We hired John and his crew because of the reviews, but mostly because when he came to give an estimate he noted all the potential problems with an older house with one obvious long crack in the existing tile and he discussed in detail the type of prep work that would be needed. He also was positive about installing long board wood look tile, despite the potential problems of leveling and prep work in an older home. His estimate was clear and specific; he noted where there could be increases if the prep work turned out to be more substantial (it was). John and his crew arrived promptly each day, worked long days, meticulously cleaned up each day. They began by helping us move heavier furniture, and then started in, taping off rooms where the flooring wasn't being demolished. They cleaned up the rubble from the old floor each day, and tried to make the house as livable as possible during both the prep work and the actual installation. They were unfailingly cheerful and helpful--keeping the refrigerator functioning, reinstalling the washer/dryer and only removing it when they needed to do that area. The tiling was exemplary. These long tiles are difficult to install, and they ended up using a time consuming leveling system that resulted in perfect floors. They carefully chose the tiles from among the varied pattern so the same boards were not near each other. They tiled difficult stairs, and the transition from a front entry area to the new tile was well done. John tolerated my inability to choose a grout color, only gently suggesting what he thought were good choices. The grout turned out to be a perfect choice; John also installed caulk in certain areas to give the tile the ability to flex, and where there were transitions in foundation. A small part of the project was the tiling of a raised hearth, which turned out as perfectly as the floor. The floor itself is absolutely gorgeous and worth the month of time it took. I appreciate the fact that John and crew didn't try to rush to finish, taking extra time at the end to make sure everything was finished in the best way possible.

Fantistic! John and Ed are very professional, precise, on time, and great at their work. The type of tile on the foor needs to be installed very professionally or it can be a big mess. The compliments we have had on their work are too numereous to say how many, most people think we have wood floors in the great room and dining room.

John Mourelatos did an absolutely AMAZING job in our master bath. The bath turned out beautifully. We were so happy with the results. He was punctual and very professional. We recommended his services to our friends, and he did a fabulous job with their kitchen tile. We are planning on using this company again in the very near future to tile the remainder of our home!

The job was beautifully done and he got it all done within 3 days (needing to let mortar board and sealer dry). John was very prompt and showed up when he said he would. The price seemed quite steep for such a small space, but due to the level of detail and accuracy, we were okay with it being a bit steep. This really wasn't something we were comfortable doing ourselves. He is very responsive to both phone and email as well as polite and professional while on site. He got the work done perfectly and efficiently, and for that we were very grateful!

John Mourelatos always showed up when he said he would, and did a very high-quality professional job.  There were other workmen involved for the plumbing and electrical work, and he interfaced and cooperated well with their scheduling needs.  He's more expensive than a lot of the many tile guys you can hire, but worth it if you really want the job done right.  (We turned down his bid on a previous job where we were not as fussy about perfection, and saved a lot of money to get a satisfactory result, but on this job we really wanted the best so decided to go with him.)

John is one of the most meticulous craftsman I've encountered. We met to discuss the job and he asked all the right questions and answered mine. I had envisioned a crew of workers, but John and Ed did most of the work themselves. This took a little longer, but I see that they can control the quality by working like this. They were always on time, they let me know what to expect each step of the way. Their work was and quot;practically perfect in every way.and quot; I get complements on the tile all the time.
I would absolutely recommend John, and I would use him again.

I cannot say enough about the quality of services provided by John and Ed. From the moment John came into our house we knew that we wanted him to be the guy that installed tile for home. His manners and attention to detail immediately made us feel comfortable about what he would be doing in the future. We were able to work through some of the details so that we would be able to better fit within the budget we had allocated for the project.
Once they started the work, I was impressed by the quality of workmanship, and the little details that John and Ed payed attention to throughout their job. They took the grinder down to the concrete to make sure surface was clean and ready for bonding. They rolled down isolation membrane on every potential crack in the subfloor (which almost ended up being the entire floor). They cut and layed out every tile, even making tapered cuts to almost exactly match the pattern in some of the door moulding. They backbuttered every tile to ensure there would be no voids when setting the tiles. I even caught John scraping every grout joint with a utility knife to pull out any thinset excess to ensure he'd have perfect grout lines when he was done (and if you take a look at the pictures, they are perfect). I was happy to work with someone who was as OCD about home projects as I would have been.
We are so pleased with the transformation of our home, and would call them back in a heartbeat if we had work that needed to be done.

