Apparently when the furnace was replaced 11 years prior, it was not set up correctly and was off balance creating the leak. It had been placed on bricks rather than mounted or attached to stabilize it.
I chose to have the unit replaced. They also replaced some of the air ducts.
It was not a easy job due to having to remove the old unit and build the new unit in the attic.
They did a good job in a short amount of time considering the adverse conditions.
I highly recommend them.
I have given this vendor an A rating simply because they should not suffer over Angie's List failings. I like Residential and in fact am asking them for an estimate to replace our whole system. They have been very good in the past for us.
Many vendors on Angie's List were offering specials. After contacting a number of them directly (and after I had already purchased the special for Residential), I concluded that they were all booked solid for a week out, perhaps because of all the specials. Do not use Angie's List specials if you have an urgent problem. When you purchase the special, there is no way to know what the vendor's availability is. Go find your own vendor. Not sure yet whether I can get my $60 refunded from Angie. No matter. We needed heat pronto.
"Hi [Member Name Removed]: I'm so sorry we weren't able to meet your timing needs for the repair. Please let me know if you are not able to get the deal refunded through Angie's List and we will work with you to make sure to resolve the issue. We've replaced a few of the systems in your neighborhood and appreciate you considering us for that future need."
Uniformed repairman in marked company van was right on time. He did a thorough inspection of the system. He disassembled the furnace housing and found water in the evaporation pan. He cleaned out the water, flushed the drain (condensate) line and changed the filter in the furnace. At the external unit, he checked the charge, inspected all the wiring and cleaned the coils. He also checked the drain pipe on the outside of the house to ensure the condensation from the furnace was draining properly.
The company that came out the previous year--which I won't name--barely touched the unit, gave me a lecture why it was the wrong size for the furnace closet, and charged at least 50% more.
Residential HVAC is going in my address book for future reference and repairs. Highly recommend them!
(Note that total charge of $120 was with an Angie's List coupon.)
The installation date was set but it was going to be postponed for 6 days due to city codes. Well, I really could not wait with a toddler and an upcoming hot weekend. Chris absolutely pushed to have it done before the weekend and they delivered.
I could not be more happy and confident to recommend this company.
1) I searched Angie's List for top rated HVAC shops
2) Talked to 3 of them. Really enjoyed my conversations first with Kelly (I think) and then Cathy from Residential. They were very helpful, and super pleasant. This set a great tone initially.
3) Jim arrived on time and even called in advance to let me know he was coming. When he arrived he too was really friendly and got to work immediately. He brought shoe booties that I appreciate.
4) After about 10 min Jim told us that the likely culprit was a loose bolt on the blower fan. He was able to fix it without removing the housing.
5) We then talked about the furnace. Since the furnace was old he made sure we had CO detectors in place and we then talked about new furnaces and AC equipment. While the appt was only 30 min, Jim spent another 30 advising us on everything from house fans to new insulation. I didn't feel Jim was 'selling' rather, he was advising, which I really appreciate.
6) Cathy later followed up based on our request within a couple of days.
Overall, I am extremely pleased with my experience with Residential, so much so, that they are coming back to do an energy assessment. Definitely 5 stars!
