Martin is very nice and the work that he did on landscaping was good with the exception of the fence that a sub came to do. The fence is falling apart and Martin will not respond back to fix the problem. I have called and sent him messages countless times and he won't get back to me to get the fence repaired. Good luck if you need to get a hold of him after your project is done.

His work is excellent. Martin is very knowledgeable and skilled with both irrigation and landscaping. He diagnosed the problems with our old irrigation and we had him upgrade our yard to a drip system. He also installed all new landscaping for us as well as fixing problems with our existing hardscape. He is very easy to work with, reliable and completely professional.

I needed a gardener who could get rid of my lawn and replace it with drought-resistant plants. Martin Gonzalez provided the know-how and energy to do a tremendous job. He made me aware of various options I hadn't thought of and his excellent recommendations resulted in my getting far more benefits than I originally expected -- at a reasonable price. Martin and his crew are fast, efficient workers who are knowledgable and do a careful, neat job. I was so pleased with Martin's front yard work that I asked him to fix up my back yard which was an overgrown mess after 55 years. He converted it into a useful, pleasant area. I highly recommend Gonzalez Gardening and Landscaping.I will definitely call Martin for future gardening projects.

EXCELLENTLY...Martin and his great crew were fun to talk with and they did an excellent job designing and laying out the pavers we had. We had bought three pallets of pavers a few yrs back, and thought we would do it ourselves...ya know how that one goes!! Martin was one of three we talked with, and he was quick to respond and kept in touch with us along the way with details as we asked or that he needed from us. We love our nice clean side yard and now I finally have the driveway turn-around I have wanted for several years!!

When I found that the sprinkler system for my back lawn was not working properly, I checked Angie's List. One company stood out in almost all the reviews. After reading them, contrary to my usual practice, I called only Martin Gonzalez--not even for an estimate but to come out and fix my system, thinking that he might be able to come out in a couple of weeks. Much to my amazement, when I spoke to him, he asked, "When can I come out?" He was working on a big job near my house, so he said he could be at my place in an hour. Right on the money, he was here. He listened to my problem, had me turn on the sprinkler, saw what was happening, and made the diagnosis. Amazing! He said the solenoid on the control valve was not functioning properly. He first tried the least costly method--replace just the solenoid. That was only moderately successful. So he replaced the whole valve unit. Great! Everything is working properly now. I had had visions of a broken or plugged pipe with a really costly repair. Nope. In a short time, he was on his way, leaving one happy man.

He removed the grass and made sure the surface was completely flat and solid before placing the tiles with the appropriate amount of sand for stability. In addition he had to redo a brick border against my deck and rearrange my sprinklers. Martin has done many jobs for me over the past 10 years like reinforcing my fence with new posts, replace planting beds, and most recently replaced 300 feet of grass with medium cobblestones in my front yard thus eliminating the sprinklers. In addition, his team takes care of my lawns on a weekly basis.

They do a good job, are on-time and fast. They come consistently and handle the business professionally. I receive an official invoice each month and I pay via personal check, so it is all above-board. I don't think they are the cheapest, but they do a consistently decent job and are professional and on-time (which is rare for residential gardening services, in my experience). Martin is also a very nice, personable guy. I believe he is a native English speaker so there is no trouble communicating with him, although his crew (who are the ones who show up every week) speak only Spanish. On occassion, Martin has done minor fixes for us (fence gate, a busted sprinkler drip head) at no extra charge and was really nice about it.

Martin's guys do mow & blow and pruning of plants for us on a weekly basis for $110 a month for a 10,000 sqft lot in Los Gatos that is mostly lawn with border hedges and some bushes. As part of this service, he does things like aerate the lawns on occasion, prune roses (pruning is not up to the standards of rose afficianados, but I don't care), prune the hedges other bushes, fertilize, etc. They do not use any pesticides becase I have asked them not to. At this point, I don't have them do any planting. Just yard maintenance. For extra charges, they've done some fixing of our fences, fence gates, and sprinkler system. Also, replacing / adding mulch and sod, etc. We've used them for 3+ years now. Every week.

