Our Lucy was very sick when we took her in. She needed labs and overnight stay but the price was too high. Doctor advised to leave Lucy for outpatient therapy and IV which I know she needed. They asked what our budget was and worked with us to get Lucy feeling better. Picked her up 7 hours later and we were given all meds needed for Lucy. Because of their compassion and wanting to help Lucy is now back to normal. I just want to say I really appreciated the way they treated Lucy and us. Thank you for your services!

On price, they're right around there with everybody else, but they're all too high.  They're open 24 hours a day.  On punctuality, it's an A if it's a normal day, a C if they have emergencies, and you have no control over that.  Certainly I would want them to tend to my dog if it was in dire straits.  They had other people sitting in the waiting room.

the VCA Hospital manager phoned me 5 days after i called in the refill, to tell me she would not agree to refill the perscription ! even knowing the cat required it to live and after i explained i only had a few days of medicine left. her excuse was that my cat was going to be due for his annual vaccinations soon(technically in a few weeks) and she could not agree to refill the medication until after i brought my cat in for his annual visit. i explained to her that i had just returned from being out of town for six weeks to be with my father during his last weeks and passing. i explained that due to the nature of the trip i didn't expect to be away that long and returned desperately low on the life sustaining medication my cat needs. i also explained i was going to need to return back to the eastcoast for a few weeks soon and needed the medication desperately. i explained i maybe a few weeks late for the annual visit because i didn't know if my trip would be 2weeks or a month inorder to take care of family matters. well she decided on her own, without talking to any doctors, she would not refill the entire prescription, only 1/6th of is(costing twice as much per week) which isn't enough to bridge the amount of time i maybe away. she also didn't bother calling me to tell me she was only going to refill the "partial amount". she also, knowing i was desperate for the medicine quickly, she delayed notifying the Pharmacy. so two weeks after calling in for the perscription, i am still without medicine to the date of this review and found out today it will be at least 5days more. needing and having the medicine has nothing to do with vaccinations! it also has nothing to do with "annual visits". my cat's life depends on it! i have three cats in total, this one is 9yrs old and the other two are 7yrs old. all three have gone to VCA on and off their entire lives. depends on what Vets are there at any given period of time. i have had two good vets but it seems the good ones leave and move onto better Hospitals.

My pet duck Beatrice passed on due to the ineptness of the avian staff here. First, there is no qualified avian vet available on Fri, Sat, Sun. every single week. Dr. Damon, the ER vet on Friday day time, who was supposed to have some duck experience, could find nothing wrong with Beatrice, even though I now know from another avian practice that being "egg bound" (egg stuck in reproductive tract) is VERY common in ducks. Not being able to determine why Beatrice was not eating, I asked Dr. Damon to take her temperature. She said "that is kind of hard to do" and it wasn't done until much later by a tech (insert thermometer in rear end). Dr. Damon listed possible diagnostic treatments: x-rays, blood work, antibiotics, or taking her home, separating her from the flock, syringe feeding her, and seeing what happens. I asked her what she recommended, and she said the latter. She told me to bring Beatrice back in if I saw open mouth breathing again. She said they would call the next day. We brought Beatrice indoors and syringe fed her the suggested amount daily, but there was no change in her behavior - she did not eat on her own. No follow up call was ever received from Valley. Beatrice seemed OK as I anxiously awaited the return of the main avian vet, Dr. Harrington, on Monday. A 1:30pm appointment was obtained when I called at 8am. Harrington found a distended abdomen; I asked for x-rays. A large mass was found, Harrison stated "possibly a growth, issues with the liver, or  I understand that sometimes a shell-less egg gets stuck in there". A needle biopsy found a gray putrid fluid indicating that there was probably a rotting egg. Sadly, treatment (surgery) was put off until Wednesday because that is Dr. Harrington's surgery day. Beatrice passed on at home Tuesday morning. I am beyond angry. I have since found out from another avian clinic that being "egg bound" is VERY common. Suggested first treatment is antibiotics and fluids. A major bird keeper resource confirmed the common-ness of being egg bound and told me that there are several things you can do at home to treat this condition: lubrication up the rear end, massage, and warm water bath. I am sick..... I would have done this but I just didn't know what was wrong. Frankly, I cannot imagine sending any animal home to await surgery 2 days later at the vet's convenience when there is a gray, putrid fluid inside of them. Sadly, sweet Beatrice would have been much better off if I had just googled "duck not eating" as one of the first topics that comes up is "being egg bound". Do not take a sick bird to this clinic!!! They have treated injured ducks well in the past for me, but apparently they cannot do anything for your duck on a timely basis if it is sick because they are inexperienced, are not well staffed for avian care, and because prompt treatment does not fit their schedule. Beatrice is gone and this did not have to happen. I took her in right away when I saw a change in her behavior. Then, I took her back again 3 days later when the main avian vet was finally available and both times we walked away without treatment!!!! How inept is that??? I'm angry at myself for not just researching this on my own. Poor sweet Beatrice......

