"Well thank you for your positive words about our company, although I am a bit confused that the overall rating was an F. I'm hoping that was just a typo and that you did indeed receive the service you were looking for. If there is anything in the future we can do for you please let us know, and thank you for your business."
"While I do appreciate the seriousness of this accusation, I find it practically impossible to believe our worker is responsible for the disappearance of these items given his exemplary track record spanning over 3 years with my company. As you stated, permission was asked to use the facilities, and my employee witnessed your wife remove valuables, showing that she was aware they were there and had some concern for their safety. But she claims that other valuables were left, and those were then allegedly missing later. My worker, who was still engaged in work on your property, was then detained by a deputy sheriff you called. My employee granted permission for a search of the company vehicle as well as his person, which turned up nothing. The police report has logged them as missing items, not stolen items. While I do not think you are trying to run a scam, and I can't for certain say what did happen to the items, I am as sure as I can be that they were not stolen by my employee. If this were a matter of workmanship or some sort of damage to your property directly attributable to my workers, I would have no issue at all with reimbursing you the amount requested, but this is a criminal accusation, and as such I do not feel there is much middle ground here to meet you on. If I did give you $2000 for the missing items, I would only do so if I felt they had been stolen, and I would need to take further action such as terminating the employment of an employee with an excellent record, and filing claims against him with related licensing boards, as well as assisting you in any additional steps you feel need to be taken. But that is not a course of action I am willing to take based solely on the assurance of yourself and your wife that there is no other possible explanation for where your valuables went. The mediation company that I wanted to bring in to assist likewise does not handle or reimburse in these cases and for good reason. To reimburse money for claims of items stolen or missing on nothing more the accusation alone would open them up to endless liability from dishonest clients. Again, I do not think you fall into this category, but neither to I think theft is the only possible explanation for their disappearance. Lacking more solid evidence I can not do as you ask. I wish you luck in locating the missing valuables, as doing so would no doubt exonerate my employee and my company's otherwise strong reputation."
