The quality of Mike's work was decent. The price was fair. My advice: if you use Mike be sure to HOLD BACK PAYMENT until all work is complete. Details: resurfacing project for kitchen cabinets, total project ~$10k. Mike resurfaced as well as converted a few cabinets to a better configuration for our needs. He reinforced a few shelves too. I was and continue to be happy with the work. However, there were three things that were never completed, and I wish I had held back payment. He never returned to complete the work, despite following up for months. 1) hinge hardware for several doors is of the wrong type and interferes with use of the cabinets. the fix is to replace the hinges on about 6 of the cabinets. 2) holes were put in the wall to provide room for the wrong hinges. these holes were filled in a completely unprofessional way. when you open the cabinets it is glaring and looks terrible. this is the cabinet where we store plates for dinner, so I am reminded every night. the fix is to fill, sand, and paint these holes AND replace the hinges. 3) he drilled a hole for a door pull in the wrong location. He filled the hole but it's obvious and in a highly visible location. the fix is to replace the door. mike said he ordered but never came by to replace. 4) for a large pantry door, it is clearly visible that screws to mount the door were too long and are pushing out from under the finished surface, again a highly visible location. the fix is to replace the door. mike said he ordered but never came by to replace.

Mike Sims refaced my two bathroom cabinets & kitchen cabinets one year ago, and I’ve been haunted by the fact I didn’t write a complimentary review, so here it is! Mike was a joy to work with. He is straightforward, dependable, thorough, attentive to detail, precise, offered valuable suggestions - a true master at his craft. As well, the job was very reasonably priced. I recommend him without reservation. There isn’t a day I don’t marvel at the transformation of the kitchen. Thank you Mike!

Great. He finished on schedule, was easy to work with, taped and closed everything off, gave lots of good design advice, but listened when we wanted something different.

Mike Sims did a terrific job, and I recommend him very, very highly.  He exceeded my expectations, and we are completely happy with the results of his work.
He explained the alternatives and various issues related to the installation clearly.  He was easy to work with.  His price was excellent.  We scheduled the job promptly.  He showed up and did all of the work himself, across more than a week, very timely.  He was completely reliable, did an excellent job of installation, and everything looks great and works perfectly.
It was a completely satisfying experience working with Mike.  Everything went entirely smoothly; Mike was flexible and reasonable about a few small modifications in the job as it moved along. Just a perfect, simple experience having this work done.  Couldn't be happier about how the entire project worked out.

Mike did a fantastic job transforming our old-looking cabinets to new, shaker style cabinets.  He first tore out the existing tile countertop and backsplash.  Mike installed plywood underlayment for the new countertop and made sure everything was level.  The refacing portion of the job took about a week to do and we?re really pleased with the job that Mike did for us.  The whole process from initial consultation and color/style selection to demo to refacing went very smoothly.  Mike also installed new drawer boxes, added in rollouts in the pantry, and cut out some new shelves for us.  He is definitely a skilled craftsman who knows his line of work.  I would also note that Mike did a nice job of communicating with us throughout the job and incorporating whatever input we had.  Mike cleaned up the work site every day and was very careful to protect our floors and garage space.

I had a side wall cabinet against one side of the fridge that was never installed correctly and always seemed to buckle a little and wasn't secure. Mike came by to look at it and decided it was something he could fix. In talking about it, and his perfectionist eye, which I really appreciated, he ended up levels doors, repairing a cabinet door, and completely removing the side cabinet wall. He took the cabinet wall to his shop to cut it down along with an extra cabinet door he has to cut down in order to add filler to properly complete the job. He was here for several hours and did a marvelous job. Turns out my ceiling wasn't level, which created an illusion of cabinets being crooked but he solved the problem exceptionally. He was a pleasure to work with and I wouldn't hesitate using him again...for a repair or for custom cabinetry, which is actually what he specializes in. Just an all around good guy with great skills and a good eye.

Very nice, punctual and professional. He came over, measured specifics - as the shelves had to be just right in order to fit the open space. I added some tricky parts to the original plan, which made it even tougher for Mike (one shelf that blends in with the others but is actually a pull out). He sketched out some plans, we met again, I okay'd everything and he went back to his shop to begin building. It was about a 2 week turn around until he was ready for install. Shelves look great. Mike is not only good at what he does, he's honest and fair. I would definitely call him again... and probably will.

Mike completed the project as contracted. He was a little sloppy with the glue but nothing that couldn't be cleaned up. He miss counted our drawer faces so we had to wait a few days longer for our job to be completed. Our kitchen looks great and I have no complaints using Mike. He did everything we asked and made our kitchen look great. He works alone. At least he did with us. he kept the mess from sanding to a minimum and cleaned up each night he left. I liked that I could still use my kitchen while it was being worked on. Much better to reface than tare everything out. saved a lot of money too. We just had cheap, particle board modular cabinets. You'd never be able to tell now. Mike uses all quality products. Doors and hardware. I wish I could post my before and after pictures. The transformation is awesome.

We are so glad we went with Mike and his services for refacing our kitchen cabinets. He was extremely thorough right from start to finish and very professional.
He took our suggestions into account and went through every detail of the work with us to make sure we are on the same page.
His pricing is very competitive and he is quite flexible to accomodate changes ( Make sure you don't take this for granted though).
He puts in a lot of effort into his work and the finish is impeccable. WE have received so many compliments on our kitchen cabinets and it literally looks like we did a complete kitchen remodel.
Thanks MikE!

