The only roofer I called that didn't try and sell me a whole new roof. Scott spent a good amount of time with me.... no rush, no 'can't make any money on this' attitude. Suggested that I should call the HVAC contractor even with as long as it had been since it was installed. He said that the roof was poorly patched after the old HVAC unit was removed and the new one installed. He showed me what should have been done to help and what to watch for if they agreed to make it right. He left saying to call if he could help and that we would figure out an affordable way to fix it. When I do need a new roof they will absolutely be my go to contractor.
Description of Work: Checked roof leak situation under a 21/2 yr old HVAC unit on a flat roof for possible fixes.

Fortunately, I called RHR Roofing to find out what they planned to do about the roof. Scott, the new owner of the company was immediately and completely responsive. His field supervisor, Dennis, soon confirmed the existence of rot identified by my inspector and immediately had their carpentry crew on the roof. One and one half days later the rotten wood was gone and replaced by new wood. The carpenters, Steven and Guy, resealed the new construction and replaced the tiles. They left a clean work site, the roof looks great, and it is guaranteed for four years. For me, one true measure of a solid company is how they respond to problems that invariably creep into a big project. RHR Roofing responded professionally and competently. I am pleased with their work and will use them in the future. I am scheduled to complete the house purchase in early May, 2015.
Description of Work: The seller of my new townhouse hired RHR roofing to replace underlayment of a pitched tile roof and a seal treatment of the flat area of the roof. My house inspector, Marc Richter, of Hands-on-Inspections (an Angies List "A" rated company) found rot in the fascia and eaves after the roofing job was completed. The seller refused to address the problem and I learned later that the listing real estate agent had not contacted RHR to address the problem. I was going to cancel my purchase of the property.

Work on our roof started about three weeks after we signed the contact. The manager called the week before to confirm the date when work would begin. Workers showed up later in the day than I expected and told me that the job would be done in a couple of hours. I thought that seemed rather fast as there were two sections of my roof that needed repair. The two workers knocked to let me know that they were finished in about 2.5 hours. I told them that I wanted to take a quick look at the side where the new barrels were to be placed and they were confused. I walked with them around the side of my house and no, there were still no barrels and they workers said they didn't know that they needed to do that work and did not have the materials for it. They told me that they would have to come back the next day. I called the office to confirm that my roof would be finished the next day and was told that a supervisor would call me back. No one called. The next day came and I called the office again. I was told that the crew would come to finish the job that day but that they had been put onto a different job so it wouldn't be until later in the day. No one ended up showing up. The next day I again called the office, and someone from the actual work crew called me. He said that he would be out in a few hours to finish up the second part of the roof. They came and finished it, minus the wood trim piece that I was somehow supposed to know they would not be replacing. The wood piece goes under where the tiles are nailed in so I can't do it now. It would have been nice to know that up front, because I can't fix it now and one side of my roof doesn't match the other. Later that evening, my husband wanted to take a peek at the work. Up on the roof he found dozens of roofing nails, a cigarette butt and broken roofing tiles. The areas around where the mortar balls were replaced were covered with globs of mortar haphazardly dripped around the areas. The mortar balls themselves were not smooth, and some were quite uneven. I called their office to complain and request that my roof be look at again by a supervisor and that it be cleaned up. A couple of days later the inspector came out to look at it. He did not do anything to remedy the situation while he was here but said that a crew would be out. Two days later, the same crew that had been out the previous two times came back. They cleaned up the cigarette butt, somewhat fixed the mortar balls (though they are still sloppy) and cleaned up around them and secured the barrel tiles to the roof. When the knocked to let me know they were done, I asked if they had cleaned up the nails. "What nails?" they asked me. One of the two workers went back up and got some down, then they packed up and left. My husband finished picking up the nails from the roof later that evening when he got home from work. No one has called to follow up with me regarding the job. Overall, the people who I spoke with were nice, however the job did not seem like it was done by professionals.
Description of Work: Repaired one section of tile roof above garage area where there was a leak. Replace barrel tiles on another section of the roof. Repair all mortar caps on the entire roof and remove any debris caused by work.

