Fighting Amish Electric

About us

We are a small family-owned electrical contracting company established in 2004 and owner-operated by Daan and Inder Rottger. We are hands on, do all our own work and strive to bring high quality, detail-oriented work to residential/light commercial electrical work. We bid individual project by project, allowing a client to see where their funds go and how to best prioritize their budgets. We do our best to clearly explain what needs to be done, how it will be done, and what complications might arrive along the way to help take the guesswork out of contracting (both for the client and for us) so that at the end of the project, the work performed looks exactly as it was described. Ultimately we look to establish long-lasting relationships with our clients so that not only will they continue to use us for years to come, but will recommend us to their friends and family both for the quality of the work performed and the experience during "the process."

I called and left a message and sent an email as requested to Fighting Amish. Daan returned the call and gave me an approach to resolving the problem. After contacting PG&E to narrow the scope and sending some photos we setup an appointment. He arrived on time assessed the situation, explained what was wrong and a plan for resolution. Daan set to work right away. I am happy with the service and that all the COVID protocols were observed. I gladly recommend them for the knowledge they shared as well as service performed.

The end result was wonderful. Very pleased with the quality and workmanship. They offered to put the switch on the wall, which was a plus. It took a couple of months to schedule appts for estimate and work. But, when they made the appt. they showed up and took care of business.

We have an old house and have experienced flickering of the lights over a period of a few months.  Our contractor (who has done other work for us) was unable to locate the cause.  When the electricity in the rear of the house went out, we knew we needed attention right away.  We called Fighting Amish Electric who spent 10-15 minutes speaking with my husband.  The Fighting Amish electrician said it sounded like it might be a problem with the PG&E connection to the power source and not the wiring inside our home.  He advised my husband to call PG&E; if it was a PG&E problem, it would be their responsibility to fix it and not ours.  We called PG&E who came out within a few hours (!!) and determined that the problem was indeed outside the house but it was with a part that was our responsibility to fix.  My husband then recontacted Fighting Amish who came back out to our house at 8:30 pm that night!  Since to fix it he'd have to turn the power off to the house, he said he'd return the next afternoon and replace the main breaker.  He did exactly that and the problem is now solved!  We appreciated his honesty and his attitude of wanting to help us and not charge us for services we didn't need.

All the repairs were done in the most professional manner, and at a price we thought quite reasonable.  Daan and his employees were efficient, knowledgeable, and friendly. We received a detailed proposal well in advance, and in general their communications were excellent, if a bit slow.  I give this company my highest recommendation so long as your job is not an emergency, as they are obviously very popular, so lead times are quite long.

This is the second project that I had them complete and they were fantastic! They are very professional, knowledgeable and friendly. Great communicators and listeners; they did what I asked and answered all my questions. All the work was top quality and passed permit inspections the first time. I highly recommend them and plan to continue to use them for
all my electrical work.

Amish provided a couple of new circuits in my 100 y/o house for a kitchen remodel. They were on time, and their estimate was accurate. I am very happy with the work they did (and the inspector was, too!)

The second time I had these folks back, they fixed problems with an overhead light and a wall sconce - both had been driving me nuts for many, many years. Not only did they fix the problems, but they were able to maintain the wall and ceiling integrity of my 100 y/o house without the typical old ho0use solution of adding conduit to the outside - I am very, very happy with this work.

He spent about an hour checking the heater unit and circuits. Then as the problem could not be fixed he gave me the contact information of an expert in this field. He did not charge for his visit. Excellent service!

"[removed member name] Hopefully whatever was going on inside the tub was diagnosed and fixed and you were able to get your swim spa back up and running. Thanks very much for the review, all that feedback means the world to our small little business. Not sure if the "F" for professionalism was a typo/accident or if you felt there was something massively lacking in how the Service call went, but let us know if you feel there is something we should be improving on. We do our best to make sure every client feels looked after but are always open to hearing about where we can improve. Cheers Daan Rottger Fighting Amish Electric 510-847-5577"

I was on a tight deadline to get electrical work done. With less than a week to go before tenants were scheduled to move into an in-law unit below the house my wife and I live in, I discovered that my limited electrical skills weren't going to be enough to get power to a non-working GFCI receptacle in the unit.
Daan was able to come out on very short notice, and fix the problem right away. Watching his work, I commented that I was learning a lot from him. Daan took the time to explain what he was doing, and provided DIY tips I could use for future small-time electrical projects.
The service was fast and professional, and the price was reasonable. I have no doubt I'd call him again. And, it doesn't hurt that the company has such a memorable name.

I contacted three electricians to repair a burned out outlet that had nearly caused a fire in my home.  Daan was the only person who expressed concern about the outlet but was unable to come until the 21st so opted for a local company to come the next day.  They did not come and did not let me know they would not make it.  The second company that could come was on that Friday, but alas, they didn't make it due to traffic.  Fighting Electric, by that late in the day could not make it but fit me in the next day.  He not only fixed the problem, but also taught me about my wiring and its capacity so that I am more aware of amps used in the same circuit.  He also worked on my wall heater which was a last minute question.  He was very patient.  I live in a condo and have a 91 year old neighbor upstairs.  She was very concerned about her wiring since this had happened in my unit.  He took the time to go to her unit, explain the wiring and ease her worries.  She called to report she was pleased with his explanation and felt confident all was well.  He did that as a courtesy and this is the kind of electrician I value.  The first company lost my business permanently.  I will call Fighting Electric for all my future needs.

I contacted Fighting Amish Electric because I needed a new circuit run from my panel (at the very front of the house) to my new dryer (at the very back of the house). I believe it was Inder who came to do the estimate, and at that time he pointed out that he would also need to do some work around the panel in order to run the wiring through the crawlspace, but since he was doing that he'd be able to install two outdoor weatherproof outlets (one in the front of the house and one in the back next to the dryer, separate from the line he was running for that)  as part of the project. He emailed me a detailed estimate, which was very helpful since I could send it to my parents for their opinion (this is my first home).
Despite a busy summer schedule, Inder contacted me as soon as a day opened up on their calendar which was about 10 days after I accepted the bid. Inder and two others -- I believe Daan and Brandon -- showed up as scheduled and got to work. They were not put off by my large dogs, which has caused issues with deliverymen, mailmen, and plumbers in the past. I wanted to watch the panel work to learn a little more about these things, and they patiently explained to me what they were doing and why they were doing it that way. I left them alone at my house for an hour or so for a meeting at work, and when I returned they were just finishing up. Inder showed me the work and made sure I was happy with it, and then dropped the bomb that since my crawlspace was not quite as difficult to work in as planned, he was discounting the original bid! I couldn't be happier with their customer service and professionalism, and the work they did was excellent.
