The first was in 2005 when I had a master bath changed to a handicapped one for my husband. In addition, the master bedroom was painted, wall-to-wall carpet pulled out of the bedroom, hall, and entry and ceramic tile laid to make wheelchair movement easier. It was a major project requiring design consultations, a half wall and a sunken tub to be torn out, plumbing and floor issues involving roots resolved, and mistakes by a previous remodeler corrected. The new bathroom included safety bars, a rimless shower, two sinks, new lighting and a ceiling fan, new cabinets in bathroom and adjacent closet, and a water saving handicapped toilet with a high-end Toto electronic toilet seat that cleans and dries the human using it. The cost was $38,000. Time was an issue as the bathroom needed to be done as quickly as possible. Mike provided alternatives from which to choose with reasons for their choice and kept us updated on delays and the reasons for them.
In 2009 I had Mike update the rest of the house at a cost of $28,000. Ceilings had been damaged over the years by rain and their replacement exposed problems with insulation. The rest of the wall-to-wall carpet was torn out and ceramic tile, that matched what had been put in in 2005, installed in all rooms. All walls were patched and painted. Some new electric outlets installed. Cabinetry was refreshed by deep cleaning. In the hall bath the original plastic tub all-in-one was replaced with a cast iron tub and a ceramic tile surround with a safety bar. I also had new lighting, counters, mirror, and a water saving toilet put in. The laundry room was reconfigured with a new style washer and dryer, and a sink was added. It has been long enough that I have probably forgotten other projects that were completed in both the first remodel and this one.
I know well that in remodeling one never knows what will come up. It is often issues of and quot;As long a you're doing this, you might as well do that.and quot; In all my dealings with him, Mike has presented choices and recommendations and has kept me fully informed of what was happening.
"HOME OWNER DID NOT PROVIDE THE PROPER CABINET SIZES AND SOME OF THE PARTS WERE MISSING WHEN WE STARTED THE PROJECT. THE CEILING HAD A CRACK IN THE DRYWALL AND THE OWNER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND WHAT WAS REQUIRED TO REPAIR. ALL ELECTRICAL WAS INSTALLED WHERE SHE HAD REQUESTED. PAYMENT ON THE OTHER HAND WAS VERY SLOW TO COME WITH THE LAST PAYMENT RECEIVED ALMOST 1 YEAR PAST THE DUE DATE. I'M SORRY SHE FEELS THE WAY SHE DOES BUT SHE HAS NEVER EXPRESSED THESE PROBLEMS TO ME OR HER DISSATISIFACTION WITH THE JOB! I WOULD NOT DO ANY OTHER PROJECTS FOR THIS PERSON IN THE FUTURE DUE TO HER SLOWNESS OF PAYMENT. I WAS UNAWARE OF ANY OF THESE ISSUES WITH THE PROJECT UNTIL THIS POSTING ALMOST 4 YEARS LATER. AS FAR AS I KNOW ALL ISSUES WERE RESOLVED TO HER SATISFACTION AND SHE WAS HAPPY WITH THE FINAL FINISHED PRODUCT."
