"Both parties have settled on this one. Mr [Member Name Removed] reached out for a price and he knew what product he was looking for. I quoted the product he choose, he reviewed and signed a contract with drawings. the product was delivered as he ordered but later then I anticipated due to manufacturer delays, everything on the contract met what we installed so there was no deceit or misrepresentation. after we completed the work Mr [Member Name Removed] explained to me there was some issues with the product and our install, I met and looked at his issues and said I would get the Marvin outside sales rep involved, the Marvin rep and a rep from Economy lumber came out and as we inspected everything it was agreed between the 2 reps and myself the issues were with the product itself and not our workmanship. Marvin agreed to fix some of the issues but not all, they said most were not within their guidelines for Wood Products the job was then inspected and passed by a City Building inspector. There were some paint issues (Holidays) on the factory painted interiors my Supervisor agreed to touch them up but the paint was not an exact match it was very close so I came back with paint supplied from Marvin and touched up these areas at that time Mr [Member Name Removed] seemed happy, I met with the service techs on their first visit and they took care of a few of the issues but had brought one wrong part, second attempt they came out with another wrong part, so I was continued following up with Marvin to keep this moving and I guess their 3rd attempt they completed most of his issues but not all he wanted addressed. Mr [Member Name Removed] refused to pay the balance due on the contract so I told him I would have to take him to small Claims court to collect, he was angered by this yelling at me but I said it is what I had to do since he was refusing to pay on a contract he willingly reviewed and signed. Please read our other reviews and you will see myself and my workers are not like Mr [Member Name Removed] described us to be."
I went with the Amerimax vinyl double paned windows. Mike took care of obtaining the city permit and advised me of the inspection process. The windows and door were ordered and arrived in about 3 weeks. Work then started within a few days and was completed in three full days by Mike's crew of 3 who were awesome. They were professional, courteous, on time and were able to work around the excessive amount of furniture and 'stuff' all around the house. They took care to move or asked us to move some fragile keepsakes out of the way. They also made sure to clean up any dirt and debris throughout the process.
Mike has been in the business many years and is very knowledgeable and I would definitely recommend him. He and his crew provided experienced, quality, detailed workmanship. My mother is very happy with her new windows and sliding door. The house is now warmer, quieter and more secure.
"She is the one that emailed me and finally on the last email sent me a phone number to call! Sent her my number to call me and said it would be easier to talk then email and this is how she responds ?? Wow ! Can't please everyone."
US window was head and shoulders above the other providers we interviewed in the planning process and they exceeded expectations during the job. I talked with a lot of different vendors.
Mike offered a wide range of products from fiberglass to vinyl. He was competitive with the lowest price I got and lower than all the others.
US Window was the only vendor who made suggestions on how to improve the airflow in one room that tends to get hot. It was a very small change in how the window opened, but the situation is much improved.
Most important to me was the quality of the work.
I wanted a "New Construction Installation" on the patio sliding door. The other vendors offered what they call "New Construction", but what they planned to do was saw the stucco and put a wooden molding between the new door and the sawn edge. This would have had three materials meeting with two gaps to be filled with silicon gasket. The work would have been done in one day by the window companies themselves.
Mike from US window said this was the wrong way to do it, and the building inspector backed him up. The right way to do it is to painstakingly break out the surrounding stucco, while preserving the wire. Then the wire and water barriers are reinforced and tied to the existing wire, and overlapped with the door installation flanges. Then there is a building inspection. Lastly, a professional stucco contractor comes in and replaces the stucco. The result is watertight with no gaps to fill with silicon and no long term worries.
This is an example to the kind of attention to detail and quality that was brought to the whole job.
The installation job was some by a small, effective crew, so the consistency of the work was very good.
I don't think you can go wrong with US window in terms of quality, price and the honesty of the vendor.
I did not put in the dollar value of the job, because I can't exactly remember off the top of my head. His bid was among the lowest, but in included much more, like the proper method of installation for the door. If the others had been willing to bid that installation process, I am sure he would have been the lowest price by far. The two nearest prices would only do the saw and molding method that sometimes can have later water leak problems through the extra gaps.
+ During the measure-up and the estimate process, he caught what another competitor missed: that the windows in one bedroom would not meet egress code and would not pass inspection if the new windows were installed at the same size as the original windows. His team reframed them so the center one was wider and the 2 outer ones were narrower, so the center one would meet code. I was worried about changing them since they are front and center on the house, but the windows look great, and like they have always been that way.
+ The front door has 2 special side lights with a lot of detail, so I wanted to keep these as wood windows with divided lites. When these windows arrived, he noticed that they did not match the dimensioned drawing he had done and had the company re-make the windows.
+ For a very reasonable fee they added exterior trim to some windows that were trimless. These windows now match all the others on the house, and they look so much better than they did before!
+ Mike is so likable and professional. Seriously, a good guy.
I felt very comfortable with Mike's employees who performed the work. Roberto was clear on the plan for the install, and asked me if he had any concerns or questions along the way. I was thankful that the crew was considerate of keeping my home clean by putting runners down where they needed to walk through the home, and vacuuming all debris (inside and out) created from the actual work.
I also appreciated the crew's attention to safety, making sure they were operating in a safe way.
I will recommend US Window Renewal to any who are looking for a reputable, quality, professional provider.
and reviewed the job and answered all questions satisfactorily. Although
his estimate was somewhat higher than other companies, I felt he was
very easy to work with and that the estimates were fair. He also
explained honestly why the cost was a bit higher. I was convinced the
quality and service would be better than the other contractors.
And,he did a great job. Only thing was a bit of dust that was not cleaned
up during the job. He immediately offered to pay for a housecleaning to
clean up the dust.
The house is now amazingly airtight after these windows were installed.
I would definitely hire him again and definitely recommend his company.
Mike and his team at U.S. Window Renewal did a wonderful job replacing four windows in our SF condo. What an improvement. It was a pleasure working with Mike on this. It is rare to find a person/company that is as responsive, responsible, honest, reliable, and as easy to get along with as U.S. Window. Best prices of 5 companies interviewed.
I would definitely use them again.
We decided to pay a little more to go with a company who had more experience in SF. Our city hall can be a real pain, especially when it comes to front windows in building that are more than 50 years old, and we wanted someone who had dealt with them a lot.
"Due to the complications with the type of install for this project as I explained to the member I was unable to bid it the way he was requesting the install method with Red Brick around several windows. The City Building Dept said that the brick should be removed and properly flashed before they would approve the final inspections of the install. I did explain this to the member but he did not seem to understand! So after several attempts to find a contractor that works with bricks I was unable to properly bid the project and I did send this in an email to the member but it seems he did not get that last email. I am sorry for any inconvience this may have caused him. But I am sure he has recieved other bids like most consumers do and may have already signed with another contractor to get the work done so I don't think us not bidding this project has effected his quality of life living in the home.