I had some very old (30 years) in line sprinkler valves that decided not to shut off properly. Looked up Martin on Angies List and where he had great reviews. Martin turned up on time for our first appointment and gave me an estimate on the spot. He was a little busy so couldn't do the job right away but said if the existing job finished early he would come around early. He did turn up early and did a great job. He knows what he is doing. Due to the age of the system there was a knock on problem which he resolved as well. I have more work to do and will not hesitate to use him again. Very likeable and engaging person. Pleasure to do business with.

Martin's price is very reasonable and he is pleasant to work with. His work quality is quite high. He installed the new sprinklers and pipe for our backyard and reorganized/fixed the existing watering systems for front yard. He is very professional and gave us good suggestions on how to reorganize the old system. He also fixed a leakage pipe in our old system free of charge. If we have another landscape project in the future, we would definitely work with him again.

Background: When we moved into the new house, we knew the front and back yard will need a lot of love and hard work. The property had not been lived in for a couple of years so there were long grass and weeds everywhere. We knew we needed help. We turned to Angie's list and read up reviews here which led us to Martin. Estimate: He came right on time on the day we scheduled for an estimate. He appeared confident and was a very positive, upbeat person to meet. He truly knows and loves his work. He explained the various types of grass, the ones he thinks will work for our lawns, told us the back yard lawns just needed seeding and not new sod, discussed our ideas for the front yard and came up with an lawn edging idea to match and gave us a fair estimate before leaving. Work: When we did decide to go with him to get the work done, he and his team were on-time, fast, meticulous and clean in their execution. Everything was as expected and better. We got the front and back yard lawns transformed and looking good in no time. They even cut trimmed our trees in the back

We moved into a new house with a backyard overrun with weeds and a non-existent front yard. Martin landscaping laid new front yard lawn, created a beautiful edge to match the front of the house, cleared up weeds in the back, seeded back yard lawns, set up new automatic sprinklers in front and back and do regular lawn maintenance of all lawns once every week for more than a year now.

Martin Gonzalez was a wonderfull business man to deal with. He was honest in all his communications. He always followed - thru with his spoken plans. My yard started out with hard rocky soil, no working irrigation system and a cracked starined concrete driveway. Martin completely transformed my yard to a pardise with new street trees, a colored sanstamped new driveway with mow strips around the lawn. I have blue colored river rock around 2 birch lawn trees, I have fern garden with varoius shades of green. The size of the driveway was expanded so that it is aboput 3 feet wider than before. The straight lines of the old dying lawn were changed to cureved lines. New sod was installed. A new irrigation system was installed with several zones on the watering program. A privacy hedge was planted , and it also has its own watering system. Martin throughly new the businees of landscaping. He has an in- depth knowledge of species of plants and what amount of sun and watering they need. Martin was professional in every way, commuication, knowledge, ethics. Martin was efficeint in the way he managed his crew.

Called to on 1-18-12 to request an estimate for work to be done, left a message. Called again on 1-19-12 left another message in the morning. Called back again on 1-19-12 in the late morning early afternoon and stated that I needed an estimate as I had 2 other estimates and will be awarding the job soon if they did not come back to me. Received a call back from Mr. Gonzalez and set up a meeting at 5:00 PM as he was on another job on the other side of town. Met with Mr. Gonzalez at approximatly 5:00PM (on time) and discussed with my husband and myself on the work that we wanted done. We wanted to have 2 trees downed and ivy removed, including the roots, in a small section of the front side yard, next to the driveway. Mr. Gonzalez quoted me $700.00 to do the work that we requested. We then requested a written estimeate for the work discussed as we needed to evaluate the companies and estimates received. He stated to us that he does not write estimates unless he is awarded the job. We expressed our dissappointment in the answer of not giving written estimates. Mr. Gonzalez then came back to us, that if he wrote estimates to all customers requesting work that he would be in the office all day doing paperwork and not getting work orders done. He stated that his verbal quote was his bond and that if we awarded the job to him he would then write up a contract stating all of the points that we discussed. May I suggest to Mr. Gonzalez that he might carry some blank work order forms with him in his truck so he can write estimates explaining all the procedures and work expectations to the customer, and write "estimate "on the form. Needless to say, Mr. Gonzalez was not awared the job. We chose another company that provided us with all that we asked for, including a written estimate with all procedures and work expectations.

