I took the laptop computer to the Computer Country office which was not far from where I live.  The owner was very personable and easy to talk to.  She immediately identified the problem as a computer virus and indicated she could fix the problem and try to recover as much of the computer contents as possible.  She called later and said she was able to recover certain files for one of the computer users but not for the other user.  The work was completed in a reasonable time frame and I picked up the computer and brought it home.  However, later I realized that many things were not as I had initially expected they would be.  Apparently the Windows Vista operating system had been compromised by the problem and needed to be replaced.  The computer now has a Vista operating system, but Windows continually reminds me that it is not an authorized version, but no longer reminds me and does the regular Windows updates that would presumably occur with an authorized version of Vista.  Also, all the computer programs that were originally on the computer were lost.  The anti-virus program that was installed during the service is a freeware program that seems inferior to the one I had on the PC before.  While possibly some of these things may not have been correctable due to the initial problem with the computer, the possible fixes, and the price for the service, I feel that these kind of issues should have been explained to me more clearly during the overall process.
Response from COMPUTER COUNTRY INC
"We reinstalled Windows Vista licensing it with the customer's license number on their Windows sticker; however, we are, as are other repair facilities, that are recent viruses that affect the SLC-Software Licensing Service and return this false reading. Should the customer have notified us, we would have fixed this right away at no charge as there is a patch/fix for this. I do not sell anti-virus and all of our repairs leave the facility with a free version of a software we feel best fits the system; we do not guarantee the computer will be forever free of new viruses due to constant introduction of new virus definitions. Finally, I explained to the customer that while we would make every attempt to back up data-Favorites, Documents, Desktop, files and folders, we would be unable to mirror the drive to save installed programs as the system was infected with a virus and we would simply be moving the infected image to the new installation. Customer unfortunately expected everything to be exactly as it was before; we did more than alot of facilities who would have simply wiped the system along with personal data. Our other Angie's List reviews/reports as well as those on other websites demonstrate that we continually go above and beyond services that a lot of our peers provide to give our customers the least amount of downtime/readjustment time. We would have been happy to reinstall software, if provided by the customer, for a small additional fee, if requested. The customer promptly paid and if he was unhappy, declined to contact us and make us aware of any issues and allow us the opportunity to rectify any problems."

Lorie Ann was wonderful. When I brought in the computers she gave me an idea of what the potential problems may be and an idea of the cost of the repair.  On the computer with the charging problem, she warned me on the usual problems with toshiba charging ports and to consider whether or not I wanted to spend that amount to fix it.  I felt no pressure from her to get it fixed.  Very honest and knowledgeable. The second computer that was fixed is working great. This is not the first time I have used this company and I will use them again.

I have done a number of computer repairs myself over the years but, since this was a small form factor computer, I didn't want to go through the trouble of replacing the power supply. The computer had been circling the drain for a couple of weeks but it finally failed. I found this company (via web search and Angie's List confirmation) that morning and called to give them a brief overview of my problem. I was able to bring it in later that morning. Computer was completely fixed in 4 hours. I picked it up, took it home, and started where I had left off. Given the price of the hardware he replaced and the additional service provided, I was very happy with the cost and service.

Excellent work. He found viruses that had been missed by my protection software. He found the reason the wireless had been disabled and fixed it. He removed or shut off programs that were running in the background and hogging space. He was in and out in about an hour and charged his fees as quoted over the phone.

COMPUTER COUNTRY WAS VERY EFFICIENT IN TAKING CARE OF MY PROBLEMS WITH MY EXISTING COMPUTER. THEY CLEANED UP ALL THE VIRUSES AND PUT IN SOME PROTECTIVE DEVICE AGAINST THE VIRUSES. THEY WERE ABLE TO MAKE A HOUSE CALL TO MY WORK AT 6AM IN THE MORNING TO HELP TRANSFER MY GOLD MINE PROGRAM OVER TO ANOTHER COMPUTER.
