Initially it did not go well.  The worker that they sent out took one look and the floor in the living room and said he couldn't do the work.  Problem is that the work was being done in one of the bedrooms.  When he looked at the floor in there he again said he couldn't do a thing for us.
My husband immediately called the owner and told him how rude and unwilling is employee was.  We were not expecting a miracle to be performed.  We just wanted them to do what they could with the floors.  The owner then sent another gentlemen out to our house.  That guys name was Chris.  Chris was AWESOME!  He took one look at the floor and said he could totally do something to it to make it look better.  And that is exactly what he did!  He was quick, professional and knew what he was doing.  He was very polite as he needed to go in and out of the house.  He did an INCREDIBLE job on the floor.  It looked brand new when it was done.  We were so happy.
The only negative to report on the actual work is that the floor is a bit rough.  We believe it could have been cleaned up better before it was sealed.  It feels like there is dust under sealant (bumpy).
We would absolutely recommend this company as long as they send Chris and guys like him out on the jobs.

We had a slab leak (which seems to be a fairly common occurrence in Southern California) and our beautiful hardwood floor was ruined.  Fortunately, it was covered by our homeowners insurance, and our insurance company was fine with us using our own contractor.

We went with McPherson Hardwood because we have used them twice in the past (they installed the original floor) and they left a lasting impression.  This time they removed the damaged floor, and installed the new one with all the transitions and moldings.

It was the same drill this time around, the work was done quickly, in the time estimated, and it came out perfectly.  They were able to get it done within the budget of my insurance settlement, and the guys were easy to deal with, very professional and friendly.

I have now had two great experiences with Michael McPherson and Bamboo 2000.  In about 2004, Mike put bamboo floors in 3 large rooms of our home and stairs going to the lower level.  The floors of my living and dining rooms had lots of leveling problems due to a fire in that  portion of the house prior to us owning it.  He dealt with this effortlessly and we have never had a problem.
The floors are still beautiful and we love them.  They really make our modern house look spectacular.  Mike recommended I put bamboo on the stairs and am I ever glad. Had we left carpet there, the impact of our house would be greatly diminished, plus it would be an on-going cleaning problem.
We have stone tiles at the base of our fireplace, maybe slate.  Instead of butting the bamboo up against them and adding a ¼ round, Mike suggested and took the extra step to trim the tile and put the bamboo under the tile.  It is a detail like this that I would not have thought of, but enhances the look dramatically.  It was an imaginative and clever solution to something I didn?t realize was a problem.  He didn?t charge us extra ? he just did it and did it perfectly.
I called Mike back because we had a termite problem a corner of the dining room (where the roof had leaked). The termites ate up through the plywood and then partially out one bamboo board.  My termite guy said it was due to moisture.  Mike came in, neatly removed some of the bamboo so we could get to the plywood with the problem so the termite exterminator could treat it.  Afterwards, Mike replaced that area with new bamboo.  The standard width of the boards has changed since our original installation, so milling was involved.  Beautiful job and the price was more than fair.
I may get my husband?s office done with strand bamboo and will certainly give Mike a call.
I like these guys and am very comfortable having them in our home.   I have only had 2 companies do major work on the house that I can recommend completely without reservation ? Bamboo 2000 is one of them and our stucco guy is the other.

