On Friday at 8 am, I got a call from the Culligan office manager letting me know that the installer was on his way. I told the manager that I would not be available until noon, and that this should have been specified in the work order. The manager said that he had no such instructions, and briefly argued that the installer would now have to and quot;sit around for four hours.and quot; I told him that was not my problem.
At noon, the installer arrived. I asked him if he had any special instructions on his work order. He said he had none. I explained how I wanted the pool fill line bypassed. If I had not been home, the installation would have not been done the way I wanted it.
The installer finished and left. My first use of water was to flush a toilet. The toilet refilled with barely a trickle, and dark water entered the tank. I called Culligan. To their credit, they sent out another plumber even though it was late Friday afternoon. The plumber seemed familiar with the problem. He told me that the installer should have flushed the line before leaving. In other words, grit from all the cutting and welding had gotten into the line and clogged the screen inside my toilet fill valve. Instead of cleaning the valve (a brand new valve on a high-end toilet), he replaced the valve with a cheap item from his truck. He told me that the Toto valves were hard to take apart and clean.
One more thing. When Al (the salesman) was at my house, I asked him if Culligan's installers were licensed plumbers. He told me and quot;all our plumbers are licensed, bonded, and insured.and quot; When my installer arrived, I asked him if he was a licensed plumber. He told me that he was and quot;licensed by Culligan.and quot;
My opinion of Culligan so far: Great sales, poor execution.
