I found water dripping out of the cabinet beneath my kitchen sink. I emptied out the contents of the cabinet, cleaned up the mess and found what I thought was the source of the leak, a crack in an exposed pipe about 8 inches in length and made from some black plastic type material. I recognized that I had neither the tools, materials, nor the ambition to do this simple task. My ambition was to hire a reputable company, get quality work and be treated fairly. No hassles! So I called Angi. I selected the plumbing company that was most highly rated. I should have had Angi arrange pre-payment, but I didn t, and it cost me dearly. The plumber cut the appropriate length from a piece of pipe he had in his truck. Aside from a small amount of glue, no other parts or materials were involved. The plumber completed his work in well under an hour. So far so good! Here is where it goes south. I was prepared to pay a premium price for premium work, but not to the extent of the $517 I was charged for this simple task that any handyman could accomplish. Indeed, I called Angi back and priced the same job pre-paid. The quote I received was significantly less than half of what I paid. In short, I was way overcharged. I decided to file a formal complaint only after Oak Plumbing of Benicia, California refused to stand behind their work specifically, their insistence on having their own person diagnose the problem. They charge for this service. In my case, they blew it! Shortly after the plumber left my home, I began returning the items I had removed from the cabinet to facilitate the repair. Much to my disappointment, I found a new puddle of water in the same area that led to my hiring the plumber in the first place. I called the company and explained that the job was incomplete and requested that they have their man return and finish the job. I still had water leaking under my sink! I had traced the leak to the under-counter water heater/filtration system that could simply be disconnected. That process would involve disconnection of the water line to the device and little else. Another quick and simple job. And I would be happy to pay for any additional materials, but I felt that the $517 I had already paid would most probably cover any additional time needed to finish the job. The Oak Plumbing representative I spoke with insisted that the diagnosis must be made by their man. I spoke with the operations manager, Ariel, of Oak Plumbing Benicia. He was more than happy to send someone out. However, unless the problem was solely with the piece of pipe that had been replaced, it would be considered a new job, and I would be charged accordingly. I asked what the charge would be and got the same response I received at the first time: We can t tell you without having our plumber diagnose your problem. I reminded him that earlier in the day his plumber did just that, and he blew it! His diagnosis had failed to catch the second leak, and his efforts failed to resolve the problem of water leaking under my kitchen sink. However, I agreed to have their man come back the next day. I waited for him to arrive all day, and he never showed up! I got a call at the end of the day stating that their man had been held up at a prior job, and I was asked if I wanted to reschedule. I decided to have Angi deal with Oak from this point on. Bottom line, I find Oak Plumbing located in Benicia, California to be a company that I will no longer do business with. They way overcharge and do not stand behind their work. if you have plumbing needs, I recommend you go elsewhere.