Dear [member name removed] Just read your review on Angies list. Resending this which was originally e-mailed on 12-19-13. I'm not sure what day you called in but if you remember we had a lot of rain.and a large amount of calls. We have to prioritize our calls according to what is necessary and who contacted us first.Maybe someones roof was caving in. Maybe someone else was flooded. We have many customers. I am sending this to the hotmail address you gave us Perhaps this is the wrong e-mail address. I'm not sure what happened but I really feel a bad review on Angies list is not warranted for a free estimate. What I do know is...We paid someone to come out to your house, to get all the information and they brought it all back to the office and someone then took the time to type it up and e-mail it. I dont understand the complaint. No work was ever done you can see here this was typed on the 19th of December. NOTE THE DATE BELOW Check your e-mail Its a shame you feel this way. We are sorry for your displeasure but are not responsible for making everyone happy. We do this as a courtesy for the public and ask nothing in return more then comparing our estimate with our competitors. "Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you." Ephesians 4:32 God bless you. Regards Mariellen Ralph Hays Roofing

Replaced plywood under tile roofing and facia boards on upper roof. Mortared in the tile ridge line on all roof segments. Sealed patio roof edges to preclude any leaks from previous reroofing contractor. Work performed professional and timely. However, person doing the job left a mess when performing the mortar portion of the job. Overall worksite not properly cleaned up after the job was complete.

Description of Work: Scott the manager stopped late in the day to squeeze us in for an estimate on his way home. I explained that we had a leak and I thought the roof probably needed replacing. He said he'd take a look and let me know. He was up there for a while and at one point I saw him with a bucket going up the ladder. When he came down he said that the roof was in good shape. Well maintained and could last another 10 years. He said he found a spot where the leak probably originated and applied some patch material to it. He thought it might take care of it, call him if it doesn't work or we need anything else. He didn't expect a dime. If we need a new roof or a repair I'll call Ralph Hays Roofing no question.

I'm not sure how someone can be graded for work that was not performed. If we ranked middle of the road pricewise that is exactly where a good contractor should fall. You certainly don't want to go with the cheapest roof. What kind of materials are they using? good roofing supplys cost. Who is working on your roof ? Are they insured? All roofers should be in good standing with The ROC and be licensed and insured. We won't be the most expensive and we won't be the cheapest. We guarantee that the job will be done right. We stand behind all the work we do. Theres no fault in pricing jobs correctly. You get what you pay for

The project went very well and we are pleased with the result. All the employees at Ralph Hays Roofing were very nice and professional. Our roof was over 20 years old and we had been having some leaks. We knew it was time for a full re-roofing project and we had been putting it off during the downturn. We needed a fair price and quality workmanship. Plus, my 88 year Grandmother lives with us and I wanted to be very comfortable with the crew that came to our house to work. She loved them too! We got a few estimates and found Ralph Hays to be a good value and we trusted them to do the job to our standards. They went the extra mile to find enough matching tile for the pieces that needed replacing and we especially appreciated that.

Ralph Hays was unable to adequately fix several living room and skylight leaks even after several attempts. management was involved. when we experienced a severe leak after a rare arizona extended rainstorm, that now seriously damaged drywall in several areas, we joined Angie's List for just this reason and started searching for anyone who could appropriately fix this roof. We took about 5 bids and yes Ralph Hays was also contacted in Aug/Sept of 2012 to see what they would say regarding the now obvious continued leaking they had allegedly repaired before. Ralph Hays stated the skylight was not the problem, they measured an area to repair and when we received the estimate for about 4K the measured area did not encompass the entire affected areas. With the other bids that came in, i received photos from the roof in real time, showing me what was exactly wrong and furthermore that the original roof was not built to code. underlayment placed by the original roofer for subdivision was only one layer, 2 layers is code. more than one bidder told me they had found the same problem in several homes repaired in my area. The roofer i hired told me what i had suspected from the start, he stated that water could enter from all of the flashings for pipes on that side of the roof because the flashings all of them had not been installed such that water could not enter them. they did not meet the roof and were just somewhat floating, the skylight was a serious problem he stated that someone had just used some stuffed in filler and some kind of sealant/glue that dried and cracked and still left the problem area exposed. He stated it had not been flashed at all. several bidders told me the same thing, that they would start at the ridge line, remove reflash the skylight, and reflash all pipes on that side of the roof, lay down code/ 2 layers of underlayment and replace with original composite tiles. Ralph Hays stated that there was no need to repair skylight as it was and quot;okand quot; other bidders showed me the photos, it was a serious problem. Ralph Hays gave the impression that they did not care about fixing anything properly. Logic and physics dictate that what is damaged uphill will eventually affect everything downhill. with such a severe leak it obviously had an origin, and starting at the top to fix a problem just makes sense.
Description of Work: My home builder tells me that Ralph Hays is the original roofing company that roofed our entire subdivision. quite a few neighbors have had many leaks starting the first year of home ownership. In the fall of 2012 about 5 neighbors required major roofing repairs. and these were just the ones I personally observed, likely there were others as well. my personal experience is that Ralph Hays came to fix a leak the first 6 months after moving in here approx 1997-8. they were called several times over the course of subsequent years to repair additional leaks in the same general area. the charges for repairs were on the order of 75-150 and this was based on Ralph Hays saying the repairs needed each time were minor. Of interest to note was that each repair from Ralph Hays held No Warranty. Ralph Hays bid copied and pasted from the original 4/1/2010 1) Remove tile around skylight at ridge, south side. 2) Apply #40 base sheet and reinstall tile. 3) Replace broken rake tile at entry and field tile at entry way hip and by air vent above skylight. 4) No warranty. $ 150.00

