My husband immediately called the owner and told him how rude and unwilling is employee was. We were not expecting a miracle to be performed. We just wanted them to do what they could with the floors. The owner then sent another gentlemen out to our house. That guys name was Chris. Chris was AWESOME! He took one look at the floor and said he could totally do something to it to make it look better. And that is exactly what he did! He was quick, professional and knew what he was doing. He was very polite as he needed to go in and out of the house. He did an INCREDIBLE job on the floor. It looked brand new when it was done. We were so happy.
The only negative to report on the actual work is that the floor is a bit rough. We believe it could have been cleaned up better before it was sealed. It feels like there is dust under sealant (bumpy).
We would absolutely recommend this company as long as they send Chris and guys like him out on the jobs.
We had a slab leak (which seems to be a fairly common occurrence in Southern California) and our beautiful hardwood floor was ruined. Fortunately, it was covered by our homeowners insurance, and our insurance company was fine with us using our own contractor.
We went with McPherson Hardwood because we have used them twice in the past (they installed the original floor) and they left a lasting impression. This time they removed the damaged floor, and installed the new one with all the transitions and moldings.
It was the same drill this time around, the work was done quickly, in the time estimated, and it came out perfectly. They were able to get it done within the budget of my insurance settlement, and the guys were easy to deal with, very professional and friendly.
The floors are still beautiful and we love them. They really make our modern house look spectacular. Mike recommended I put bamboo on the stairs and am I ever glad. Had we left carpet there, the impact of our house would be greatly diminished, plus it would be an on-going cleaning problem.
We have stone tiles at the base of our fireplace, maybe slate. Instead of butting the bamboo up against them and adding a ¼ round, Mike suggested and took the extra step to trim the tile and put the bamboo under the tile. It is a detail like this that I would not have thought of, but enhances the look dramatically. It was an imaginative and clever solution to something I didn?t realize was a problem. He didn?t charge us extra ? he just did it and did it perfectly.
I called Mike back because we had a termite problem a corner of the dining room (where the roof had leaked). The termites ate up through the plywood and then partially out one bamboo board. My termite guy said it was due to moisture. Mike came in, neatly removed some of the bamboo so we could get to the plywood with the problem so the termite exterminator could treat it. Afterwards, Mike replaced that area with new bamboo. The standard width of the boards has changed since our original installation, so milling was involved. Beautiful job and the price was more than fair.
I may get my husband?s office done with strand bamboo and will certainly give Mike a call.
I like these guys and am very comfortable having them in our home. I have only had 2 companies do major work on the house that I can recommend completely without reservation ? Bamboo 2000 is one of them and our stucco guy is the other.
Mike came out in advance and surveyed the room. We agreed they?d sand the floor and closet, do two coats of finish, and (for a slightly extra cost) add a transition between the hallway, and the bedroom. My room was slightly larger than the Big Deal covered, so we agreed on the additional cost. We also agreed that I would remove and replace the shoe molding around the room, so I could replace/repaint it as I chose (I?m fairly handy).
I mentioned I hoped to have it done over an upcoming three-day weekend. At first Mike indicated that Saturdays were iffy, but all of a sudden on a Thursday, he emailed me that they?d like to do the work that Saturday. This gave me just two evenings to clear the room and remove the shoe molding, but I got it done.
On that Saturday, Chris came by. He sanded the floor, then put two coats of finish on the floor, with a bit of drying time between. He used a waterbased finish because of California VOC laws. The plan was for all their work to be finished on one day.
Although the floor was old, there were no stains or spots, so it didn?t need any repairs.
The next day, when the finish had a chance to dry, I realized the grain of the wood had raised, giving a rough surface. This sometimes happens with waterbased finishes. I called Mike to alert him the floor needed to be lightly resanded and another coat of finish applied. He assured me he would fix the problem at no additional cost to me.
Mike was true to his word: the installer he sent out not only resanded the floor lightly, but gave it another damp swipe to raise any grain that hadn?t surfaced earlier. He sanded again, and put a nice coat of finish. I let it dry, and it looks and feels wonderful and beautiful.
I didn?t have the floor stained, so I wouldn?t have to worry about matching it to the other bedroom later. The clear finish turned out to be just perfect, since the floor was red oak and has its own warmth.
I would add that Mike seems to be most accessible via text/email. He responded much faster to those messages than to voicemail calls.
We used this contractor to put in hardwood flooring on our ground floor about two years ago. We were very pleased with the experience and it was a no brainer to call them again for some additional work. This time, they refinished the oak flooring upstairs that was here when we bought the house and looking very worn. I expected some improvement, but was pleasantly surprised by just how much better it looked!
Then, they replaced the carpeted stairs with hardwood to match the downstairs wood they had installed in 2011. The whole job came out beautifully and was done in a timely and professional matter. They are very straight forward, not a lot of ups & extras, both times I have used them, the price quoted is the price I paid. They made it as painless a process as possible and I will continue to use them for all my upgrades & refinishes.
Overall I rate this company a "B". An "A" if two men worked and if they followed through with the minor tasks (quarter rounds).
Out of the 3 companies i had give me estimates, he was the only one to leave me a sample of the flooring which was nice. Over the next couple of days I kept placing it in the different parts of the house to see how it looks.
The following Monday, he emailed me a detailed estimate. He broke out the additional cost for the hallway and hallway closets. I appreciated being able to see the details.
On Wednesday 4/17, the work stared in the afternoon with ripping out all the old carpeting. His crew was very conscientious. We had packed up and moved everything we could out of the area the work was being done. We couldn't move the sectional or left our TV mounted on the way. The worker who started the job, very carefully covered our flat panel TV with plastic and taped it up to prevent any dust getting on the TV. He also covered the sectional.
On Thursday 4/18, Chris and Mike replaced the sub-floor in the kitchen and finished prepping the other rooms.
On Friday 4/19, Chris started installing the flooring. He was extremely detailed in the work he did. You could tell he took a lot of pride in his work. When he created the toe kicks for the kitchen, before gluing them into place he had me take a looks to make sure the fit was good. Chris finished the main living area and kitchen on Friday.
On Saturday 4/20, Chris finished the hallway and hallway closets. Mike came and completed all baseboards and completed the final clean-up.
We totally love our new flooring. It looks absolutely fantastic.
One thing that needs improvement would be more professional billing for clients, such as a card reader that a worker can swipe on the job instead of writing out personal checks to the owner/workers.
When I came to check out the job to be sure it was completed to my standards, I was disappointed to see a color difference in the areas that needed a heavy sanding to remove the gouges. I was not happy so I called the office. They sent Alfonzo Perez to meet me at the apartment the following morning at 8am. He was waiting for me when I arrived. He agreed with me and said he would send another crew the next day. Alfonzo then called me that afternoon and said that due to the age of the building (1910) that the wood of the floors had darkened and that they would need to sand and refinish all of the hardwood of the 900 sq. ft. apartment. At this point Alfonzo said he would to the work himself. They did this with no extra charges and the floors ended up looking beautiful.
I was very happy with the end result and that they never once mentioned to charge me more. They were more interested in me being a satisfied customer. I am a very satisfied customer.
