The owner, Art Solis, was recommended to us by a lumber store in Baldwin Park. Art's shop is across the street from the lumber store and there are samples of Art's work on the floor there. We liked the Arts and Crafts style of one of the doors at the lumber store and arranged to have Art to pick it up. There was also a Dutch door that we fell in love with. That was to be used as the back door. It was really convenient to be able to point to the door at the lumber store and then call Art come pick it up. We gave Art one of our kitchen cabinet doors to match the stain to. He charged $400 to finish each door, and another $400 to install each. I am a nit picky guy, so I knocked this contractor down to "good" overall. They could have reached "excellent" with a few improvements. Glass in the door should have scraped of all caulking, stickers, etc. at completion. The strike on the back door was hitting the wood casing before hitting the strike plate, and I had to call them back to correct this along with a loose casing fastening job. One fastener split the casing and one of Art's guys came back, not to replace it but just to slap on some wood putty. Otherwise, the fit of both doors is good and installation of the hardware was acceptable. I hit Art with a Fair for punctuality because he didn't call my cell number (which he had) when he was going to be late. When I called him to say the front threshold needed a correction, he never called back, but just showed up one day when we weren't at home to do the work.
