"[Member Name Removed], It is unfortunate you decided to purchase a new dwelling in lieu of taking this project into construction. You were a highly energetic client who had an ambitious project of building a 2nd story on your single-story garage. I was truly blindsided after receiving your one-star review on Houzz. & immediately called you only to find out that you purchased a new house & planned to abandon your project due to schedule & what I’ll also assume was a high construction cost. Complicated projects take time & effort of myself and my consulting engineers. I am sorry you feel we did not perform in an efficient manner to meet your expectation. In the future I will work with my clients to better understand their schedules & meet their schedules or better inform them of a more realistic expectation. As your architect I design, specify, & document your project. As much as I would like to, I have little or no control over the schedules of bidding & construction costs. My gut reaction tells me your bidding process & the price of construction also contributed to your cancellation of the project. It is unfortunate your project didn’t turn out as either of us expected. We phase our contracts so that one pays for the phase completed, or percent completed to date up until the fixed fee amount. We billed per our contract & only up to the bidding document phase. If you feel we billed you in error I would like correct such a mistake. We believe your account was made whole when we returned the remainder of your retainer. In the end, we provided you the design for the addition you wanted, & you chose not to proceed. As with all our clients, we do our best to meet goals & expectations, & felt we took steps to provide a design that utilized economical building materials & techniques for a project of your size, scope, & location. We enjoyed working with you in designing your home addition, & would have loved to see this project through fruition. We wish you the best in your future endeavors."
As we started the design process for an upgrade and remodel of our home, we were a little unsure of what the design goal was. Jake was extremely patient with our indecisions and his perceptions helped to focus our needs. We never felt pressured to speed through the process until clear cut decisions had been made. Small changes and after thoughts were handled in an expedient manner. Jake is very professional and extremely knowledgeable of all building styles and comfortable working with old southwestern style homes. We are quite pleased with the quality of his architectural work.