I had one of my two bedroom floors sanded and refinished under a Big Deal, and was very satisfied with both the work and the service. Wow, what a difference!  The Big Deal included up to 100 sq. ft of flooring and two coats of sealer/finish, and specified the cost for any additional square footage (which was a courteous touch).  The house was built in 1950, and the bedroom floors had the original [dark, chipped and worn] finish.  Because the previous owners had added travertine tiles to the hallway, there was a ¾? step-down into the bedroom.
Mike came out in advance and surveyed the room. We agreed they?d sand the floor and closet, do two coats of finish, and (for a slightly extra cost) add a transition between the hallway, and the bedroom.  My room was slightly larger than the Big Deal covered, so we agreed on the additional cost.  We also agreed that I would remove and replace the shoe molding around the room, so I could replace/repaint it as I chose (I?m fairly handy).
I mentioned I hoped to have it done over an upcoming three-day weekend.  At first Mike indicated that Saturdays were iffy, but all of a sudden on a Thursday, he emailed me that they?d like to do the work that Saturday.  This gave me just two evenings to clear the room and remove the shoe molding, but I got it done.
On that Saturday, Chris came by.  He sanded the floor, then put two coats of finish on the floor, with a bit of drying time between.  He used a waterbased finish because of California VOC laws.  The plan was for all their work to be finished on one day.
Although the floor was old, there were no stains or spots, so it didn?t need any repairs.
The next day, when the finish had a chance to dry, I realized the grain of the wood had raised, giving a rough surface.  This sometimes happens with waterbased finishes.  I called Mike to alert him the floor needed to be lightly resanded and another coat of finish applied.  He assured me he would fix the problem at no additional cost to me.
Mike was true to his word: the installer he sent out not only resanded the floor lightly, but gave it another damp swipe to raise any grain that hadn?t surfaced earlier.  He sanded again, and put a nice coat of finish.  I let it dry, and it looks and feels wonderful and beautiful.
I didn?t have the floor stained, so I wouldn?t have to worry about matching it to the other bedroom later.  The clear finish turned out to be just perfect, since the floor was red oak and has its own warmth.
I would add that Mike seems to be most accessible via text/email.  He responded much faster to those messages than to voicemail calls.

We used this contractor to put in hardwood flooring on our ground floor about two years ago.  We were very pleased with the experience and it was a no brainer to call them again for some additional work.  This time, they refinished the oak flooring upstairs that was here when we bought the house and looking very worn.  I expected some improvement, but was pleasantly surprised by just how much better it looked!

Then, they replaced the carpeted stairs with hardwood to match the downstairs wood they had installed in 2011.  The whole job came out beautifully and was done in a timely and professional matter.  They are very straight forward, not a lot of ups & extras, both times I have used them, the price quoted is the price I paid.  They made it as painless a process as possible and I will continue to use them for all my upgrades & refinishes.

McPherson Hardwood flooring is versatile and flexible in installing imported wood floor that they are not accustom to installing which is great. We went with an eco-friendly and environmentally responsible wood floor company from Canada as our preferred wood floor material. Alfonso was the sole installer for the job. Alfonso was a great wood floor installer and he would be even better if he had someone to assist him on the job. Reason is he struggled with the movement of our stove and refrigerator. He did the best he could but he definitely needs an assistant. He did a few extra's such as removing and re-installing our baseboards which was awesome. One missed item was the quarter rounds in the kitchen which he did not install as promised after the major work was done. I ended up finishing up the quarter rounds myself.
Overall I rate this company a "B". An "A" if two men worked and if they followed through with the minor tasks (quarter rounds).

On Saturday May 30th, Mike came to my home to discuss what I wanted and possible options. He took very detailed measurements of each room. He sold me on the bamboo strand flooring since it is harder and will hold up better to my two dogs. He also suggested putting in bamboo toe kicks under the kitchen cabinets which i didn't even know was possible.
Out of the 3 companies i had give me estimates, he was the only one to leave me a sample of the flooring which was nice. Over the next couple of days I kept placing it in the different parts of the house to see how it looks.
The following Monday, he emailed me a detailed estimate. He broke out the additional cost for the hallway and hallway closets. I appreciated being able to see the details.
On Wednesday 4/17, the work stared in the afternoon with ripping out all the old carpeting. His crew was very conscientious. We had packed up and moved everything we could out of the area the work was being done. We couldn't move the sectional or left our TV mounted on the way. The worker who started the job, very carefully covered our flat panel TV with plastic and taped it up to prevent any dust getting on the TV. He also covered the sectional.
On Thursday 4/18, Chris and Mike replaced the sub-floor in the kitchen and finished prepping the other rooms.
On Friday 4/19, Chris started installing the flooring. He was extremely detailed in the work he did. You could tell he took a lot of pride in his work. When he created the toe kicks for the kitchen, before gluing them into place he had me take a looks to make sure the fit was good. Chris finished the main living area and kitchen on Friday.
On Saturday 4/20, Chris finished the hallway and hallway closets. Mike came and completed all baseboards and completed the final clean-up.
We totally love our new flooring. It looks absolutely fantastic.

