Hans from Altadena Solar did an absolutely fantastic job designing and installing a new solar thermal system for our home.  He is a brilliant engineer (I believe he actually is an ex-rocket scientist from NASA's JPL in Pasadena), so his fundamental understanding of the science behind these systems was a terrific asset in helping us put together the perfect system for our application (we wanted to use the Solar Thermal system for both domestic hot water and space heating needs).    I am also a practicing mechanical engineer for the medical device field, so my standards for contractors are quite high, and I can say that Hans far exceeded my expectations in every way.  The design was top notch, the materials used were selected with great care (taking into account not only the overall performance and efficiency, but also lesser thought-about future-challenge-areas like galvanic corrosion and system maintenance), and his care in making sure everything was "done right" was second to none.    He and his crew were also a pleasure to work with.  And finally, his pricing was very reasonable, and actually came in slightly lower than some of the other quotes I got, particularly when you take into account the quality of the materials used. All in all, I feel extremely lucky to have stumbled on to such a great company.  I'd use him again in a flash.
