One of the best decisions my wife and I made when buying our first home was hiring Inspector Joe to do the inspection for us. Joe's professionalism was evident from the time of my initial phone call to inquire about scheduling, and he conducted a rigorous inspection that was clearly informed by substantial expertise. Although the home had been well cared for, he identified and documented a number of issues that needed to be addressed, including some potentially serious safety hazards. He sent us his report promptly, and like the inspection itself, it was both thorough and authoritative. Detailed, impeccably organized, and copiously illustrated with clear photographs, it definitely aided our broker in her negotiations with the seller, helping her to secure a significant reduction in price; it continues to serve as a valuable guide to our home as we plan repairs and maintenance. (Speaking of our broker, I should mention that she had recommended a different company for the inspection, but was so impressed with Inspector Joe's work that she immediately hired him for another job.) Beyond his mastery of the technical aspects of home inspection, Joe has a number of other qualities that make him truly outstanding. Above all, he is an unusually gifted communicator. Joe encourages the homebuyer to accompany him throughout the inspection and use the opportunity to learn about the home, and I'm very glad I did so. His explanations were concise and easy to follow, and although he knows a great deal, he wears his knowledge lightly and has a real knack for teaching without being pedantic; my wife and I had a lot of basic questions, and he answered them all without a trace of condescension. He's also an affable guy with a fine sense of humor, which made the whole process not only educational, but downright enjoyable. Additionally, Joe is unfailingly courteous and remarkably generous with his time. My wife and I asked him numerous questions by phone and email before the inspection, and he answered all of them promptly and cheerfully. He also encouraged us to continue to contact him with any questions we might have after he delivered his report. We have happily taken advantage of this on several occasions, and he has supplied us with a wealth of information that has been quite helpful. We are so glad to have found Inspector Joe, and I recommend him without reservation to anyone who is looking for a home inspector.