This job was complicated by a number of factors.  There were two phases.  The first phase was removal and installation of the new floor.  Everything went smoothly until the last day of the job when the toilet overflowed and destroyed about 30% of the project.  Workers in the upstairs unit were responsible for clogging the plumbing and damaging the new floor.  Besides the expected delay of sorting all of this out with the insurance companies and the upstairs neighbor, the factory was behind on the particular product we used.  It took several weeks.  Throughout it all, the contractor was patient, understanding and professional throughout.  The floor was completed and is beautiful.  We are very pleased with the service and the workmanship.

Overall, they did a great job, were fast and efficient.
One thing that needs improvement would be more professional billing for clients, such as a card reader that a worker can swipe on the job instead of writing out personal checks to the owner/workers.

We called Mike and I chatted with him for a bit and described our small project : remove carpets from 3 closest and match existing bamboo.  We had a box of bamboo left over so Mike made sure to purchase additional material that was identical.  Usually this results in a total mess but it went off without a hitch.  As Mike was very busy and it was a small job, he asked me to send photos to him via email, which I did.  The installer (Chris) came out to check out the job site and once he saw he could complete all the work in one sitting he started immediately.  The work quality is very solid.  Craftsmanship is excellent.  We are really happy with the work and professionalism shown throughout the job.  Mike fit us in around our hectic schedule and his availability.  Cheers!

We found Michael McPherson and his team's work excellent and we plan on using him again to repair and resurface our 50 year old original cork floors. On this job, extending and restaining parquet floors, there were several difficult and unexpected problems to solve.  None involved the precision with which they exactly matched the original hand cut floor tiles with red and white oak so that the stain would take evenly or when they laid the new floor down and made sure there was a seamless transition between the old and the new.    However, staining hard oak the dark color we requested with uniform saturation was extremely difficult.  It  required much repeated sanding and testing.  And even after all that preparation, when an area did not come out exactly as planned, there was never any hesitancy by Mike or his team to re do it until it was all perfect.  We greatly appreciate this kind of attention to detailed craftsmanship Michael supplies.   Home renovation involves much unpredictability and having craftsman who will work and bend with the arising needs of the project are hard to come by.  We are genuinely pleased with the results and the effort Mike took to get us there.

Michael McPherson was on time to our appointment to give me an estimate.  I showed him a couple of bad gouges that the previous tenants' moving company made removing a sofa from the apartment.  I told him I wanted to be sure that the floors in the areas being redone, matched the remaining hardwood floors of this high end apartment.

When I came to check out the job to be sure it was completed to my standards, I was disappointed to see a color difference in the areas that needed a heavy sanding to remove the gouges.  I was not happy so I called the office.  They sent Alfonzo Perez to meet me at the apartment the following morning at 8am.  He was waiting for me when I arrived.  He agreed with me and said he would send another crew the next day.  Alfonzo then called me that afternoon and said that due to the age of the building (1910) that the wood of the floors had darkened and that they would need to sand and refinish all of the hardwood of the 900 sq. ft. apartment.  At this point Alfonzo said he would to the work himself.  They did this with no extra charges and the floors ended up looking beautiful.

I was very happy with the end result and that they never  once mentioned to charge me more.  They were more interested in me being a satisfied customer.  I am a very satisfied customer.

McPherson is the owner of the company.  They were very good.  They showed up on time.  They did a great job of putting in the floors.  They listened to me and they were patient with me as I was changing my mind with the choice of colors.  They made me feel comfortable with what I had chosen.  They really helped me.  They were very good people.  I really enjoyed working with them.  I would definitely use them again in the future.

