Rex Key and Security

They came right out when they said they would, did the work quickly, explained all the issues, nothing to complain about. Other companies had worked on this same old broken lock & they were cheaper but they never really fixed it. Rex Key did.

John is very professional and prompt. Price is a bit high, but the quality of work is excellent.

Other people have "fixed" this over the years, but though I have sometimes paid more, the fixes have never lasted more than a week. Rex Key's job is totally solid.

Mike was able to get the lock off the old door and into the new one. Lots of work but well worth it to us.

Rex Keys store and office is just blocks away. Their service rep came down immediately and evaluated the problem, telling me which things needed to be attended to by the U.S. Post Office itself and which they could handle. Within half an hour they were back with the needed lock fittings and keys to replace those on all the affected personal mailboxes. The work was done quickly and efficiently. The rest of the Homeowners Board was astonished at how low the materials and labor costs were!

Awesome service. Called in the afternoon to schedule appointment and they arrived the next day by 9 am. They called prior to arrival and performed work very efficiently at a low cost. Couldn't be happier.

john fixed them in less than half an hour. I called for 4 estimates and sent photos to all.  Most thought that we'd have to put a bar on the outside because they wouldn't be able to fix the internal lock - and the estimate was about $260 for that.
He dug around and found the mechanism to fix one, and replaced the other and explained why they broke in the first place (trying to lock with the drawers not shut, the drawers were also too full for the quality of the cabinet.

They are an old time locksmith and are extremely good. They can do pretty much anything. I run a second-hand business and we had a set of drawers with an individually keyed lock. Rex is the only place that can do those. In order to re-key it they have to be able to remove the device, but it is a banker's setup and the security to get into it is very difficult. Rex can do that. I had a friend that restored old jukeboxes and he said Rex is the only place that can make a key for an old jukebox. They have got licensed certified locksmiths and they are busy every day. They are great. I never have to take their keys back because they don't work. They are excellent.

Matt arrived on time, and had everything done in less than an hour. One lock was very old and he told me it was insecure, so he replaced that with a more secure one that matched, which he had with him.

I am a disabled landlord of a residence housing 4 graduate students. I do not reside at the property. By the luck of the draw (so to speak) a new resident appeared at the property this afternoon (Saturday) but the residents were all absent ? in 30+ years this has never happened. Angie's List provided a referral to Rex Key Locksmith in Berkeley for services to correct the problem. Matt answered the phone and was exceptionally understanding of my predicament and was preparing to go to the property when another of the residents appeared and solved my problem.
Exceptional business performance always rests on two pillars: skills and attitude. While I was not able to sample Matt's technical skills, his attitude toward  a new "customer" was so outstanding I wanted to document it for Angie's List's members' information. He was an excellent communicator (I am seriously hearing impaired), considerate, informative and seemed precisely the person I would enjoy dealing with. If I ever need locksmith services again, there is no question that I would call Rex Key Locksmith and Security. I thought this well worth documenting for other readers.

He did an excellent job. When we noticed that a mistake had been made, he came out immediately and corrected the issue.

He was prompt and efficient and quick.

Matt was extremely professional and very helpful.  I initially ordered a lock that was incompatible with my old 1925 mortise box.  He spent time going over my alternatives and came back and quickly performed the install once I obtained the right lock.

If I been able to remove old lock from door I could have
taken into shop on Shattuck in Berkeley and they would
have fitted a key for much less than the in house fee.
They encouraged this throughout the process in a
courteous and professional manner. Finally after not being able
to remove lock had to revert to house call.  

Everything was keyed properly.
And when one cylinder was a bit stiff, they fixed it up.
I've had various experiences with locksmiths, and my strong feeling is if you want your keys to work right, go to Rex.
Their retail operation is a bit sparse, but their key shop is top notch.

It went great.  I handed the lock and chain to them, asking if they could find the combo.  The man went to a computer and, after a few minutes of checking, said "yes, but it will be $5".  This seems very reasonable, given the cost of a new lock, plus I would have had to cut the old lock off of the chain.   I agreed and sure enough, he gave me a working combination.  I was out in 5 minutes.

John arrived punctually, was extremely professional, completed the job in a timely manner and was just fantastic overall.

Rex locksmiths were great.  The locksmith arrived on time, was very friendly, and made quick work of several locks that we needed replacing on our new home.  He gave great advice on how to maintain locks (who knew that there was a preventative maintenance plan for locks?).  I'm sure I could have found someone perhaps at a less price but when you want quality you need to pay for it, especially when it comes to the security of your house and family!

The locksmith came at 1:00 pm as promised, quickly diagnosed the problem and quickly fixed it. I felt the person was very professional.

The customer service rep located a tech and sent him in an hour. He quickly unlocked my bedroom door and performed a minor service on the front door for free. He was very friendly.
