I called about 12-15 garage door contractors on angie's list, craigslist, and yellow pages and even the big box stores (lowes, home depot and costco). I determined the top three brands most were using (Amarr, Cloypay and WayneDalton). After researching each make/model on their websites, I eliminated Clopay (over priced, lower quality, less insulation rating) and made Wayne Dalton my first pick and Amarr the backup. I called all contractors and asked them which doors they recommended and only considered the ones who installed Wayne Dalton. Compared prices and there was as much as $800-$1000 difference for the identical doors from the larger garage shops vs. Pacific Systems. I spoke with Mike on the phone and you could tell immediately he knew his business - garage doors. He didn't try to upsell or switch me to another door that offered more profit. he did try to charge me for removal and did not resuse any existing hardware (except opener which was new). I even had him research a few things from the Mfg and he confirmed before ordering. His price was pretty much the lowest - (one other guy in fremont was $100 lower, but he seemed pretty new and couldn't quote stuff of the top of his head like mike did). Also unlike the big door shops, Mike is the owner and installer and he took his time to do a quality job. He has more than 20yrs experience with garage doors and it definately showed in his work. He was very honest, clean and professional - quite the opposite of some the other "salesman" I spoke with own the phone. I was initially concerned he didn't have angieslist rating and only 1 rating on yelp while the "other guys" had dozens. He explained that he works for many companies and hoa's so his busy is steady and because he has low overhead, he doesn't need to move 100s of doors each month. Good honest contractor that I would highly recommend. (BTW - He came all the way from San Jose to Danville just for my job). His website is www.garagedoorssanjoseca.com 408.313.7271
