On 8/4/14 Sun Country
Restoration began dehumidification on our flooded home. The damage was
extensive and would require all floors to be replaced and the bottom two feet
of drywall to be replaced throughout the house. We left our home that day.
Chris Nossaman was present and told us the restoration would take 90 days do
complete. I contacted SCR mid-September to inquire on the slow progress and was told
by Mr. Nossaman that the work was on track and would be finished at the end of
October. The pace of work seemed very slow. We would regularly go to the house
to pick up mail and noticed that the job would sit for days or a week with no
progress. I seldom saw any workers at the job, usually one worker less than 5
times. We would go to the house midafternoon; a reasonable time to expect
construction work in progress.
As the month of October passed I became concerned that the lack of progress on the job would delay the completion past
the assured date. None of my three calls to SCR were returned. The house sat
untouched the week of 10/20-10/25. It was during this week that we were
informed the job would take approximately two more weeks to complete and still,
there was no urgency to complete the restoration. On 10/29 at 11 AM I spoke
with a receptionist, concerned that no workers were at the job, who told me she
would email my concerns to 'supervisors' and that the landlord had requested
SCR to refer our inquiries to him rather than give us information on the job.The landlord told me the exact opposite; that he told them to keep me updated since I lived in the house. On 10/31, the day the
restoration was supposed to be complete, I spoke with Jeremy at the house who
was there to take bids on the painting job. The buckets of paint for the
interior had sat in the house for over a week. I feel that bids for paint and
flooring should have been arranged long before the end of October. The
dimensions of the home that would have been used for estimates did not change
in any way. I was informed today that the new completion date was now November
28/29 because the cabinets in the house will need to be painted to match the
new color. This is a full month past the original completion date and two weeks
past the extended date to paint cabinets in a normal sized home.. From August to January
my girlfriend, myself and our dog were displaced from our home. We are
both teachers and this impacted both personally and professionally. We
returned from an out of state summer trip expecting to begin a successful
school year. Instead, we have endured our home destroyed and the loss of
irreplaceable personal possessions. Our displacement has been unreasonably
prolonged by Sun Country Restoration's neglect of our restoration. The original
estimate of 90 days seemed excessive but I did not question it. Witnessing the
slow progress of the work and seeing the job sit untouched for up to a week at
a time throughout the renovation upset me and made it clear that the job was not made a priority. I have
read other glowing reviews of SCR with customers describing them working long
hours and overtime to restore their homes. This was not my experience. My
concerns have been ignored and my home is uninhabitable with a complete date
that keeps being extended. I have no recourse since I am not the property
owner, nor the policy holder for the insurance that is paying for the
restoration. After the job was complete some items were missing or damaged. SCR replaced the items in good faith.
I was disappointed with SCR management. and their inability to get the job done in a timely and professional manner. I am still very dissatisfied with management. I encountered numerous delays due (5) sub contractors and suppliers not being paid in a timely manner..
I encountered numerous delays during reconstruction of my home. I believe there was 1 ½ to 2 months delay, directly related to Sun Country Restoration's financial challenges (enable to pay their obligations to supplier and Sub Contractors) .
I can not recommend Sun Country Restoration to anyone . However, I would warn others what to expect.
