Remnant Termite

A guy from the company was sent to inspect the house. Later I found he is the apprentice of the owner. I wasn’t involved much in the process and the guy didnot tell me much as the working he was doing. At the end the report showed no termite, other than some dry wood and fungus. I was happy about the result. The seller didnot want to perform the repair work so the wood repair work was postposed to couple months later when I finally prepared to move in. The repair workers found the termite in the damaged wood. I called the company and was able to reach the owner, but it was on Saturday and he did not work on Sat/Sun, so he asked me to call the lady who does the appointment. I wasn’t able to reach the lady but left couple message. By Monday, the lady arranged the owner to come on Tuesday noon, when I was planning to take couple hours off my work to meet the owner. But 2nd day the owner called in at 11AM saying that he was nearby the proper and wanted to see immediately. I couldn’t be there in a short time (it takes me 30 min to drive home) so just let him inspect the damaged wood pieces that I told the repair workers to leave on the ground. He looked at the wood samples and told me on the phone that he saw termite as well. I was pretty mad and questioned him why his man did not find out back in couple months ago, it was so obvious. Couple days later he sent me a report just based on those pieces of cut off wood samples. I think this company was not doing a good job, missed the important fact of termite existence, and left the liability on me as buyer instead of seller. The 2nd report was not based on the thorough re-inspection, which was not responsible.

Inspection report was thorough. For the masking today, we had a miscommunication re the appointment time, but they sent someone within a few hours - on the day before Thanksgiving!

Remnant visited to give me an estimate, and again to complete the work that I wanted done from their estimate. Their prices were reasonable and they had good recommendations for how to treat the subterranean termites I had. They also found some fungus under one of my bathrooms that other termite companies missed when giving me competitive bids. Remnant's workers were all polite, although I had problems when they visited to complete the work of replacing rafter-tails and drilling/treating for termites. First problem: the guy they sent out had poor carpentry skills, and did a very sloppy job of replacing the rafter-tails. I had to call and complain to have the work redone (which they did). Second, the guy they sent in the morning only did the carpentry (poorly) -- I had to be home to meet yet a second worker who completed the work. They didn't tell me this beforehand and wasted lots of my time that day. There might be worse co's out there, but prob there's also better....
