evaluation of the entire system.
Uniformed repairman in marked company van was right on time. He did a thorough inspection of the system. He disassembled the furnace housing and found water in the evaporation pan. He cleaned out the water, flushed the drain (condensate) line and changed the filter in the furnace. At the external unit, he checked the charge, inspected all the wiring and cleaned the coils. He also checked the drain pipe on the outside of the house to ensure the condensation from the furnace was draining properly.
The company that came out the previous year--which I won't name--barely touched the unit, gave me a lecture why it was the wrong size for the furnace closet, and charged at least 50% more.
Residential HVAC is going in my address book for future reference and repairs. Highly recommend them!
(Note that total charge of $120 was with an Angie's List coupon.)

Excellent crew. I would not hesitate to call them for an estimate. They did not even charge me labour after we asked them to change out the capacitor and it was then that they found out the compressor burned out. It was 20 years old so we decided to get a new unit as they recommended.
The installation date was set but it was going to be postponed for 6 days due to city codes. Well, I really could not wait with a toddler and an upcoming hot weekend. Chris absolutely pushed to have it done before the weekend and they delivered.
I could not be more happy and confident to recommend this company.

Very professional process through out from creating a quote and going though the options to the installation process and finishing off with the inspection process. The guys on the job worked very efficient and did a fantastic job in doing every possible in keeping dust under control. This was a big job and we couldn't have been more satisfied with the effort that was made to meet our expectations. Thanks Residential!

Robert was our guy assigned to us, he arrived just about on time, So we were quickly given a short wait to get the furnace inspected just 4 days from when I called - good stuff. Robert arrived with soft booties to make sure he did not get our carpet dirty. Total time he was at our house was about 15 minutes. So he was very precise, he mentioned that he had three models that would fit our needs, he would inquire at the office the same day and call us the same day with the three different prices. Well Thursday came and went. Finally I called the office and got a hold of our dear Robert. Well he said in a matter of fact voice, oh that! Well our company does not do that type of furnace, or supply that. I told him I was a Angies list member and very mad at this type of flaking out. He responded sort of causally. hmm well what do you want me to do? He said well I could refer you to and he mentioned some other company. I said no Thanks and hung up <>*&65$

Update:  After I wrote the above review the owner called to talk with me.  She informed me that the contact person we had dealt with was no longer with the company.  She also said that she had not heard about the "missed" code issues and subsequent add on to the bill.  She stated that such "misses" were the company's responsibility and refunded me the $1000.  I recalled that during the wrap up of the work when the contact person told me that we would not, unfortunately, achieve the maximum possible PG&E refund, which he had so vigorously dangled during negotiations, that she at that time refunded the difference between the refund we actually qualified for and what we were going to get.  She clearly demonstrated exceptional professionalism.

This was one of the most pleasant experiences I've had dealing with home repair work.  The story went as follows:
1) I searched Angie's List for top rated HVAC shops
2) Talked to 3 of them.  Really enjoyed my conversations first with Kelly (I think) and then Cathy from Residential. They were very helpful, and super pleasant.  This set a great tone initially.
3) Jim arrived on time and even called in advance to let me know he was coming.  When he arrived he too was really friendly and got to work immediately.  He brought shoe booties that I appreciate.
4) After about 10 min Jim told us that the likely culprit was a loose bolt on the blower fan.  He was able to fix it without removing the housing.
5) We then talked about the furnace.  Since the furnace was old he made sure we had CO detectors in place and we then talked about new furnaces and AC equipment.  While the appt was only 30 min, Jim spent another 30 advising us on everything from house fans to new insulation.  I didn't feel Jim was 'selling' rather, he was advising, which I really appreciate.
6) Cathy later followed up based on our request within a couple of days.
Overall, I am extremely pleased with my experience with Residential, so much so, that they are coming back to do an energy assessment.  Definitely 5 stars!

The technician was very thorough checking the house for gas leaks, duct leaks, checked the attic, insulation, crawl space, furnace & air-conditioning and provided a detailed report of our house's energy consumption and % loss with suggestions to reduce leakage.