By the job description you can see my floors were a mess. Home built in 1976 had flooring issues in all areas. John and Ed did an amazing job with the 20x20 porcelain tile random brick pattern I chose. All issues addressed and corrected. When a jackhammer is being used inside the house there is going to be dust . They did an excellent job of prepping area with plastic, covering everything. Post construction clean up was minimal after they finished. They started the job on time, showed up every day at 7:30 working all day. John was very good at communicating progress reports and next steps. They were not the cheapest co ( interviewed 5 companies) but they were lower priced than large retail flooring companies in Tucson. John spent extra time contacting tile supply companies to find the best price on the Marazzi tile I selected. These guys are very busy because they do an excellent job. If your project can wait for their schedule to fit you in you won't be disappointed.

John and Ed are probably the best tile people in Tucson. They are very professional. They are very punctual. They have all their own supplies and equipment. Our cement foundation floor was covered in old black adhesive. It was also too uneven to lay these long, narrow tiles. John and Ed spent 3 days grinding the floor so that it would be level enough for these tiles. John and Ed also removed the old baseboard for us before they laid the tile. We wanted a full tile width next to the entry door, so John and Ed spent several hours measuring the room, spacing the tiles, so they would know how to cut the tiles on the far wall, which is where they needed to start. We have an older home, and the walls were not square. John and Ed handled this well, using the needed diagonal cuts along the long tiles so they would meet the wall. They then spent several days laying the tile. John and Ed first put enough thin set on the floor to accommodate about half a row. Then they back buttered the tile and laid it down for the first time. Then they picked up the tile, smoothed thin set on the tile, back buttered the tile again, and then carefully laid each tile down to accommodate a 1/8and quot; grout line. They also carefully removed any thin set that crept up between the tiles. They also used a razor the next day to shave away any thin set that still remained between the tiles. They randomly staggered the joints for us. The bedroom tile was slightly thicker than the adjoining bathroom tile. John handled the junction of the two tiles through the pocket door threshold beautifully. He cut a plank of Over White tile to conform the frame of the door, and set the tile so that it would be level with the bathroom tile. It looks great! We used Arizona Tile Over White series, which looks like pickled ash hardwood floors. (We do not use actual hardwood floors in our home here in Tucson because of the termites in the desert soil.) When our housekeeper first saw the new floor, she thought it was a hardwood floor, even after touching it. The tile looks great, but they have to be set properly. And this room looks like is has pickled ash hardwood flooring. Just incredibly beautiful and easy to maintain.
We also found a standard bullnose 4and quot;x24and quot; from DalTile that matched the Arizona tile almost perfectly. John ordered the tile for us, The day after the tile arrived, John and Ed came out with the tile. They laid all the SBN along the wall, so we could see how we wanted the grout lines. Then they prepared the wall for the tile. The wall had some plaster and wood glue still present from the old wood baseboard that had been removed. Ed then laid the baseboard tile.
John and Ed waited at least a day after laying the tile to grout the tile. And then another day to seal the grout. John and Ed also use caulking instead of grout along any joints that need to be flexible.
They damp cleaned the floor any time they needed a clean surface throughout the project.
There's a lot of chatter on the internet about how to lay porcelain tile over a cement foundation. We are so glad we had this professionally done. Our floor looks truly amazing.
John Mourelatos has been laying tile for us since very early on, before 2005 at least. Here in Arizona an excellent tile person is an absolute requirement for home remodeling and renovation. John has contributed to restoring our older home, making it sparkle, and we are deeply grateful for his expertise. John and Ed are also both very personable. If you go into Arizona tile, sometimes some of their sample tile layouts are done by John.

