Sam's Plumbing

After my main water line busted open at 3am, I needed help and ASAP. I called Sam at 7:30am, and he was here by 9. He asked me to send a couple pictures of the valve in advance, so he could buy the necessary parts on his way over. He finished the job quickly and I was satisfied with the outcome.

The valve that controls the water coming from the wall into the fridge sheared off while we were trying to turn it off. We had to shut the water off to the house because it was stuck open and I called Sam's in the afternoon, before 5pm. Sam was responsive and said he had other jobs, I said that was fine and that I would call elsewhere. He insisted he would be right out to do the work, just had to move an appointment. Not once was I warned that this was an EMERGENCY call, nor did he say that it would be charged as an emergency, after hours call.
We were told what to pick up from the hardware store while he drove to us from Concord.
When he arrived we had the part and he determined he'd have to open the wall behind the fridge. The service took about an hour and we were charged for travel time. He didn't use the part we'd picked up, said he had something that would work, though my husband spoke with him while at Home Depot. So we bought a 25$ part we didn't need, took the time to go get it ourselves because he didn't think he had the part he'd need and we're charged 15$ for the knob he already had.
He said we were getting a deal at 500$, that his normal rate would have cost us over 700$. Seriously? I'm in a trade and I've never heard of a plumber that charges such an astronomical amount.
If he had said at the beginning of our conversation that he would be charging us so much, I would have called someone who wanted the work and didn't have to move anything. Again, before 5pm on a weekday should not be considered AFTER HOURS when his listing states that he's open until 11:00pm. And as far as the and quot;emergency,and quot; I would have happily gone without water for another hour or two to find a different plumber.
He was nice but the experience wasn't.

Even though this was a simple job performed quickly, I found Sam to be very professional and he tackled the job immediately and was done in a short time. He not only cleaned out the drain, but gave me tips on drainage, when to check for faucet and disposal wear and when to replace. He did not pressure me to do more work or buy anything more but did say that if I needed advice in the future or installation, ( I may replace my disposal this year), he would be more than happy to meet my needs. I found him pleasant to work with and could tell he was very knowledgeable about his craft. If I need a plumber in the future, I would not hesitate to call Sam and would heartily recommend him to all Angie's List user to do so as well. Thanks Sam......

Called some local plumbers, but no response. Called Sam, who showed up at scheduled time. Gave me an estimate. We agreed on price and he started work right away. Finished work in 1 hour. Pleasant person. Easy to work with. No BS or run around like other contractors/plumbers. Price was reasonable.
