The main problem was many, many hairs (several workers worked on the floors with nothing covering their long hair) embedded all over the house in the coating. The hairs were absolutely NOT there before this job was done and were extremely obvious at first glance.
Also, after the first day on the job the workers left before we returned home and no note was left on the door warning us the floor was wet or telling us what time they had left. (We had been told we could walk on it with socks shortly after it dried.) Since we had no idea when the workers had left, we took off our shoes and entered, only to find the floor was quite wet. We immediately went outside and waiting awhile until it was drier, but better communication would have been welcome.
After the job was completed the second day, when I called Kim to tell her about all the hairs, instead of apologizing and offering to come back and see what could be done, her attitude was outrageous. She was incredulous and first said it was something that would go away in time. (It's a year later and the hairs are still there.) She then returned about a week and a half later and did a very messy job on the powder room floor removing the hairs there. She was resentful about the complaint, although she clearly admitted many hairs were embedded around the house. She actually suggested they "might have been" there before the job was done. (Forgetting, I suppose, that the job including cleaning as well as sealing the floors.)
After listening politely throughout the time she was in our home to many of Kim's excuses why she was late (dropped her cell phone in the water when boating, etc.) and hearing her disparage and gossip about other customers, I was told in the end that I had been rude to her! My husband and I could not believe her lack of professionalism. We would recommend not using this company unless you believe the customer is always wrong!
"I sold flooring for a national distributor for many years and started stain sealing and Saltillo refinishing on weekends 20 years ago for fun and extra money. I realized I loved the transformation I could make in people’s homes and I really enjoyed the work so I started the Grout Connection full time. My daughter and a good friend of mine work for me, periodically we need additional help, but usually it’s the three of us. The girls have a dance for me, remember the old YMCA dance? Well they do an OCD dance in my honor, one time a customer joined them. I really take pride in my work and I want my customers to be thrilled with the final product and the cost. Yes, we were 14 minutes late to [Member Name Removed] home on the first day, my husband jumped into the lake with my I phone in his pocket the day before, Melinda’s cell number was in my phone and I could not retrieve it, I called her home number but no one answered. I apologized repeatedly for our tardiness, but [Member Name Removed] was furious. I re coated this house for the previous owner, a lovely woman who told me 3 weeks after the job was completed she was convinced her home sold so quickly due to our work. She gave my number to [Member Name Removed] when she damaged her office floor, I repaired and resealed her office, and also for no additional charge touched up a bathroom that had some wear in 2013. In 2014 [Member Name Removed] had me out to give her an estimate to re coat her floors I did point out some damage and some hairs. [Member Name Removed] was not concerned and asked me to do the best I could. We did, and we did additional repairs at no additional charge. The first day when they were leaving for a few hours I said “no foot traffic until after 5 PM and socks only.” At 3:25 PM [Member Name Removed] called me from her house phone and said they walked in and their socks stuck to the floor. I apologized for not leaving a note, but thought our communications prior were clear. The next day we worked for over 2 hours removing sock marks and hairs/threads in the sealer from where they had walked all over the wet floor. I did not take a deposit prior to the job, I told [Member Name Removed] pay us when we complete the job and when you’re happy with the work. She paid us when we completed the work, she seemed very happy and then she started sending me horribly rude emails. She also called yelling at me on the phone, we returned three times attempting to correct the things that she found unacceptable. The last time we went to her home she showed us three hairs, I removed them and asked her to look to be sure that she was content with the entire floor, she would not get up from her computer to look around, and she told me she was sure it was fine. My daughter and I have very long hair that I assure you we wear up and generally in ball caps. We don’t want to get hair on the floor and honestly we don’t want to get cleaner and sealer in our hair. I have NEVER worked on Saltillo without my hair pulled back/up. The job was very stressful and I normally love working on floors. At one point we had Mr. [Member Name Removed] on one side of us and [Member Name Removed] on the other when he discovered she has been reading his personal emails, he was furious! There was no gossip about customers; we did not interact with [Member Name Removed] especially after her repeated negative racial comments towards my friend who works for me! This was a horrible experience, but I still wanted the customer to be happy with our work! I thought [Member Name Removed] was finally happy with our work, until I read this review that she posted over a year after the job was completed!?! We love doing work for Angie’s list customers and my hope is that this inaccurate account does not sway you from considering our company!"
Kim came to the house and explained what she would be able to do to give us a new looking floor. We picked a new grout color and Kim very graciously re-arranged her schedule to accommodate the work before we have out of town guests.
The work took about 6 hours to complete and we couldn't be happier. The floors look brand new. The grout looks perfect.
I highly recommend Kim and the Grout Connection.

"Thanks {member's name removed} we enjoyed working with you and your wife!"
