He installed two motion sensor lights in front of the garage and tied them into the on/off switch so that I could control when they went on. He drilled the holes in the walls for the lamps, assembled the lamps, and installed them with all the appropriate wiring.
He is not only friendly, but offers good suggestions for future projects.
Several weeks later, when I had problems with one of the lights not consistently turning on, Terry came back and replaced it with a new lamp at no charge.
Laurie (who handles the calls) is super nice and Richard (who is the owner) always calls back to schedule the appointments and make sure that the home owner is happy with the work.
I have had Brea Electric work on my home for years and years and would not call anyone else.
Electrical services in general can be costly, but I know that Brea Electric stands behind the work they do and their electricians are consistently polite, knowledgeable, and neat.
Thank you, Brea Electric, for being a company I can count on.
"Thank You [member name removed]! We are happy to help in the future as you know. Richard Holly Owner"
On 12/17/2014 an SCE transformer short-circuited and sent 220 volts into my 120 volt house. The damage was beyond belief. We had no heat, no lights, no hot water (the penalty for having an energy efficient gas water heater with a computer controlling it).
I called Brea Electric and they had an electrician on-site within two hours. Eric was professional, courteous, friendly, and he communicated to us the status of each step in the recovery process. He had partial power restored within an hour, and full restoration was only delayed due to a part required to repair our ancient circuit breaker panel. They had everything working in 12 hours and we are grateful to the owner, Rich Holly, and his back office staff and all his electricians for demonstrating compassion during the recovery process. Their work was extraordinary and we appreciate it.
I would highly recommend Brea Electric for any electrical work, but especially emergencies. Their prices are fair and they do what they say they will do, when they say they will do it. You can't ask for more than that.
"Dear [Member Name], The issue you had with SCE is very uncommon, but it does happen. Many homeowners don't know that SCE will reimburse you those out of pocket expenses. We are always happy to serve gracious people like you and your wife. Thank you for finding us! Richard Holly Brea Electric Owner"
"Thank you (Member name removed) for keeping your business close to home. Since 1932 my family has serviced Brea and the surrounding communities. We appreciate your trust! Richard Holly Brea Electric Owner"
Every single stage of this job was harder than it needed to be: scheduling, walk through, additional work for additional pay (Somehow a bad thing), decisions on additionalwork, permit credits, attitude, splitting work to pass inspection and later being told it was permitted, work product, work scope, warranty and lack of professional decorum. This happened to us and we spent $3,300 +…how big is your job? After the work was done we had 2 very small issue’s to fix from the original job. A buzzing from the attic and a bathroom heater that didn’t work after the new 200amp panel was installed. The buzz was called on, one day after the panel was installed as we worried of fire. It was later fixed in <2 minutes after nearly a week but, getting Berry (Lead electrician) and Richard (owner) to fix it took multiple emails, 3-way phone calls being 1st referred to a heater friend when they tried to blame it on a heater igniter (Our 60 year old heater has no igniter) + told “It was always like that” then accusations of impropriety… In the end it was an error by Brea. An error that took an act of congress to get it fixed. The buzz was from an old non-functioning intercom system incorrectly re-wired to a 50 year old transformer, a mistake, yes a mistake that took 2 minutes to repair on a $3,300 job. All that stress to fix something they were 100% responsible for… How big is your job again? With a warm summer ending the 2nd issue presented a short time later. But, as luck would turn out, Berry turned that same heater on before the job commenced, actually commenting on the “1st use of the year heater coil smell.” The stress resumed again- emails, and the back and forths- I emailed why are you being so belligerent, the buzzing was your fault and it took less than 2 minutes to repair and this was something small again... Tired of it we simply said no more 3 way calls, just fix it or have someone out to fix it. Instead of spending another 2 minutes to repair the 2nd issue he said no, work was not done in the bathroom, cc and threatened me with his lawyers information, if I wrote an inappropriate review. The issue wasn't in the bathroom it was in the wiring in the attic (how you access the bathroom heater) All panel wiring during service upgrade was accessed from the attic… In a reply we fired Brea and told them never to threaten/ contact us again. Our lawyer advised Administrative remedy would protect our opinion (Do we need a lawyer or that knowledge to use or post a review on Angie’s?).
In conclusion, I don’t expect Brea Electric/ Richard to take ownership of anything. We expect quite the opposite, not only do we expect to be blamed for everything - but we are expecting further retaliation to maintain the Angie volume. We hope we’re wrong but here we are. Although we do demand accountability, customer service and professionalism we actually believe that we were the perfect customers, yes, perfect. We spent more money during our Job, paid on time, in cash and promised 2x-3x more business in the future + offered the guys sodas and lunch during the job. I honestly hope Brea was just having a bad month/quarter but it doesn’t make me feel any better about what we’ve experienced, what we’ve spent, repairs that still need to be done, the new electrician we need to find or what happens if any of Brea’s other work needs repairs.
Unhappy Client.
"In response to [member name removed] review, As they say there are two sides to every story. I will politely decline the "mudslinging" by asking you to read all the other reviews not only on Angie's list but on the Brea Electric website. We are the oldest business in Brea and have been family owned for over eighty years. I am a man of integrity and have hundreds of satisfied customers. I wish [member name removed] and his family the best. Richard Holly Brea Electric Co. Owner"
"it was a pleasure working for you! Richard Holly"
"Happy we were able to get both problems fixed for one service call. look forward to helping in the future!"
"This woman would rely on her husband to make repairs around the house. she is now widowed and wasn't sure where to turn. I was happy to offer her a senior discount and get her circuits back on immediately. I have seen other contractors take full advantage of people in these situations by charging them multiple times the fair value of the job. It feels good to do the right thing."
"easy job, wonderful customer, call me anytime! Richard Holly Owner"
Laurie and her manager were also very professional.
Staff seems to want to do all they reasonably can for Angie's List members.
We can't recommend Brea Electric enough.
