Big Water Damage Inc

As my studio was flooding, the man I can called to dry out the carpet suggested that his company could come to pack up and store my books and artwork. They showed up very quickly and took 49 boxes of my valuable books away for storage. They had also wanted to take my artwork but I was feeling a little nervous because they pressured me to sign wrinkled paperwork. I called the insurance company who advised me not to sign over payment to Big Water Damage. I let them take my books and they promised to return them on request. But they proceeded to hold them hostage until they received full payment from Farmers Insurance. They held my books ransom in spite of what the insurer's mitigation team at the insurance company told them. Their prices were unbelievably unreasonable. Something like $5000 to take and store my books for two weeks. They didn't bring them back when I needed them causing severe upset as I needed them for a business trip. This is a criminal operation and I would advise you to stay away from them at all costs.

Big Water (specifically Dave the owner and Tony the manager of my project) just completed water damage/mold remediation work on my place. We passed the air sampling tests with a verbal OK from an independent third party (official paperwork backing that up is on the way). The air sampler is well reviewed on Angie's and I'll write his recommendation once I receive the paperwork. Given that we passed our test, I feel confident in submitting this review. The goal of their work was to get us an official clean bill of health and we got it. Additionally, they did everything they said they would do in the estimate (plastic isolation zones, air scrubbers, debris removal, etc., etc.). They also did their work in the timeframe we discussed and were responsive and on time for meetings. There was a bit of scope and fee increase once carpet was removed and the full extent of the problem was identified. They did warn me this could happen. If you want to avoid as many surprises as possible, I'd recommend you ask them to lift up your carpets during the estimating phase. If you really plan to solve your issues, the carpets are coming up anyway (at least temporarily), might as well dive in right at the beginning. This isn't a knock on Big Water. None of the estimators lifted up our carpets. I add this dose of reality to this otherwise good recommendation to give you some wisdom and prove this is a legitimate review. Good luck. No matter who you go with, this process will not be fun. It's like going to the dentist. No fun, but you gotta do it. Do it sooner rather than later. You want both your teeth and your walls to be white, not green. Just bite the bullet and get'er done! One more tip, before you pull the trigger and start work on remediation, figure out basically what's coming out of your place (walls, flooring, etc.) and have a reliable contractor ready to start work a few business days after the mold dudes are supposed to finish up. Give yourself some cushion there and also note that it takes a couple of business days for the air testing results to come back from the lab. While you have a contractor coming, get some fun stuff fixed up at your place, not just the mold.