My hardwood floor was very damaged in a few areas (urine stains from a pet), but otherwise in very good shape.  I was hoping to avoid an entire new floor, and just replace the damaged areas, but didn't think that would be possible.  Mike suggested that, since the flooring was already so thin, he could replace the bad areas, sand down the rest of the floor as much as possible and cover everything with new hardwood.  This worked out great - because the floor did not have to be ripped out and disposed of, there was much less time involved, not to mention noise and dust. I now have an entire new floor for almost $2,000 less than other quotes. Chris & Alonzo did the whole job in three days, and were thoroughly professional and pleasant. They moved all the furniture very carefully and placed (or replaced) the felt pads on EVERYTHING, and cleaned up after themselves completely every day.  The floor looks fantastic, as does the newly painted base. When they moved the washer/dryer unit, they discovered a small leak which they brought to my attention immediately.  I thought I might have to stop work on the floor to accommodate the plumber, but Chris and Alonzo managed to work around him very well!. Mike's carpet guy was also prompt, professional and friendly and took care to get the transition spaces from the hardwood hallways to the carpeted bedrooms entirely stapled down and smoothed out.  I would unequivocally recommend Mike, Chris and Alonzo for any work on hardwood flooring.

We decided to replace our carpet downstairs with a beautiful Brazilian Cherry hardwood floor. Mike and the crew from Bamboo 2000/McPherson Hardwood arrived and started pulling up the carpet while I went to work. About an hour later, Mike called to advise me of a unforeseen moisture issue. The south wall of my house serves as a border between my property and my neighbors, and that was where the moisture was. Mike told me he couldn’t begin putting the floor down with the existing moisture and asked me to come back to the house. When I got home, I found Mike at my neighbor’s house explaining the problem. Evidently, they had violated a city code by adding dirt to their landscape up against my wall, not leaving the required clearance. I had no way of knowing this because there is no visibility from my yard to that spot. Besides, I didn’t even know there was such a code, or its importance. Mike was able to explain to them that the dirt being up against my wall like that would cause damage to the new floor, and possibly cause mold issues as well. Luckily, they understood the problem and agreed to have the dirt lowered to its required level. Mike even expedited that procedure as he has seen this type of problem before and recommended someone to them for that job. It took about a week for that problem to be corrected, then they started work back on my floors. It was a two day process, the first day was spent grinding my concrete slab and then a moisture barrier was put down. The crew returned the next day to lay the actual wood. The floor came out perfectly and Mike gave me some tips on keeping it that way. What really was irreplaceable thou was the problem detection and solving. The ability to go above and beyond really means a lot. By alerting me to the problem, his schedule had to change and I’m sure it cost him a lot of headaches. I don’t think all contractors would handle things the same way, the right way. Had this moisture issue not been addressed, they tell me the wood would have warped fairly soon, ruining the new floor. I look at contractors the same way I look at mechanics, if you can find one you trust it makes your life so much easier. The guys are Bamboo 2000/McPherson Hardwood have proven to me they are worthy of trust, they will do all my future work and I strongly recommend them to everyone!

mike did an excellent job for us. truly. he totally invested himself in helping us find the right floor for us. he totally got all our concerns about keeping it green and clean chemically. he was knowledgeable and generous with his time. his floors came out fantastically and he had some weird specific challenges posed by our rooms that he worked around very well. he was flexible and always reachable, even came in one day on a moment's notice to help us out. ultimately we spent more than we wanted to bc we chose much pricier floors than we had intended and also he had to work more than expected to deal with some particulars and so things kept adding up but that was really not his fault in any way. overall a fantastic experience and i would send everyone and anyone to mike. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