Response to VCA Valley Animal Hospital's REPLY The response from Valley Animal Hospital is absolutely SHAMEFUL, filled with untruths, and adds insult to injury. Never did I DENY any treatment offered. Never was cost a factor - I have paid invoices totaling $600 for two vet visits three days apart: emergency room treatment, x-rays, blood work, and needle biopsy and I even agreed to surgery costing $1100. Sadly for Beatrice and for me, we never made it to the ACTUAL TREATMENT of a COMMON female bird predicament because THEY DELAYED it for TWO additional DAYS after we had already waited for three days to see a real avian vet. The plain truth is that they seriously faltered here, again and again and now are trying to blame the victims for the injury they inflicted. It is apparent that lack of professionalism goes all the way to the top. Valley Animal Hospital needs to admit that they blew it, needs to apologize for the pain they have inflicted, needs to implement some major changes in how they handle avian crisis, and needs to return the $600 I spent trying to get them to help Beatrice and me. My unrelenting goal is to ensure that another "animal in crisis" is not sent home to die because of a series of mistakes made by vets at Valley Animal Hospital.
Response from VCA Valley Animal Hospital and Emergency Center
"We are empathetic to the loss of the life of any pet and make every effort within the clients financial capacity to treat them and preserve life. Our staff doctors are very qualified with avian care and treatment. When Beatrice was presented to our staff a complete and through exam was performed by the DVM and she offered three options to Ms. [removed member name] with three separate price ranges. The first was to monitor the pet in hospital and perform diagnostics. The second to perform diagnostic testing (ie: bloodwork, radiographs, fecals etc.) without hospitalization and the third to treat empirically for common causes and monitor at home. The client immediately refused the hospitalization and diagnostics routes based on costs, she opted to monitor at home and provide medicine. The pet was sent home with the owner and died. Had we kept the pet in hospital, ran diagnostic testing and monitored we would have most likely been able to save the pet. Again we are sorry that the client chose to not do the diagnostic testing that would have allowed detection of the pending problem."

Billy at Valley Animal Hospital took my urgent call at 10:30 pm. He and the team were waiting for Malcolm and me when we arrived.  Dr. Morgan did a quick assessment and was able to provide information within minutes describing the extent of Malcolm?s injuries, a plan of action, and a cost estimate.

It was a long and anxious overnight as I awaited word on how Malcolm fared during surgery.  By 6:45 am, I was thoroughly updated by Dr. Morgan who then informed my regular vet at Valley, Dr. Warfield, what had happened.  Although Dr. Warfield doesn?t have patient hours on Thursday, he went in to see Malcolm and called me with his expert observations and advice.  I always follow his advice to the letter.  His wisdom and genuine concern for every animal has been consistently applied over the 9 years he has been my Vet.

Malcolm is home now and recovering.  He is regaining use of his left front foot and his multiple injuries are healing.

