Luggage Repair, Leather and Vinyl Repair
$33
The suitcase repair was satisfactory, it seemed a minor straight forward job. i just wished he would have used something better than very cheap pulls that are smaller and quite flimsy compared to the others on the suitcase. When I brought it in, he went: why don't you just buy a new one? Me (thinking): come on! It's a couple years old, nothing wrong with it, looks good and Macy sells it right now for around $ 200 on sale! Anyway, he agreed eventually that this job should be a piece of cake. That day and at pickup time as well, I noticed that this guy has an attitude, period.
The purse was an expensive Swiss designer piece in good shape, but the strap was brittle in several places.I agreed that he would cut out the fragile sections and sew the strong parts together. The result was so-so. He missed one area, the fixed sections were a bit iffy, and he said I should not bend the strap there. Hmm, it's supposed to hang from the shoulder... Anyway, he claimed the leather was just dry, and 'convinced' me that it'll do for now.
It'll do--is not very compelling for a reason to go back...
The amount he ran on the credit card was 80 cents more than the quoted price, and when I asked what was up with that, he mumbled something about Burbank city tax....and besides it's only 80 cents. Ah, that certainly makes it right...right? I didn't say that, but thought it.
I picked the store because of good reviews, well maybe this wasn't the owner himself, or the guy has been having troubles on his mind, or he's sick and tired of doing this kind of work, or...whatever reason that I did not get to experience this service at it's best, next time, and for bigger jobs, I'll try another place.

He replaced a broken handle, a broken zipper, and also fixed a leather watch band on the spot. Clean work, good work!

Since I've been to this vendor (who also does shoe repair and makes keys) several times, I'll describe my experiences: 1) I had a broken zipper fixed on a suitcase. 2) I brought in a pair of ballet flats that were giving me blisters at the back of my ankles, and the owner pounded the leather so that they no longer hurt. 3) I also brought in a vinyl bag and had the handle reinforced. Depending on how complicated the job is, it takes a few days, but they are really reasonable.
