Edger Martinez did a wonderful tuning up job on my furnace/ac. I have learned a few things from Edger regarding my AC. Edger is very friendly,I really like when Edger and Ryan entered my home wearing shoes protection. Thank you Edger

They took advantage of his age and claimed that he needed new duct work which they quoted at $11,000. In reality, this job should have cost less than $2,000. To add insult to injury, the duct work failed to solve the problem so my poor father had to call another company to come out. They did so and determined that the issue was the faulty installation work that was performed by Avis two years previously when Avis installed the heater. The second company repaired the issue. My brother, on behalf of my father, contacted Avis and they refused to address the complaint. After pursuing a complaint with the California Contractors Board, Avis finally reached an agreement with my father to refund most of the money he paid. From our experience, they demonstrated unethical behavior, a lack of workmanship and business practice of preying on older, vulnerable seniors.

This dishonest company took full advantage of my 89 year old, nearly deaf, Korean War veteran, father. The heater they installed 2 years earlier quit working. When my dad called for service, he was told that heating ducts needed replacing. The price they quoted was over $10,700 and my father, who can barely hear, agreed. The actual work took 2 technicians less than 3 hours each and this still did not fix the heater! Another Avis person came by the next day and installed a Limit Switch which only worked for a few hours. Finally my dad called another company who installed the correct Limit Switch at a cost of $304 and the heater worked fine. On their website, Avis lists "Low Price Guarantee" and "100% Money Back Guarantee". When we contacted Avis about the exorbitant price that did not even fix the problem, we spoke to the Manager Leo, who said that he "wanted us to be a happy customer and would work with us on this". He asked for comparative bids, which we supplied (both from experienced, licensed companies). We also sent a long letter detailing all of the related facts and asked for a refund of the difference between the lower of the 2 bids and Avis' price. Leo called back to ask questions but after several more weeks, never did anything to process any kind of a refund. Eventually we reported this incident to the State Contractor's Board. After they got involved and put pressure on Avis, we got a call from an Avis representative and we were finally able to resolve this. In summary, Avis recommended duct replacement that did not resolve the problem and likely was not even needed, charged an obscene price for this unneeded service ($10,777 vs the other 2 bids that were in the $1,200-$1,500 range, less than 1/10th of Avis' price), and did nothing to resolve it (despite their website "guarantees") until the State Contractor's Board got involved. What kind of dishonest company treats our frail seniors this way??? If you have heater problems avoid these crooks like the Covid, unless you want to pay for unneeded work at an obscenely high price that doesn't even fix the problem.

Excerpt from, Craig Smith's Bio: AVIS is to provide homeowners with excellent service, and peace of mind when the job is done. And the same from his company Mission Statement: Avis believes you deserve to be provided with exceptional customer service. Offer top quality home comfort system equipment for purchase at competitive pricing, while providing you with outstanding and professional care from our entire staff Do not do business with this company, they take advantage and prey on people who are not familiar with an AC system and in our case as well, the elderly, they overwhelm you with information that is just salesman double talk. It all starts off with Mitchell, came to the condo on a Saturday, promises you the world, and then tried to sell my dad a condenser for $10,000. Luckily I was present and I didn't let that happen. Mitchell pointed out how old the AC unit was, I was aware of this, the blower is an inside blower/air handler, and I asked Mitchell “Shouldn't the air handler be replaced as well it’s just as old. His reply "Oh no that's been replaced so don't fix what aint broken". This was not true, I’ve since looked up the model I have and the blower is as old as the condenser. Settled on a price of $6,700 which I knew was high but it's the middle of summer and I understood the higher price, come to find out that price not justified. Set up install for following Monday but didn't happen for 1 1/2 weeks because of HOA protocol. Being a condo I’m sure Avis knew it would take some time to setup the install, but Mitchell sure was in a hurry to get signature and gladly took my $680 cash. Once installed Mitchell assured me any problems let me know you have a 10 year warranty, more BS its 5 according to the paperwork that another tech found inside the unit. AC has been blowing air but it has never been cold, first time I had on for an hour and a half, got down to 83 degrees, was in my office sweating while working. Oh yea Mitchell you never took a supply reading to see if it was at least 18 degrees lower than the return, I text Mitchell many times no answer. My dad has been leaving messages to the owner Craig Smith's own cell phone who prior to the sale would call right back or answer, now done deal no call back, no text back either. This has been going on for weeks still haven't heard from either of these individuals. Just so happened that my neighbor was having something done to her AC and they had to access something in my condo because we share the same condensation drain. Their AC tech comes over did what he had to do and says BTW see you had a new condenser installed, yes, he then asked why wasn't this 1970's blower replaced? I answer, I was told it had been, he replies, any reputable AC person in the business can tell you hasn't. He asked, did you pay over $4200 for just the condenser, yes almost $7000 I answered, he informed me for that much money at least the blower should have been replaced as well and be matched to the new AC unit otherwise won't be as cold and run as efficient as it should. He told me his company does these condos and you get everything that is needed including a new blower/air handler, whatever it takes at $6400-$6800, "Including return air filters read that Mitchell?" Turns out this tech was more than a tech, he said to me very politely, "the company you dealt with really wronged you and they and the pitch man (read that Mr. M) made quite a profit off you. Basically you have a $7,000 fan that will blow moderately cool maybe but mostly blow room temp." Boy was he right! Thank you Mitchell and thank you for still not returning calls or text, you as well Craig Smith I understand you still have not returned a call to my father, sure got busy all of a sudden. These people will promise you anything prior to the sale, once sale is made they're in the wind and good luck trying to get them to back up their promises or contract. Finally a tech from Avis showed up did his best by adding more refrigerant, which by the way was low, (brand new unit leaking already, who knows), to the AC but, yet at a cost of $6700, as I sit here typing, AC has been on an hour, condo is 85 degrees and I'm still sweating! Condo is less than 900sq ft., installed a 3 ton Lenox, it should be freezing in here why I am sweating. My dad a former Marine, trust people, gives the benefit of the doubt, and takes people at their word on a hand shake, I don't, this is a perfect example why. I feel that the administrators along with certain personal at Avis Heating and don't abide by the mission statement, thanks for the lesson. I have learned a lot in the past few weeks about HVAC systems and what they should cost, what they include and what they actually cost from legit companies. Since I haven't heard back from Avis, I've been taken! DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH AVIS HEATING AND AIR, THEY ARE SHYSTERS, MITCHELL WILL SAY ANYTHING, TALKS NON STOP WITH HIS FLOW CHARTED SALES PITCH, AND THEN HE PROCEEDS TO TAKE YOU FOR AS MUCH MONEY AS HE CAN, BELIEVE IT, IT HAPPENED TO ME!

