Enter JAB Construction and Jeff Bressler, the owner. I knew after the first visit that Jeff was someone who knew what he was talking about. I took three bids, and his was in the middle. I chose Jeff because I believed his experience and knowledge would pay off. I was not wrong.
JAB?s crew did everything right. They are some of the friendliest and most customer-focused contractors I have ever worked with. They showed up each day on time, went right to work and were patient, competent and skilled at their craft. They took great care to make sure our finished landscape was protected properly throughout the job and cleaned up well at the end of every day.
As with any big project like this, there are bound to be a few add-ons. Thank goodness I had JAB, because we found a significant dry rot problem during the demolition, which is within their area of expertise. It required work not on the original bid, and Jeff and his foreman were very consultative throughout the process, working through the details and achieving a necessary and cost-effective solution that didn?t break my bank.
Our experience with JAB Construction was fantastic! They are experienced, knowledgeable, responsive, friendly, and always focused on doing the right thing, not the quick thing. They worked well with other contractors I had on the job, as well as the City building inspectors. We will definitely consider them for other big projects in the future.
"He was not sure exactly how he wanted to use the coupon, so I suggested that we make a list of the items on the Job Proposal, I would break out the costs, so he could pick & choose. Some of the work he had on the list was significantly more than the coupon would allow & some of the items were just small fix it items, he selected some of the small items, with the work he selected there was some time left, I told him when he chooses another project we could apply the remaining couple of hours to any other work. To this date we have never heard from him or had any type of contact. We do all types of projects large & small no job is too big or too small. If he felt I was not interested that was not my intention, I was only trying to get down all the information, make suggestions as to how best spend the time on the coupon & some of the work he was suggesting to do would take way more time & materials than the coupon would allow for & he was perfectly clear that he did not want to go over the time allowance & would not pay for additional labor. The work we perform is always to the best of our abilities & we always give a guarantee on our work, but we are licensed General Contractors with liability insurance, workman's compensation insurance & overhead, we are not a handyman company, as I think he thought we were..... I apologize for any misconceptions and we are still willing to return & use the time on another project.... Jeff Bressler, President JAB Construction Company, Ltd."
price from several estimates we had received. We appreciated that the estimate was sufficiently detailed and JAB was
flexible with regard to how we chose to control costs. After obtaining price estimates for floor installation and countertop installation we chose to work with the flooring vendor for floor installation, but went with JAB for countertop installation.
The project was projected to take 2 months. It took a bit longer and in fact there were some surprises along the way. The first
surprise was before JAB started the job. They were scheduled to start on a Tuesday morning. On Monday we confirmed by e-mail that we were still on schedule to start the next day between 8 and 8:30, and we stayed up late emptying cupboards in preparation. Jeff and Geoff arrived at nine the next morning to tell us that they were delayed for a week due to some unplanned
issues on another job. Not a good way to start, especially after we had confirmed the previous day.
Once the work began there were some further surprises. There was dry rot under the removed exterior stucco and a structural beam that wasn?t considered in the original plans that needed to be raised above the ceiling. Those issues were dealt with, working with the architect and the building inspector to ensure structural integrity and code compliance.
Communication was sometimes a problem. There were times when I couldn?t reach Jeff by email or phone. Synchronization
between JAB and the cabinet contractor was unclear. Electrical layout and directions to the electrician was poorly coordinated. The electrical contractor had to make multiple visits to complete a simple job. Although we had provided clear
specifics on the countertop selection, the countertop slab was not ordered until the cabinets were completely installed resulting in a delay of several days. The existing sink was determined to be incompatible with the new countertops only a few days before planned countertop installation, requiring a rush to find a new sink.
In the end we got exactly the kitchen that we wanted with very good workmanship. The project took a few weeks longer than planned, but some surprises did arise. The project could have been conducted in a more coordinated and efficient process, but
perhaps that is just part of working with contractors who are running multiple simultaneous projects. We would
consider hiring JAB again considering the quality of the end result, but we?d have somewhat altered expectations.
I would recommend him wholeheartedly to do major or minor renos.
