Dave and his subs - electricians, plumber, roofer, painter, concrete work, certified welder, sheetrocker - were excellent, excellent, excellent - if I could give them a grade higher than an A, I would. They all often showed up early on site to be sure they could start at 8:00am, they did high quality work, have a very pleasant disposition, cleaned up after themselves, were extremely professional. We have a 4-yr old son and a 3-yr old daughter who enjoyed talking with whomever was on site and everyone was very friendly, very positive and just wonderful to interact with. When obstacles arose, Dave presented options, pricing and his/the subs' recommendation - all straightforward. Everyone also interacted with the City of Palo Alto's inspectors - very professional, rolling with their punches without kavetching. Besides a $1000 retainer, I never had to put up any money up front. Dave was great about detailing his time on a written timecard and gave me copies of his receipts and his subs.