Mike just did a great job. To reface the face frame cabinets, he laminated all surfaces (a more expensive solution involves replacing the entire face frame of the cabinets. Mike simply laminated them.). He also replaced two drawers, 4 shelves, and laminated the bottom of all cabinets. The lamination totally transformed the junk, original cabinets, to make them appear as solid Cherry and high quality. Mike is obviously a craftsman, because the finished job is very well executed. Throughout the entire process, Mike was on time, always cleaned up each night (it was a 4 day job), and was highly professional... for instance, he created a sealed-off alcove around the linen cabinets, so the dust created by his extensive sanding would not spread throughout our house. We would recommend Mike for any cabinet refacing/transformation project.

Mike Sims will totally exceed your high expectations. What a master at whatever he touches! My kitchen was non-standard with many difficult issues. He rose to the occasion every time. He is professional, dependable (even returns calls promptly!), and very accomodating. His work is absolutely perfect! He literally transformed my kitchen into a thing of beauty when he refaced my cabinets. So far everyone who has seen my kitchen has said how beautiful the cupboards are.Mike goes the extra mile to help with whatever needs to be done - even if it's really not part of his job. He keeps his word, has excellent follow through, is a perfectionist, and his price is very fair. I couldn't be happier! And I can't stop admiring my gorgeous new cupboards!

I had a hunch I was on to something good from reading all the positive reviews Northwest Woodworking received. Mike Sims, the owner, was the only one who took the time to show me a catalog and explain all the styles, types, and features of what he offered, along with great samples of styles and finishes to choose from. He was very detailed in explaining his workmanship and came up with a perfect solution to some problem cabinets. Having the best 'karma' (and the best estimate), how could I go wrong. His professionalism exceeded in all areas, he cleaned up his work area each day, and his perfectionism shows when one sees the fantastic looks of my cabinets, vanities and wet bar. I'm thrilled with how they turned out!

This was a project where we were redoing our kitchen and rather than replacing all of our cabinets, we decided to reface them. Mike came out and spent a couple of hours going over what the layout of our kitchen is and what we could change within the limitations of keeping the current framework of the cabinetry. He had a lot of really good ideas and replaced all the lower cabinets with deep drawers, which really increased the storage and functionality of the kitchen. He had all the right samples of woods and stains to make sure we chose the right stuff and just was amazingly professional, competent, and detail oriented through the whole process. I am very happy with him.

Mike did an awesome job of replacing our kitchen cabinet doors and drawers. He called to confirm arrival time, showed up on time and cleaned up at the end of the day. He assisted us with finding the correct doors and style. He is a very meticulous and detailed oriented craftsman. We will use him again.

He showed up. He was flexible. Pushed the start date to two days later. He also had to work on Saturday to finish the job. He had to come back to install my handles. He was flexible in that respect. I am very happy with his work.

He was always on time, cleaned up at the end of each day, and minimized the impact on our daily routine as much as possible. He was always ready and willing to address our questions as well as providing suggestions for ways to improve functionality. He worked smoothly with our granite company, plumber, and electrician.
His quote and time frame were right on the money.
The quality of his work, as well as the materials provided, were absolutely top notch. I recommend him without reservation. We will use hime again.
A true professional.

The job was six weeks late being completed. The guides in the new pantry were only screwed down in the middle. When they are fully entended, the end of the guides deflect and the rollers come out. I had Mike back out to attach both ends, as they should have been done originally. His attitude was poor that he had to come back. He smokes and he reeked of cigarette smoke every time he came. We had to air out the house when he left. He did not finish repairing all of the incorrectly installed shelf guides and several of them do not work correctly a year later. I would not use him again, nor recommend his work.

Mike did an amazing job. My husband, who was a total skeptic of the process, ate his words. As we had never done something like this before, we were concerned that the cabinets would look refaced vs. new and that it would be easy to tell what was done. We were wrong. Mike talked me through the whole process. He kept to my crazy schedule and kept me appraised of what was going on during the work. I really liked the fact that it was just him and not some crew and I could see how much he cared about the quality of his work product. We had a few things that came up during the work where changes had to be made and Mike made it really easy to deal with. He also kept my new appliances which were installed before he started, covered and looking new. The kitchen looks beautiful and we couldn't be more pleased. While the job was expensive, Mike's prices were very competitive and fair for the amount of time and effort it took to do the work. The cabinets look like new and we have had nothing but compliments.

The quality of the work was fantastic! Mike is a true artisan. The quality of work is excellent. The stain and finish is also excellent. Frankly, I think they look better than any cabinets I've ever seen. The price was great. At just under $5,000, it was less than half of what it would have cost me to get new cabinets put in.

Mike Sims is the owner and he does all the work himself. We hired him to resurface all of our large kitchen, master bath and laundry room. Before I hired him, I went to another house where he offered the same service 10 years ago--still looks very good. He was meticulous and a master of his craft. We received many nice compliments for his work. He is a perfectionist, a rare finding these days. Mike worked with utmost professionalism and was a good sport when we scheduled the counter people to work the same day he was there. He guarantees his work and stands by it. He came to fix some knicks caused by us and did not even charge us. His price was fair as well. I would highly recommend his work.