The work was started and completed on time at the agreed upon price. All work was done well. Martin is not a designer, so it's best to have a design for him to work with. I didn't have a design on paper, so we did have one small miscommunication, but he did follow through and make it right. He also had some good ideas of his own.
Description of Work
Martin Gonzales installed pavers by the side of my house and a small side porch made from pavers. He also repaired the front sprinklers, and rewired the front so that it didn't need its own control but could instead be controlled by the same unit that controls the back.

Martin and hs team are amazing. I had three highly recommended landscapers provide proposals and most proposals came in at nearly the same amount. Martin's proposal was higher but he broke out every line item of work which allowed me to eliminate a few line items to bring the project within my budget. I chose Martin because he really knew what would work and not work. His recommendations were right on. The yard is not even complete (plants need to grow in) but the yard looks amazing. They really, really put in allot of hours and also brought the skiploader when they could not break up the old concrete like dirt piles. Again, the yard looks amazing! Martin also discouraged some plants I thought would be great because these plants want shade and when I went to the nursery, the nursery professionals said the same thing. He really know his stuff and I would highly recommend him. The downside is that a recommendation like this makes it more difficult to negotiate a lower rate. All in all, not the lowest cost provider but worth the extra money for lack of hassles, ability to communicate effectively, quality of work, and meeting schedules (caveat --- schedules don't matter when the weather changes). Unlike Yardcrashers, you can't lay sod in 2 days. Martin explained that it takes a week or more to prepare a yard for sod. He was right. They soild needs to be prepared and cultivated for awhile, along with rolled and allowed to settle, then fill again. The result is a yard that is so flat and perfect it looks like a professsional baseball field. Trully gorgeous.
Description of Work
Remove and replace entire lawn (approximately 3000 sq ft), plant couple dozen shrubs and tree, repair sprinkler system and lay down new sprinkler runs and replace sprinkler heads, remove play ground retaining wall and a ton of dirt, relocte boxwood shrubs, clean up and trim all trees and bushes. The service was performed over three weeks (due to rain slowing down sod installation).

He was right on time and was very professional. He told us exactly what he was going to do. He was very forthcoming in telling us that he actually has other jobs and cannot do the work right now. He did schedule and he followed up to tell us when he can do the work.

They did exactly what we had agreed upon. They did come back on last Friday and they are going to be coming back each Friday in this month to do the maintenance work. I spent about $600. It was $500 for the initial cutting, clean up and all that sort of stuff. Then it would be another $100 for the next month. I don’t know if I need that much help, but I certainly needed them for the initial work. They have been fine. I did get another estimate. I decided go with them after the initial contact and discussion on what needed to be done and how it should be done. The guy I dealt with seemed to be quite professional in coming out. He told me what he could do and he asked my advice as well. The whole thing was certainly positive in terms of outlining very clearly what he was going to do and following what he did. The reason I spoke to two people was to get a price. The companies that came out to give me estimates were about the same. I chose Martin not because he was lower of the two, but I felt a bit more confident. His price was in the middle of the range based on the estimates I got. So, I don’t know about their price, but I felt that it was quite moderate based on the tree work that I had done before. The quality and responsiveness were both fine. We had to put it off for a week or so because he told us that he couldn’t come out at that time. Then he arrived on time as he said he would. In fact, he got here before I got up. He was extremely polite and there was no messing around. He looked around when he came out and I felt very confident. The only reason I might draw back a little bit is because I am sort of adjusting right now since I am retired now. I want them to do the slightly higher work for me and they do the ground work as well. I probably might cut back a little bit on the frequency at which they come.
