Avoid Michael Castricone at all cost. He's been the most deceitful contractor I've ever dealt with. He has not only misrepresented facts time and time again, did a terrible job, took no responsibility for it, he has continuously threaten me, shouted and made claims he would sue me for non payment, even when the job was incomplete. All installed windows had issues, including one that would not open. It took a year and 4 visits to get it fixed.
Response from US WINDOW RENEWAL INC

"Both parties have settled on this one. Mr [Member Name Removed] reached out for a price and he knew what product he was looking for. I quoted the product he choose, he reviewed and signed a contract with drawings. the product was delivered as he ordered but later then I anticipated due to manufacturer delays, everything on the contract met what we installed so there was no deceit or misrepresentation. after we completed the work Mr [Member Name Removed] explained to me there was some issues with the product and our install, I met and looked at his issues and said I would get the Marvin outside sales rep involved, the Marvin rep and a rep from Economy lumber came out and as we inspected everything it was agreed between the 2 reps and myself the issues were with the product itself and not our workmanship. Marvin agreed to fix some of the issues but not all, they said most were not within their guidelines for Wood Products the job was then inspected and passed by a City Building inspector. There were some paint issues (Holidays) on the factory painted interiors my Supervisor agreed to touch them up but the paint was not an exact match it was very close so I came back with paint supplied from Marvin and touched up these areas at that time Mr [Member Name Removed] seemed happy, I met with the service techs on their first visit and they took care of a few of the issues but had brought one wrong part, second attempt they came out with another wrong part, so I was continued following up with Marvin to keep this moving and I guess their 3rd attempt they completed most of his issues but not all he wanted addressed. Mr [Member Name Removed] refused to pay the balance due on the contract so I told him I would have to take him to small Claims court to collect, he was angered by this yelling at me but I said it is what I had to do since he was refusing to pay on a contract he willingly reviewed and signed. Please read our other reviews and you will see myself and my workers are not like Mr [Member Name Removed] described us to be."

Mike came out and gave me a price for 7 windows.  Although not the lowest, he took the time to explain the differences in cost.  Also, windows in the bedrooms needed to be emergency exits.   Existing windows were old steel frames and had to be sawed out.  Crew came out on time, were professional and completed the job in a timely manner.  New windows are great.

Owner Mike was great from the first phonecall. I chose him based on his 'A' rating and good reviews on Angies List. He came out and did initial measurements, made recommendations and provided estimates for Amerimax and Milgard windows.  I did not obtain any other bids as I felt his was fair based on research done on the internet, and based on an' estimate' given to me by a contractor years back who did other work on the house.
I went with the Amerimax vinyl double paned windows. Mike took care of obtaining the city permit and advised me of the inspection process. The windows and door were ordered and arrived in about 3 weeks. Work then started within a few days and was completed in three full days by Mike's crew of 3 who were awesome.  They were professional, courteous, on time and were able to work around the excessive amount of furniture and 'stuff' all around the house. They took care to move or asked us to move some fragile keepsakes out of the way.  They also made sure to clean up any dirt and debris throughout the process.
Mike has been in the business many years and is very knowledgeable and I would definitely recommend him.  He and his crew provided experienced, quality, detailed workmanship.  My mother is very happy with her new windows and sliding door.  The house is now warmer, quieter and more secure.

US window was head and shoulders above the other providers we interviewed in the planning process and they exceeded expectations during the job. I talked with a lot of different vendors.

Mike offered a wide range of products from fiberglass to vinyl. He was competitive with the lowest price I got and lower than all the others.

US Window was the only vendor who made suggestions on how to improve the airflow in one room that tends to get hot. It was a very small change in how the window opened, but the situation is much improved.

Most important to me was the quality of the work.

I wanted a "New Construction Installation" on the patio sliding door. The other vendors offered what they call "New Construction", but what they planned to do was saw the stucco and put a wooden molding between the new door and the sawn edge. This would have had three materials meeting with two gaps to be filled with silicon gasket. The work would have been done in one day by the window companies themselves.

Mike from US window said this was the wrong way to do it, and the building inspector backed him up. The right way to do it is to painstakingly break out the surrounding stucco, while preserving the wire. Then the wire and water barriers are reinforced and tied to the existing wire, and overlapped with the door installation flanges. Then there is a building inspection. Lastly, a professional stucco contractor comes in and replaces the stucco. The result is watertight with no gaps to fill with silicon and no long term worries.