I contacted 4-5 construction companies and each one had one or the other views about the problem. Most of them wanted to perform some repairs and provided estimates. Then, I called JAB Construction. Jeff answered the call and wanted to check it out right away. He was very courteous, punctual and most importantly honest in expressing his views about the problem. He asked me questions to understand the history of the issue, checked inside & outside of the home and concluded that there is nothing wrong with the structure / foundation. I had a bed in the affected area and he suggested that someone have spilled water / something which might have caused the issue and suggested to wait sometime and see if the issue reoccurs. He offered that if I'm too concerned, engage a hardwood floor guy to take out the wood floor to check the problem.
He was so logical and explained me in layman terms. I was very much relieved with his analysis and decided to wait.
I would definitely engage him for my future needs.
The owner of JAB was extremely helpful during our selection process for the new granite countertops and the kitchen cabinetry. His suggestions where to go and what to look for were extremely helpful in our making quality decisions in a cost effective manner. We really appreciated his wanting to assure that we were completely happy with the final product.
Even thoiugh we rated JAB a "B" for punctuality, there was enough blame to go around for the slight delay in the finished product(i.e.cabinets were backordered and not delivered on time, we were slow in selecting the countertops). The project was to take 2 weeks but actually took about 3 and a half weeks. We were made aware of the problems as the project progress and the company expedited the work as quickly as possible. The job personnel were committed to our jobsite during the process and were not shifted away for other work.
All in all, this was an excellent job experience for us. We highly recommend JAB without reservations.
The worker, Perfecto, was incredibly meticulous and very clean. We were very happy with his level of care.
The only issue we encountered was having to go to the hardware store 5 different times for parts as needed. Since this was an older property that was not maintained well by the previous owner, we kept encountering different issues. Still, Perfecto was patient and made sure we knew what he needed to get the job done.
We will definitely keep them in mind for future projects.
GREAT JOB GUYS! THANKS!
Jeff did a good job accessing the project and seemed knowledgeable. Bid was reasonable, but not the lowest
He returned with his on site supervisor before the project was to begin and we reviewed all tasks.
These were all written down
Ont the day the project was to begin, a crew of 3 showed up, but neither Jeff now his supervisor were there
They crew did NOT know what to do. I had to re-explain the project.
I the process of preparing the master bedroom for painting they broke a piece of furniture.
They claimed this was not their responsibility. I was able to repair it
I tried to reach both Jeff and the supervisor without success until late in the day
The crew left the site.
Although Jeff offered to make things right, I went with another vendor, who was excellent
Fortunately Jeff had not picked up the deposit, so I did not loose cash.
I did waste a good deal of time
I would not use JAB for any work
"Our Clinets and their satisfaction are always are first priority, we value our clients time, opinion and try to solve any issues and work with them. Unfortunately this is not the case in this incident, first & foremost, I never met or dealt with the member, I only met with the other member on the initial visit, I spoke with him to arange the job & the particulars and dealt with him when there was an issue. We arranged to start the project on a Saturday (before Thanksgiving) to work with their schedule, I explained to him I will not be available until late on Saturday, but my foreman and workmen would be on site. They arrived as scheduled, there was furniture that had to be moved to paint the master bedroom. Apparently the bed frame was damaged due to it being improperly assembled while they tried to move it. After this happened the crew was instructed to leave, so they left. I spoke with him late in the afternoon, I expressed my appologies for any incoinvience and tried to re-scheduel for myself to be present & make sure there were no issues for the work to get done & I offered to repair the bed frame. I E-Mail him 3 times never had a response. Finally after over a week, I received the following e-mail response: (this was pasted from his e-mail response to me) Hi Jeff, Thank you for your continued interest in the project. We have decided to go with another vendor -Member All I can say is you can’t please everyone, but we sure try too…… My apologies to the members"
Jeff's crew and subs are top notch. They are very conscientious, responsive and take pride in their work. They treated my elderly father with dignity, which I really appreciated. When I found certain things that were not done correctly or that needed touch ups, Jeff and his peeps responded quickly.
I think the only major issue we ran into was that the medicine cabinet ended up not being recessed as I had requested, but it was not the end of the world. The end product was still very nice.
I have already recommended Jeff to some very good friends of mine who are imminently closing on their first home. I will definitely recommend him to others!
"We are always glad to help, sometimes to permit process takes time to get thru. Glad the job went smoothly for our client......."
"Great client, the job had many issues with previous construction defects, clients were easy to work with, the job turned out beautiful!!!!!!!"
