We got our roof replaced in October 2011 by Skycraft Roofing. Using Skycraft Roofing was the only decision we have regretted in choosing contractors to do work on our home. The only reason I am giving them a D grade as opposed to an F grade is the fact that we know that they have at least one decent, competent crew who replaced my mother-in-law's roof with no problems. Unfortunately, we did not get the same crew. Our crew did shoddy work and had sloppy work habits and unfortunately were not supervised by Aaron, the foreman in charge of the job, or by the owners of the company. When we came home the first day, even I noticed that a piece of wood they had put up at the front of the house had the rough side out, right next to a piece that had the smooth side out. All together they had 4 pieces of fascia inside out. If any of the people in charge had come by that day, they should have noticed these mistakes immediately. These mistakes were eventually corrected but we ended up with several places that were heavily caulked because the cuts of the wood were not correct. Another major complaint that I have is that this crew seemed to think that if they dumped loads of debris into the garage or through the vents or brushed it into the dirt by the fences that it didn't exist. My husband pointed out that we didn't even have gravel on the roof in the front of the house where the garage is, yet we ended up with a garage that was absolutely covered with gravel, nails, and staples. We spent a lot of hours that week picking up every nail and staple in the front and back yards and in the pathways in the garage so that our dog wouldn't get hurt when she came back home. The rest of the garage took days to clean out but we left that until later. We also discovered that the vents were not even covered when we found the debris in one bathroom and the fan in the other bathroom made a big noise when it was turned on. We also think that they dropped something like a roll of tar paper onto the air conditioner (which was not covered either) because it ended up with a dent. When the huge mess was pointed out to the owners of the company they said something about how people don't realize how messy a job getting a roof replaced is. I consider that a very weak excuse. People who take pride in their work end up with very little mess for the homeowners to clean up. On a different occasion with a different contractor, we got the popcorn removed from our ceiling and had water pumped into our house to take down the popcorn. When the crew left, there was absolutely no mess. We've had drywall done and didn't even have any dust to clean up afterwards. I've also seen a couple of roofs done, and saw a little debris left, but nothing like what my husband and I had to clean up. There were other mistakes made and they were not fixed until my husband pointed them out. But after the roof was finished, I thought that we were done with this company and wouldn't have to deal with them again. Unfortunately, in the middle of summer, our air conditioning broke, and the air conditioning guy, who does good work, attributes the damage to our roof replacement. Of course, the owners of Skycraft Roofing deny this, but they were not here to supervise their incompetent crew so I don't know how they can say that this damage was not the fault of their crew. To top it all off, last month we noticed tar or rust dripping from under the metal on the roof onto our new pavers. I dread the next surprise we have in store from making the wrong choice of roofers. An update: One of the mistakes made originally was that the roofers did not put in a diverter to divert rain away from the front door. The supervisor, whose name is pronounced "Aaron" but is actually Aran, put the diverter up with one of the owners, Mark, standing there watching him. Today, April 27, 2013, we came home to see the right side of the diverter hanging off the side of the roof. I took pictures which I would love to post. My husband went up on a ladder and nailed the diverter into place. He says that this Aran actually pounded on the roof with a hammer and pretended to nail the diverter into place. Today my husband realized there were no nails and that the guy was pretending. Again, the owner Mark was right there watching.