I can?t thank all the members of staff at Valley enough for the wonderful care, concern and expertise they provided during a very traumatic and difficult experience.  The peace of mind I had knowing Malcolm was at the best possible place to give him the best chance of a significant recovery is priceless.

I would like to thank specifically;  Billy (vet tech), Dr. Morgan (surgeon), Dr. Thibeault (surgeon), Dr. Arntzen, Christine and the rest of the front desk staff, Dr. Warfield?s techs and of course, Dr. Warfield.

I have two dogs and they had gotten into a fight and one required medical attention so I took her to my regular vet and they fixed her up and told me to call if I needed anything and set a follow up appointment for a week from our initial visit. A few days later I did have questions and concerns so I called my vet back and their office staff told me they were booked for the day. When I called my vet again the next day they told me the same thing and just to wait until my appointment later in the week. Needless to say I was not happy with them so I checked on here and and based on reviews decided to give them a call. I AM SO GLAD I CALLED as they were able to get me in the same day. Everybody was super nice and professional. The doctor was very informative and put my mind at ease. I had questions about the meds that my regular vet had prescribed and he discussed those with me and his concerns about what he would have given my dog and why. Come to find out the antibiotic that we got from our vet was good but did not have the ability knock out bacteria from a dog bite and explained to me how another antibiotic has the power to fight off a infection that could come from a dog bite. The antibiotic he spoke of I had used in the past on both my dogs and cats and had good results and was familiar with it. I asked if it would be ok to give that to my dog in addition to what we already have and he said it would be good idea. I was more than happy to pay for the antibiotic rather than have my dogs wounds become infected and costing me even more money in the end. As soon as my "wellness plan" is expired at my regular vet that I am tied into by contract I will absolutely be bringing all my animal care needs to Valley Animal Hospital and have told and will continue to tell everyone I know about how great this place is and suggest they give them a call.

The cat was seen promptly and the vet was thorough and professional and caring. They kept him overnight for observation.  My only complaint is with the support staff who filled out all new forms wrong (putting down that he was a female dog, not a male cat) and shredded his original medical records from the past, which I had asked to be returned.

My dog has finally started acting like she is actually old so I had a whole list of issues I wanted to talk about.  I spoke about the problems and each were addressed and talked over what we can do.  They have always shown the extra care of calling the next week when there is something serious going on so they can be on top of any issues.  I have a total of 5 pets I bring in.  I often recommend Valley Animal to anyone who is looking for a new vet.

I take my dog in for a shot every 34 days and I get a courtesy call me to remind me, it's a beautiful clean environment, staff are friendly, we get right in.  Stacy, Dr. Warfield's tech, is always professional and friendly -- spends time with my dog prior to his shot -- it goes in his leg muscle, not the most comfortable place, holds and hugs him and ends it with a treat!

Not well--they took the bird from us to examine, which stressed him horribly.  He was much worse when they returned him to us.  We had to have him euthanized the next day (by another vet).  It's possible he had an infection but they weren't interested in trying an antibiotic.  Both the vet and the tech were rather cold and clinical; we were very disappointed both in the skill of handling and attitude.  They wanted us to leave the bird with them but we could not do that as they were too cold and uncaring.  He'd been to another vet many times, and never reacted that way.

My dog became very sick and I assumed it was heat stroke. After a few hours she still wasn't improving so I called here to see if someone could see her (on a sunday night). They told me to bring here right in, which we did. The staff was very helpful and came out to carry her in. It took about an hour for the Vet ( Dr Hoffman) to get a diagnoises, pancreatitis. They were other problems, which we never got answers for, but she has now recovered fully. Dr Hoffman called me every morning and evening with her progress. The staff was very kind and friendly and allowed me to come visit my girl when ever I wanted and stay as long as needed. The front desk worked with me on a payment plan that allowed me to pay the bill off in a few months. I was very satisfied with Dr Hoffman and Valley animal clinic.
