Chuck worked within my budget, allowing me to source the fixtures myself to get the best (online) pricing with no uplifts, and most importantly - he really listened to what I wanted and came up with a unique design.  The home had never had a shower but I still wanted a claw foot tub (in the only bathroom), however I HATE the surround shower curtain that goes in the tub and not having a window while showering.  Chuck designed a "shower pan" tiled floor that the claw foot could be stabilized on yet had enough drainage so I can use a single shower curtain and any overflow goes to the drain under the tub.  He rebuilt my window so that all of the original molding was saved but removed the bottom of the double hung window and created a transom that LOOKS like an original window.  The black and white tile work is perfect for the home, the hexagonal floor and glass/chrome shelves behind the tub for storage.  We replated the old glass towel rods and other shelves, he put in a pedestal sink and refurbished the original medicine chest, creating new matching molding to surround it.  This was a tight space and he made it all work to code and it is a peaceful, lovely space to be.  I have now hired Chuck to do my kitchen and he, and the designer he started working with, just get what works in an old home.  I did not want a remodel from Chuck - I wanted something something more akin to a restoration.  He delivered for my bathroom and his quote on the kitchen is very reasonable.  I cannot understand the other reviewers - the first one never even used him and even though Chuck won't speak up for himself my understanding is the homeowner insisted on doing work  (the very tile she complains about) and signed off on the door design.  It's a shame that there is no way to validate these reviews, makes me question my membership.  BTW, my bathroom before and after pics are on his website.  They speak for themselves.

The photos that are taken at the end of the project are to promote Chuck's business - older home restoration. The photos don't show the whole story.

The workers from Good Home Construction Company have been working in my home since June of 2010.  They just finished about a month ago.  My experience working with them has been excellent.  Their price was absolutely excellent; it was very fair.  The quality of their work has been excellent.  We had issues but it had nothing to do with the contractors.  It was more with the permits and other legal formalities and so forth.  That’s why it took so long.  They were very timely.  I had to leave my rental house by a certain date so they worked on a deadline.  They even worked on weekends to make sure that they met their deadlines.  That was great.  They provide a much personalized service in comparison to several other companies I had contacted.  They are soon going to post the pictures of this work on their website.  I would use them again if required.

Our house suffered a pipe burst under the kitchen sink that ruined the walls to our kitchen and the kitchen cabinets. In the process of removing the damaged cabinets, we also found a slab leak. We decided to do a complete re-pipe instead of an area repair because we plan to stay in the house. We shopped for quotes from plumbers and general contractors. The most expensive quote we got was from a plumber, and the least expensive quote we got was from a specialized plumbing company that only did re-pipe jobs. Chuck at Good Home Construction gave us an estimate that was in the middle of the price range of the other 4 written estimates we got. We decided on Chuck because he was knowledgeable and was able to discuss how to maintain our house's frame strength during the re-plumbing process. We were also concerned about minimizing the risk from the lead used in the soldered joints of the original plumbing of our house. Chuck was able to address our concerns about how to maintain the safety of our house. Chuck estimated the project would require the water to be shut off for 3 days, and that finishing detail work would require an additional 2 days. He also warned that the project could face unexpected delays because when you open the walls to a house you often come across unpredictable complications. Chuck and his crew did the following steps: -Dug a trench in the front yard to install a new line from the water supply in the street to the house. -Install new shut off valves so that the landscape sprinklers can be operated separately from the plumbing in the house. -Install pressure regulator. -Opened drywall in ceilings and walls in the areas where the new pipe would need to be installed. -Cut away pipe coming from the concrete foundation. -Design a new pipe layout utilizing 3/4" pipe in a way to maximize the water pressure before the water flows into 1/2' pipe that supplies the fixtures. -Install the new pipe. This is the biggest part of the project. It required two 12-hour days. -Enforce wood studs that had to be structurally modified to fit the new pipe. This included putting in Strong-Tie steel stud repair parts, and installing a new shear wall in the kitchen. -Insulate the pipe with foam insulation. -In the process there was a leak found an upstairs bathtub drain. This bathtub drain was replaced. Throughout the process, Chuck tried to minimize the mess caused by the laying down drop cloths and putting up plastic sheeting to isolate dust inside room. Also, because our house was built in 1979, the solder in the old pipe joints was 50% lead, so when possible these pipe joints were sawed away and replace with new joints. Where the old joints could not be removed without creating structural damage, Chuck was careful not to let the joints get heated in the soldering process so that lead fumes would not be released. Now in our house, water pressure is excellent, even when multiple baths and the kitchen are being used