I have been a customer of John's for approximately 9 years. John and Ed initially did a small bathroom in
Travertine tile for us. I was immediately impressed by their professionalism, cleanliness and most of all the
finished product. I have had them perform 3 total jobs in our home, and they were/are always a pleasure to
have in our home. Their work is outstanding and if a need arises for them to return for maintenance they
are responsive and prompt. I highly recommend Mourelatos tile! A+++++!!!!!

The entire job went beautifully. If all our home remodeling projects went this well, I would be in remodeling heaven.
First John came out for his estimate. Then he came out briefly to prepare the surface. Some thinset/grout was still on the concrete base, and John cleaned and sanded down this base. Then John came out today and laid the tile. I was so impressed by how efficiently John worked. Also, at how carefully he measured and cut the tile. Also, we asked John to lift the wood trim of the entry door, rather than tile around it, and John did this for us. He also suggested a stainless steel rail from Schluter between the carport stamped concrete and this entryway tile, and this rail looks great and will protect the edge of the tile. The Arizona Tile NuTravertine has a different design on each tile. And they look fabulous. This small area of tile means more to me than my entire great room! It really complements the new entry door.
John is very professional, shows up on time, works efficiently the entire time. John laid our kitchen backsplash for us back in 2004 and tiled our large pantry in 2010. Over these years John has built up his business to be very popular with commercial, as well as residential folks here in Tucson. Given the quality of his work for us, we are not surprised and count ourselves very lucky to get him for such a small job this time. We showed John our next projects, and will schedule these projects around John's very booked schedule. He is worth it.

This is actually the second job John and Ed have done for us. The first was a bathroom and the second was a kitchen/pantry laundry room/bathroom combination. As a very picky customer I was immensely impressed with his attention to detail, neatness, creativity and work ethic. John actually offerred several changes and tips to our vision of the tile project that changed the overall look of the job immensely. On the second job they had to repair and prepare the wood subfloor for the tile. To make sure the quality of the installation would hold, they drilled and screwed each plank of the subfloor before adding the Vitra, cement and tile. They even checked with the manufacturer to make sure what they were doing would insure the Vitra's warranty. I guess the best testament is that we are looking to do a couple more jobs with him and have referred him to several others. He is also on Az Tiles's preferred installation list.

Neat, clean and punctual with excellent communications and perfectly execution. He should give lessons to other contractors. (We did not become aware of this contract through Angie's list but did check it to see if it referenced his name.) In sum, from beginning to end, he and Ed met the three components of trustworthiness - i.e, integrity, competence and commitment.

John and his co-worker Ed did an excellent job for us. We are so pleased with the results. The lines were perfectly straight and the tile level --- now whenever I see someone else's tile, I compare it to the work John did in our house (and there is no comparison --- his work was flawless). He was also honest with his advice - we started out wanting to use wood-look tile, which he said he could do but would likely cause more delay and expense since the floor would need to be perfectly level, requiring most likely concrete grinding to make it work -- we opted instead for 18x18 porcelain tile and now are so happy we took his advice. Most punctual contractors we have ever worked with and - an important plus for me, both John and Ed are non-smokers. And they were both very patient with my multitude of questions. If you want your tile installed professionally, then this is the company you want to use.

I had my whole master bathroom remodeled. As a graphic designer I designed how I wanted my new bathroom to look like. As the saying goes "you don't know what you don't know" and I came across a lot of areas where my design would not work in the tile real world. For example: there were certain zone codes that said my shower door had to be a certain amount away from the toilet. I have a small bathroom and was trying to utilize all my space. John was always very honest and told me what would or would not work. Even in areas where my design would work, he would tell me what could possibly go wrong down the road. He did not cut corners for the sake of making the job easier. He listened to my thoughts, even though I am sure I drove him nuts with my design ideas. The whole time on the job he was prompt and clean (to the best of his ability) and worked efficiently. I bought enough of the same style of tile to have him do my main bathroom and my laundry room at a later time since he was already booked up after my master bathroom was finished. Yes, I would hire him again and already have him booked for November. Please see Website...Mourelatos Tile for pictures.