This is an example to the kind of attention to detail and quality that was brought to the whole job.

The installation job was some by a small, effective crew, so the consistency of the work was very good.

I don't think you can go wrong with US window in terms of quality, price and the honesty of the vendor.

I did not put in the dollar value of the job, because I can't exactly remember off the top of my head. His bid was among the lowest, but in included much more, like the proper method of installation for the door. If the others had been willing to bid that installation process, I am sure he would have been the lowest price by far. The two nearest prices would only do the saw and molding method that sometimes can have later water leak problems through the extra gaps.

I cannot say enough about how good a contractor Mike Castricone was.  From returning my initial phone calls promptly, coming out to see the job within a few days of my call, being incredibly patient while I debated every type of window imaginable, providing me with clients where I could come and see their installed windows (he was so good he picked a client who's house was built in the same year and style of my own), and then waiting with my window order while we completed our summer vacation travel, proved his professionalism and attention to detail.  Mike was honest, patient, detailed and solution orientated.  There was no problem or concern he didn't address upfront and immediately.  His prices were competitive with the other contractors I interviewed.  His crew was on time, polite and tidy, cleaning up after themselves each day of the 4 day job.  This job was a huge expense for my family and I was completely nervous about the job but Mike's professionalism and experience but my mind at ease and made the whole experience a good one.  Providing me with two clients where I could visit and see the completed job he did was a huge factor in my decision to hire Mike.  These clients loved the work he did and their windows, as well as mine are  beautiful!

U.S. Window Renewal owner Mike Castricone can be trusted to give you top-notch windows and doors. My job was done right, on time, the first time. That's because Miike thoroughly inspected and measured my home, asked me what I needed, made recommendations, then wrote up a very precise contract. He navigated the complex permit process. My windows are energy efficient, noise and sun resistant, and I now can grow herbs in my 2 greenhouse windows facing a South exposure (a first for my 33 year old house.) Guests comment how comfortable and quiet my house is now. I am totally pleased because Mike oversaw all steps of my 4 day job. No one left at night until the house was safe and secure.  My house looks modern because of detailed grout trim, new installed wood frames in back, matching keys, everything sealed up tight. My house stays warm enough with only the tv, fridge, etc. running and not the furnace! I was most impressed by the pride in workmanship of Mike Castricone and his workers. My beautiful windows represent the excellence of his company.

What a fantastic experience with US Window Renewal. They replaced 15 windows with vinyl Amerimax windows, and 2 windows with Marvin wood windows in my 1915 house.  I got 3 bids for this job and US window Renewal (found through Angie's List) ended up being the lowest by far. They beat one other competitor by ~$1500, significant compared to the total amount!  Mike and his team are fantastic - professional, affordable, and thorough.    Some points:
+ During the measure-up and the estimate process, he caught what another competitor missed: that the windows in one bedroom would not meet egress code and would not pass inspection if the new windows were installed at the same size as the original windows. His team reframed them so the center one was wider and the 2 outer ones were narrower, so the center one would meet code. I was worried about changing them since they are front and center on the house, but the windows look great, and like they have always been that way.
+ The front door has 2 special side lights with a  lot of detail, so I wanted to keep these as wood windows with divided lites.  When these windows arrived, he noticed that they did not match the dimensioned drawing he had done and had the company re-make the windows.
+ For a very reasonable fee they added exterior trim to some windows that were trimless. These windows now match all the others on the house, and they look so much better than they did before!
+ Mike is so likable and professional.   Seriously, a good guy.

Mike, the owner, came out to provide us an estimate for window replacement, replacing our water heater door and having a custom front door made. Mike was great and really knew his stuff. He was very professional and upfront about everything and provided us with a great estimate. We, fortunately or unfortunately, had 2 wonderful bids and contractors we felt comfortable to be working with. We actually struggled making our decision but ended up going with the other contractor. This was in no way a slight to how we felt his work would be, we came away impressed and felt the work would have been exemplary. I wouldn't hesitate to call Mike again and told him as much. Really wish him good luck in the future!