He came out to check my currant person that I had a contract with  told me that I had carbon monoxide coming out of my thing and I need all this work done. I had a contract with them where they would come out every three months or something to check, every time they came out they kept finding stuff wrong they'd say oh  you got bunch of starter inhere and they'd say your drain is not draining outside oh my was drain is fine, it was draining when my air conditioner came on they told me they put a camera down there and it's all block and they wanted five thousand dollars to go in there and fix all that and then I started to get real suspicious they think I'm a single woman I don't know anything and I kept telling them no I'm not going to do that I'm not going to fix this just leave that and finally when they came in and told me you got carbon monoxide you better not turn this on anymore and we better replace this whole unit, we bought this unit new when we bought the house so I thought so I just went through your book and called this other guy to come out here to give me a second opinion. I they were think they were the ones that were on the furnace when I bought the house and we replaced, I think we bought the unit from them originally, my son actually is the one he and I priced it and then bought the thing from them and then  they service it and they said let me tell you about this contract were we come out every three months  for some many dad dollars they come out every three or four months and check everything and change the filter and do all this stuff and everything so I said okay I signed up for that and then every time they came out they kept finding something and they kept say well we fix this but it would be like this much money. I called them up and I said I want the rest of my money back on the contract I'm cancelling it and if you don't give me my money back I'm going to better business so obviously they had a lot of other problems they gave me no problems they gave me back the rest of my money. They were there when they said they'd be there, so they did respond when they were suppose to.

I learned a lesson of not agreeing to any work without an understanding exactly what the cost would be.  I am a widowed senior citizen and feel I was taken advantage of and I confirmed with another like company that I was substantially overcharged.    I will admit that the company did respond quickly to my complaint of an overcharge and did offer some reimbursement for which I am grateful.  Needless to say I will be much more careful.

We have used them for a very long time. They are good but the only thing we don't like is that they are very high priced. They are responsive. They call right away and tell us that we are due for you maintenance but then when they come, it is always something we got to replace. This last time, we spent $200 dollars and we weren't even expecting that. Every year, we pay $17 a month and yet they are charging us for replacement of parts. Some of the guys that came have been professional, some of them haven't because every time we call, it would be a different guy. We are using them because they are the ones that installed out heater. I told my husband that I want to look around for another company.

There was nothing about these people that I did not like. They were straight shooters, they told the truth, they use good equipment, arrive on time, they work with you and explain to you.  I thought they were amazing. They were on par or less expensive than everyone else I talked to.  They were extremely knowledgeable, informative, fair, on time, they did a fabulous job and knew exactly what they were doing.

They tried telling us that the capacitors(look like batteries) were slightly below normal function.  They could replace them for $250.00/ea.  One was 20 years old, one was 2 years old! They told us our Freon level was only 18psi (it should be 50psi) and that signified a large freon leak probably in the coil system. They inspected our duct work in the attic and told us many reasons they needed replacing.  They then sat us down and wrote some pricing options on the back of a piece of paper, then offered us a 12% discount if we opted to have the work done TODAY.I paid them the $59.00 fee and sent them on their way.  Then used Angies' list to find another company.  This company said that our Freon level was 48.5psi!!  Um...what??  No freon leaks?  Shocking.

Like said above terrible! I called the owner Chris to complain, and he was very very very confrontational saying he has been in business 24 yrs, and provides good service. I said it doesn;'t matter if he doesn't do good work on MY equipment! He picked at every word I said trying to find an excuse and any and all flaws in my description. Not something a good businessman would do, in my opinion.