My husband and I decided after much research on hardwood floors to choose strand woven bamboo for our remodel project. I found Bamboo 2000 through Angie's list and the reviews were really positive. Compared to other bids and other contractors/project managers, Mike and Chris knew quite a ton more about bamboo. Their years of working with bamboo and their knowledge of bamboo were very sound as I asked a grip of questions. Mike has even traveled to China to learn the manufacturing process of bamboo. Many contractors previously were not "specialized" in bamboo persay. They definitely SPECIALIZE and know bamboo! When I first called Mike, he was in Germany. He was prompt in getting back to me inspite of being overseas. He sent Chris to do a bid and Chris had a lot of expertise as well. In spite of wanting to work with Mike and Chris, I set up the proejct with another contractor due to the time constraint we had and a fairly good bottom line price. A few days before that project, they brought over the bamboo. My husband and I found it was the WRONG shade and so we ended up cancelling the project and returning their bamboo to them. The company did not have the desired color and would not have that shade for awhile. Quite frustrating! At that point, Mike was back in the country and could begin work on our place. After explaining what happened with the previous contractor, Mike was really attentive and set out to do research to make sure we received the right bamboo. He did an excellent job researching and working within our price range to find what we were looking for. They worked out a great price with my husband and I. They were very careful to itemize their quote of services and products, so I could see where their bottom line number was coming from. They described in detail how they would install the floors. It helped that they were the general contractors and so they definitely could tell me exactly what they would do. There was no subcontracted crew - it was Mike setting up the project and Mike and Chris doing the actual project. They were very meticulous with the details and did not cut corners. They were very conscientious of our neighbors (though one was pretty angry at them, they handled it well). They worked efficiently and were helpful in moving our furniture. They even took time to put on the felt piece on the legs of ALL of our furniture for those rooms. I was impressed that at the end of it all, Mike showed a lot of integrity with his work. He did not shop for the lowest quality bamboo, but took price and quality into consideration. He was pretty upfront with things that were out of his control, i.e. the time it would take to prep the concrete, the specific shade MAY not be perfectly what i envision it (though it ended up being awesome), etc. Ultimately, Mike and Chris were extremely professional and personable throughout the whole process. They were really friendly. My husband and I really had fun chatting it up with them too! They are really funny, lighthearted guys! During the process, they even brought in a contractor who works with carpet to be sure to install the best looking transitions between our bamboo floors and the carpet. Smart move! Their carpet guy was also professional and did a fabulous job. The project spanned 4 days, which turned out just fine. We ended up having to cut one of their work days short because we had an event at our place. They were willing to work with us and finished the floors in time for the event. They returned the next day to finish out the transitions and base shoes. When they job was finished, as I mentioned, they helped us set up our furniture with proper protection. They talked to us about maintenance of the floors and they were just all around really comprehensive with what they did and what they communicated to us. Ihad lots of questions during the project and they didn't seem to mind at all. The only slight setback was with punctuality in the mornings, but it was really minor and it worked out better in the end for us. A week has passed. We are SO happy with our floors. They are beautiful! They really make our space feel larger and the space is really opened up. We're so thankful we went with strand woven bamboo. Having a dog, we really wanted something that would stand up to some pet wear-and-tear.The strand woven bamboo definitely holds up tough as nails and the finish is amazing. I recommend strand woven completely. We had a carbonized light shade and it worked with our darker espresso furniture and light green walls. Grateful for Bamboo2000!

It went great! Mike and his crew always showed up on time and did exactly what they said they would do. Mike was concerned about our floors being so old that they didn't have much sanding left in them, so he was really careful about not being too aggressive on the sanding. He patched the spot where the furnace grill was with some old pieces of flooring we had left from another project and it blends perfectly, You can't even tell it was there. His crew, Alphonso and Chris, were friendly and polite. They cleaned up every day. Mike really knows what he is doing. The finish is beautiful and I highly recommend his services.

Everything went really well. They had 3 days to install 1100 sq. ft of flooring because of our move-in schedule. They did it in the 3 days, and at a very high quality. Since we were pleased with the flooring, we asked them to do the molding throughout the house.