Dear Angie’s list, This is in dispute of [removed member name] review. This year 2013 is the first time we ever heard anything about her very angry testimonial. We do our best work when people communicate with us directly. We are sorry she had a bad experience and can assure anyone if we are made aware of any kind of problem we take care of it until the customer is completely satisfied. If it was a severe leak, as she explains it, The cost would have been a lot more than $150.00 The time and the materials alone for such a leak would have been quite a bit more. We built the roof in February of 1997 for Dominion homes. That is 13 years before we got any calls from anyone asking for maintenance or complaints. If she has any questions about warranties she is free to discuss it with the ROC. 2-4 year warranty on that scope of work is The Norm. Maintenance needs to be kept up on any roof. I’m not sure why if this happened in 2010, we are just hearing about it now here in the view of the public. We attend to all complaints and take notes on all phone calls. We work with the Register of Contractors as well as The better Business Bureau, The ARCA and we have an excellent record with all of them. We also carry your Angie's List Super Service Award. If you read on here there are excellent reviews, if you have been in business as long as we have, there will be some customers that just have nothing nice to say. That really disappoints us because we pride ourselves on our reputation.

Came out and gave an estimate. We thought the roof had been repaired until we got a call asking if we wanted to make repairs? We had already paid what we thought was an invoice. We had already made sheetrock and paint repairs. With some prodding, we got them to make repairs just before it rained again (that same day).

The estimator came to the residence. First for the area we noticed the water damage, and then a second time to check an area we were told by another company was also damaged. The estimate was exactly what we paid, and they did not try to sell us anything else. The workers showed up on the day we had previoulsy scheduled and the work was completed in a timely manner. They were not loud or obnoxious. My wife was ill that day, and they were as quiet as roofers can be. They stayed until the job was complete and then were gone.
Description of Work: Repaired the back of house near chimney and applied new flusihng to tthe chimney. Replaced damaged tiles and wood that was also damaged by rain. Repaired the front of the house over the garage, replacing tiles and wood and arraging them so the tiles that showed matched all the other tiles. The back tiles are close, but the house is 20 yrs old so it was difficult to find an exact match. The company cleaned up all their mess and the roof looks great!

Came out for estimate in a timely manner and had the lowest estimate and fastest service time of the four companies we'd called. It looks great and you cannot tell where the tiles and wood fascia have been repaired and/or replaced. Our home is 21 years old and the tile is very difficult to match, but Ralph Hays did it! We would definitely call them again and will recommend their services to our family and friends.
Description of Work: Replaced all damaged tile just above and along roofline: one above front door where missing tiles, and other where neighbor's tree had knocked off tiles. Also replaced and painted rotted fascia above front door (we delivered the paint to their office one day prior to repair, so it matched perfectly). Had unexpected replacement of sheet of plywood (labor free of charge) that we purchased from store once roofer discovered it had rotted after removing tiles in repair area.

The inspector took the time to examine the whole roof and explain the repair process to me. The repair was completed within a week (when it rains in Tucson, the roofing companies are inundated, as we have a lot of flat roofs). Very personable employees willing to put up with inquisitive homeowner!
Description of Work: Repair involved applying a sealant to the area around the leaking scupper, and a small leak around the chimney cap.
