Greg stored my trailer at no cost . my truck is under construction, but well enough to drive x country. The truck has a removable tilt hood for easy repair access.Ihad some things not in their permanent place. Leaving California was a priority.
less than 100 miles away I started to have problems. engine temp was climbing and I didnt want the same thing to happen. I pulled over from time to time and put water in. Once i was finally out of California The best place to stop was Wells, Nev. Ottos made a quick look at the truck. Used a chemical tool to find exhaust gases in radiator. Blown head gasket. This didnt happen on my watch. An LKQ investigator came out and was shown a tattle tale plug on the back of the head was still in place so, it didnt overheat. The investigator says "so it looks like you received a bad motor, being as it happened so soon after you left the shop and that plug is still there!"
Numerous calls back and forth. Laid up in a motel room for @ a week while LKQ people could think of a good enough reason, for them, to deny my claim.
Tired of waiting, I hired a transport service to haul my trailer to Iowa where I was headed. $2000.00. I limped the truck the rest of the way to Iowa. @ 1000 mi.
Greg had told me there was going to be a problem in one of our conversations. LKQ reied as best they could to come up with a reason, but I had upgraded most everything question so the warranty would not be affected. some of the upgrade originally finished was a new radiator, the mechanical fan was gone (less engine drag) and 2 electric fans. the electric fans more than doubled the CFM's of the original fan. there was also a pusher fan installed on the opposite side of the radiator. Manually operated when needed.
Different stops from time to time, I found a couple problems. The trans oil cooler was installed in a way that pinched the lines. I removed it from the mount and left it loose where I had it. I have found a 6" piece of chain wedged in the driver side motor mount.
Greg had told me he would buy the parts if i do the work. I am a certified diesel mechanic, but i got injured. that and i paid a lot
of money to have someone else do it with a new radiar, new water pump, new thermostats.
The engine that blown head gasket just had $3500.00 fuel injection pump and injectors job.
Greg also tries to console me telling me he had bought a engine for his service truck and was having problems with it. Same people LKQ.
My warranty time has been over now for some time. No help with anything from Greg at (Ronks Service)... oh, after thought, He hasnt asked for the remaining balance.
This seems to be a trend, I could do with out. People dont take responsibility for their mistakes. I asked Greg not to let the lube guy or apprentice work on the truck. I'll presume that what happened because if his journeyman did this poor work, its happening to the people around Auburn also.
I had was a double ASE certified, Master Truck and Equipment before was injured. Take it from a disabled mechanic... Ronks garage gives real mechanics a bad name.
All in all. I see $6K for engine and install. Fail. $2000 to have another finish the move. Now my truck is down...I hire another winner to haul the rest of my belongings. $5000.00. Fail, he only brings 14K lbs, of the 20K lbs he was paid for. 6K lbs light. Thats 2 cars. Plane ticket $340.00 to go back and rent a truck $360 i think, Rooms to rent for About a week, by the night @$300. food, gas @ 4.30 gal. for 1700 mi. and lastly @4000.00 for another engine and parts.
...........&$18k to be back where i was before my head gasket blew>>>>>>>>>>and to think, i coulda gone some place more expensive and had the same problems. it was $13k for a new engine.