Mike and crew were wonderful to work with - flexible on scheduling, timely, and professional.  I appreciated Mike's approach in the bid process - honest and understanding.  He took the time to answer all my many questions.  The windows look wonderful, and my home feels so much warmer and cozier as a result of this work.  I've received several compliments from friends and neighbors since the install.
I felt very comfortable with Mike's employees who performed the work.  Roberto was clear on the plan for the install, and asked me if he had any concerns or questions along the way.  I was thankful that the crew was considerate of keeping my home clean by putting runners down where they needed to walk through the home, and vacuuming all debris (inside and out) created from the actual work.
I also appreciated the crew's attention to safety, making sure they were operating in a safe way.
I will recommend US Window Renewal to any who are looking for a reputable, quality, professional provider.

I was completely satisfied from start to finish. Mike came over himself
and reviewed the job and answered all questions satisfactorily. Although
his estimate was somewhat higher than other companies, I felt he was
very easy to work with and that the estimates were fair. He also
explained honestly why the cost was a bit higher. I was convinced the
quality and service would be better than the other contractors.
And,he did a great job. Only thing was a bit of dust that was not cleaned
up during the job. He immediately offered to pay for  a housecleaning to
clean up the dust.
The house is now amazingly airtight after these windows were installed.
I would definitely hire him again and definitely recommend his company.

Mike and his team at U.S. Window Renewal did a wonderful job  replacing four windows in our SF condo. What an improvement. It was a pleasure working with Mike on this. It is rare to find a person/company that is as responsive, responsible, honest, reliable, and as easy to get along with as U.S. Window. Best prices of 5 companies interviewed.

I would definitely use them again.

Hi HIGHLY recommend Mike and his company! We compared him to another company, and not only did he give the best price, he was easy to talk to, understood our needs and provided recommendations (that were in our family's interest, not his interest). He knew when he needed to explain things, and took the time to make sure we completely understood - his goal was to make us happy with his work, and we felt it. Also, his crew was completely professional, and finished the job AHEAD of time!! When does that ever happen? I was so impressed with his work, I referred him to my mom, and now he is working on a job for her. Keep up the great work, Mike!

Mike was very helpful and professional. When he did the estimate, he was punctual and professional. His prices are very competitive too-- I would know, as I got 7 quotes for our windows! Throughout the pricing process he was gracious and polite and offered me various tips on how to make my window replacement project as affordable as possible.  His advice was much appreciated. We corresponded over email several times and every time, he offered some helpful advice on the project. We ended up going with one of Mike's competitors, and when I emailed him to let him know, he was polite and gracious about it. He was never pushy, never tried a hard-sell approach, but was responsive and prompt when I had a question.  I would definitely advise working with Mike and U.S.Windows if you want an honest, professional, not pushy company to work with. Many of the other companies I got quotes from were either really slimy and pushy, or else impossible to get in touch with-- both of those situations are frustrating and unappealing! Mike, however, is available when needed, without being obtrusive. His prices are very competitive, too.

Mike was professional and quick to respond, and gave us a very competitive bid on the eight windows in the front of our two-unit building.
We  decided to pay a little more to go with a company who had more experience in SF.  Our city hall can be a real pain, especially when it comes to front windows in building that are more than 50 years old, and we wanted someone who had dealt with them a lot.

Spoke with Michael Castricone who quickly set up an appointment to come to my house and provide an estimate on replacing a dozen windows.  I was hoping to get new windows in for the winter season so I took time off from work to fit into his schedule.  After he came out he mentioned that he'd be going on vacation so he wouldn't be able to send the quote for a week which was fine.  After two weeks I contacted him to see the status and he said he was backlogged.  Checked back after four weeks and said he was still working on it but would send it soon.  It's now been two months and no quote or follow-up from him.  What a waste of my time!
Response from US WINDOW RENEWAL INC

"Due to the complications with the type of install for this project as I explained to the member I was unable to bid it the way he was requesting the install method with Red Brick around several windows. The City Building Dept said that the brick should be removed and properly flashed before they would approve the final inspections of the install. I did explain this to the member but he did not seem to understand! So after several attempts to find a contractor that works with bricks I was unable to properly bid the project and I did send this in an email to the member but it seems he did not get that last email. I am sorry for any inconvience this may have caused him. But I am sure he has recieved other bids like most consumers do and may have already signed with another contractor to get the work done so I don't think us not bidding this project has effected his quality of life living in the home. Mike Castricone"

Mike was professional and considerate from the time of arranging a visit to make an estimate, to coming to check on the windows once they were installed. The price was good compared to three other estimates we got. Work was performed as scheduled and to a high standard. Mike and crew were friendly and helpful. I recommend this company to others looking to get windows replaced.
